Methods and systems for the manufacture of layered three-dimensional forms

New methods and systems for manufacturing a three-dimensional form, comprising steps of providing a plurality of particulates; contacting the particulates with an activation agent; contacting particulates having the activation agent with a binder material that is activatable by the activation agent; at least partially hardening the binder for forming a layer of the three-dimensional form; and repeating these steps to form the remainder of the three-dimensional form. Following sequential application of all required layers and binder material to make the form, the unbound particles are appropriately removed (and optionally re-used), to result in the desired three-dimensional form. The invention also contemplates a novel method for preparing a form, where unbound particulates free of binder material are re-claimed.

Signal transmission apparatus and interconnection structure

Apparatus for transmitting a digital signal within, for example, an integrated circuit includes a signal transmission line with a directional coupler at one or both ends. The directional coupler blocks the direct-current component of the digital signal while transmitting the alternating-current component, including enough higher harmonics to transmit a well-defined pulse waveform. A suitable directional coupler consists of two adjacent line pairs in materials with different dielectric constants. The apparatus may also include a driver of the inverter type, a receiver of the differential amplifier type, a terminating resistor, and a power-ground transmission line pair for supplying power to the driver. An all-metallic transmission-line structure is preferably maintained from the output interconnections in the driver to the input interconnections in the receiver.

Systems and methods for dynamic bandwidth management on a per subscriber basis in a communications network

A subscriber bandwidth management process and device that allows users / subscribers in a communications network to dynamically alter bandwidth limits independently in both the uplink and downlink data transmission paths. This is accomplished by providing for a single queue in the uplink transmission path and a single queue in the downlink transmission path. Thus, the user / subscriber can efficiently manage their network access according to the specific activity on the network. The network manager benefits from being able structure bandwidth allocation on a per subscriber basis so that overall data transmission is made more efficient. In addition, the bandwidth manager provides active management of the delivery of data (also known as and referred to herein as traffic shaping) to increase throughput from a gateway device onto the network.

Memory allocator for multithread environment

Memory allocator combines private (per thread) sets of fixed-size free blocks lists, a global, common for all threads, set of fixed-sized free block lists, and a general-purpose external coalescing allocator. Blocks of size bigger than the maximal fixed size are managed directly by the external allocator. The lengths of fixed-size lists are changed dynamically in accordance with the allocation and disallocation workload. A service thread performs updates of all the lists and collects memory associated with terminated user threads. A mutex-free serialization method, utilizing thread suspension, is used in the process.

Method and Apparatus for Access Point Selection in Wireless LAN

A method and an apparatus select an access point (AP) in a wireless LAN to associate or reassociate, based on considerations that take into account the quality-of-service (QoS) status of the stations (STAs) and the potential hidden terminal effect. The method utilizes advertised or requested information obtained from an AP which includes the QoS status in each basic service set (BSS) and estimates the potential hidden terminal (HT) effect based on local channel sensing by the STA. The method selects the AP in a manner that reduces the possibility of collision from equal and higher priority HTs, thus providing greater transmission throughput and improving performance.

Interface circuit

A variable delay line receives and delays a data strobe signal transferred from a data source side in synchronization with a transfer data by a predetermined period, and produces a delayed data strobe signal and the non-delayed data strobe signal to a detector. The detector determines that a preamble period ends and effective data is transferred, when the delayed data strobe signal is at the L level at the time of rising of the non-delayed data strobe signal from the L level to the H level. According to a result of detection, an interface circuit unit takes in the transfer data and initializes a take-in address. The data strobe signal changes to a high-impedance state when a postamble ends. An influence of a glitch noise is avoided upon this change of the data strobe signal, and the data transfer can be executed fast and accurately.

Robust mode staggercasting storing content

A method and apparatus for storing staggercasted content includes encoding a set of signals representing content. The set of signals is capable of being decoded to produce a corresponding set of decoded signals, each decoded signal having a quality different from the qualities of the decoded signals corresponding to the other encoded signals. A composite signal comprising the set of encoded signals, staggered in time, is generated. The set of encoded signals is extracted from the composite signal. Errors in the set of extracted encoded signals are detected to produce a subset of available extracted encoded signals which are not erroneous. A content representative signal at a selectable desired quality is decoded. The decoded content representative signal is then stored in a storage device.

Method for OFDM and ofdma channel estimation

This invention discloses a method for OFDM and OFDMA channel estimation via phase-rotated polynomial interpolation and extrapolation (inter / extra-polation). For complexity reason, polynomial inter / extra-polation is an often considered method for channel estimation in orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) and orthogonal frequency-division multiple access (OFDMA) systems, in which the simplest choice is linear inter / extra-polation. But the performance of this method depends on the accuracy of symbol timing estimation as well as the channel delay spread. The invention mitigates the problem by adding a linear phase factor to polynomial inter / extra-polation, which corresponds to adding a delay (also called delay shift) in the time domain.

Controlling an alarm in a medical instrument

The invention concerns a method for controlling an alarm in a medical instrument or system, the medical instrument or system detecting at least one physiological parameter of the patient. The present value of the physiological parameter is consecutively detected and an alarm delay is determined as a function of at least one detected value of the physiological parameter wherein the function yields a shorter alarm delay for increasing values of the deviation from a normal value and a longer alarm delay for decreasing values of the deviation from the normal value. Further, the duration the value of the physiological parameter exceeds or under-runs at least one predefined threshold for the physiological parameter defining an upper or lower limit for a normal range of the physiological parameter, respectively, is measured and the alarm is generated when the duration the determined value of the physiological parameter exceeds or under-runs the predefined threshold exceeds the alarm delay. This method allows for the avoidance of nuisance alarms while still indicating severe conditions of the monitored patient reliably.

Performing Remote Loads and Stores over Networks

A network adaptor which performs CPU loads and stores to remote memory over network fabrics. The network adaptor receives a transfer request from a compute node and converts the request to a remote transfer request, which is transmitted to the network. The network adaptor then monitors the network connection for a remote completion response. When the network adaptor receives the remote completion response within a specific time period, the network adaptor transmits a first completion response to the compute node. If the network adaptor does not receive the remote completion response within the specific time period, the network adaptor transmits an “early completion response” to the compute node. The network adaptor continues to monitor for the actual response. This allows the compute node to continue processing without having to wait for the actual response to be received. The method handles small payloads efficiently and also accounts for long completion delays.
