Polymer-wrapped single wall carbon nanotubes

The present invention relates to new compositions of matter and articles of manufacture comprising SWNTs as nanometer scale conducting rods dispersed in an electrically-insulating matrix. These compositions of matter have novel and useful electrical, mechanical, and chemical properties including applications in antennas, electromagnetic and electro-optic devices, and high-toughness materials. Other compositions of matter and articles of manufacture are disclosed, including polymer-coated and polymer wrapped single-wall nanotubes (SWNTs), small ropes of polymer-coated and polymer-wrapped SWNTs and materials comprising same. This composition provides one embodiment of the SWNT conducting-rod composite mentioned above, and also enables creation of high-concentration suspensions of SWNTs and compatibilization of SWNTs with polymeric matrices in composite materials. This solubilization and compatibilization, in turn, enables chemical manipulation of SWNT and production of composite fibers, films, and solids comprising SWNTs.

Implantable medical lead having multiple, jointly insulated electrical conductors

An implantable lead for transmitting electrical signals between a proximal end and a distal end comprises an elongated lead body defining a longitudinally-extending lumen, and a plurality of individual electrical conductors contained in the lumen of the lead body and extending between the proximal and distal ends, the plurality of individual conductors sharing a common insulating coating. Each of the plurality of individual electrical conductors preferably comprises a braided, multifilar cable conductor. In one embodiment, the common insulating coating electrically isolates the plurality of conductors from each other, and may include a bridging portion extending between individual conductors.
The plurality of electrical conductors and the common insulating coating comprise a conductor assembly that may have a helical configuration defining a longitudinally-extending passageway for receiving a stylet, guide wire, or the like, for placement of the distal end of the lead. Alternatively, the conductor assembly may have a tubular configuration, the plurality of individual conductors being embedded therein in spaced-apart, parallel relationship or along a generally helical path along the length of the lead body for greater lead flexibility.

The disclosure relates to the process of enhanced recovery from injury or body fatigue due to strenuous activity or strenuous conditions using a contemplated apparatus. Generally the apparatuses disclosed utilize two or more physiological properties and / or body interfaces selected from 1) thermoregulation enhancer via cooling or heating sources; 2) blood flow viscosity enhancer via electromagnetic forces; 3) a circulatory pull by creating a negative pressure or vacuum environment which draws more blood to the treatment area; 4) muscle release apparatus via pressure point applicators and / or electric stimulation devices, which enhance the bodies natural abilities to recover from stress, fatigue or injury; and 5) a fatigue stimulator may be utilized to accelerate the amount of inflammation, stress, and / or fatigue applied to an area of the body via a restrictive cuff which prevent the body from constantly experiencing enhanced recovery techniques and depriving the body of natural adaptation.

Cooling apparatus, cooled electronic module and methods of fabrication thereof employing an integrated coolant inlet and outlet manifold

A cooling apparatus and method of fabrication are provided for facilitating removal of heat from a heat generating electronic device. The cooling apparatus includes an integrated coolant inlet and outlet manifold having a plurality of inlet orifices for injecting coolant onto a surface to be cooled, and a plurality of outlet openings for exhausting coolant after impinging on the surface to be cooled. The inlet orifices and the outlet openings are interspersed in a common surface of the integrated manifold. A plurality of exit openings are also provided on at least one edge surface of the manifold. These exit openings are in fluid communication through the manifold with the outlet openings to facilitate exhausting of coolant through the outlet openings and minimize pressure drop through the manifold. At least one surface plane projection of the at least one edge surface intersects a surface plane projection of the common surface.
