Zinc salt compositions for the prevention of dermal and mucosal irritation

The addition of low concentrations of combinations of water-soluble organic salts of zinc to gels, creams, lotions or ointments can increase the ability of these products to reduce or prevent exogenous irritants from causing irritation of the underlying substrate. The addition of low concentrations of combinations of water-soluble organic zinc salts to these gels, creams, lotions or ointments also can reduce the irritation of skin or mucous membranes caused by the addition of potentially-irritating substances such as spermicides, microbicides, fungicides or other therapeutic agents to the gel, cream, lotion or ointment. The advantages of this anti-irritant approach over others, which generally employ high concentrations of single zinc salts, are the reduced potential for zinc toxicity, the reduced potential for toxicity related to zinc itself, and the preservation of the desirable biological properties of potentially-irritating therapeutic substances added to the gel, cream, lotion or ointment.

The invention provides a novel microbicide anhydride modified anti-SEVI (semen-derived enhancer of viral infection) polyclonal antibody for preventing HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) sexual transmission. The novel microbicide anhydride modified anti-SEVI polyclonal antibody comprises an anti-SEVI polyclonal antibody, wherein the anti-SEVI polyclonal antibody can be used for immunizing rabbit or other tested animals by a conventional method by synthesizing a polypeptide fragment PAP248-286 of SEVI, antiserum of anti-SEVI is collected, and IgG (immunoglobulin G) of the antibody is purified to obtain the polyclonal antibody. The anhydride modified anti-SEVI polyclonal antibody is obtained by performing anhydride modification on the antibody. The anhydride modified anti-SEVI polyclonal antibody has excellent anti-virus activity to HIV-1 pseudovirion strain, zoo virus strain and anti-HIV medicinal HIV-1 drug-resistance strain, and the anhydride modified anti-SEVI polyclonal antibody can specifically bind SEVI, so that the reinforcing effect of the SEVI in seminal fluid to HIV infection can be blocked. The antibody has the beneficial effects that a dual-functional HIV sexual transmission preventing candidate microbicide can be used for resisting the strengthening capability of SEVI to HIV infection and has high-effective HIV activity.

Microbilogical and environmental control in poultry processing

Poultry carcasses are contacted with water treated with one or more specified dihalodialkylhydantoin biocides in a processing operation downstream from a scalding tank. The aqueous effluent from that downstream operation or from any location further downstream is recycled to the scalding tank. Surprisingly, the bromine residues from the dihalodialkylhydantoin biocides are much more thermally unstable than, for example, the commonly used microbiocide, sodium hypochlorite. Thus, the effluent from the scalding tank has its active bromine content significantly reduced before it is sent to a water purification facility wherein microbial action is used to reduce the BOD of the waste water before its release to the environment. Thus, injury to this desired microbial action is reduced. In addition, the recycle reduces water consumption in the overall poultry processing operation.

Application of salvianolic acid B and analogues of salvianolic acid B in preparing anti-HPV-viral-infection medicine

The invention discloses application and salvianolic acid B and analogues of the salvianolic acid B in preparing anti-HPV-viral-infection medicine, and belongs to the field of biomedicine. The inventordiscovers that the salvianolic acid B and the analogues, such as myricetin and dihydromyricetin, of the salvianolic acid B for the first time through researches, the salvianolic acid b and the analogues of the salvianolic acid B have good anti-HPV-viral-infection activity and can effectively block adhering of HPV viruses to target cells, and then HPV viral infection is inhibited. Experiments prove that the salvianolic acid B and capsid protein of the viruses can be directly bound, and adhesion of antagonism viruses to the target cells achieves an anti-virus effect. The salvianolic acid B actsin the early stage that the viruses enter the cells, and can also act in the middle stage and the later stage that the viruses enter the cells. The effects are better than medicine only acting on theearly stage that the viruses enter the cells in the prior art. The salvianolic acid B is harmless to the human body in a concentration range where the salvianolic acid B can achieve the anti-virus function. It is very likely that the salvianolic acid B is developed into a novel microbicide for preventing and treating HPV and other sexually transmitted viral infection.
