56 results about "Statistical difference" patented technology

Statistical difference refers to significant differences between groups of objects or people. Scientists calculate this difference in order to determine whether the data from an experiment is reliable before drawing conclusions and publishing results. When studying the relationship between two variables, scientists use the chi-square calculation method.

The invention discloses a self-adaptive amplitude limiting method for reducing peak-to-average power ratio of an OFDM (orthogonal frequency division multiplexing) system. By researching the relationship of time domain signal variation and frequency domain signal variation in the amplitude limiting algorithm, and on the basis of probability distribution of time domain signal amplitude, the invention proposes a method of setting the amplitude limiting rate adopted in the amplitude limiting process according to the energy of statistical difference value signals exceeding a set threshold; and when the method is applied to the constraint amplitude limiting algorithm, the self-adaptive amplitude limiting of an OFDM symbol is realized, and the peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) of the OFDM system can be effectively lowered. As indicated in theoretical analysis and simulation, and compared with the constraint amplitude limiting algorithm with fixed amplitude limiting rate, the self-adaptive amplitude limiting method has better PAPR performance.

No-reference video quality evaluation method based on space-time domain natural scene statistics characteristics

Objective video quality evaluation is one of the important research points for QoE service in the further. The invention provides a video quality evaluation method based on no-reference natural scene statistics (NSS). Firstly, through analyzing a video sequence, corresponding statistical values of each pixel point and the adjacent point are calculated and space domain statistics characteristics of the video are thus obtained. A predication image of an n+1 frame is obtained according to a motion vector and in combination with a reference frame n, a motion residual image is obtained, and statistical distribution after DCT transformation is carried out on the residual image is observed. Values obtained in the former two steps are used for respectively calculating a mahalanobis distance between the space domain characteristics and the natural video characteristics and a mahalanobis distance between the time domain characteristics and the natural video characteristics so as to obtain statistical differences between a distorted video and the natural video, and the quality of a single-frame image is obtained when the time domain information and the space domain information are converged. Finally, a time domain aggregation strategy on the basis of visual hysteresis effects is adopted to obtain the objective quality of the final video sequence.

System and method for determining antibiotic effectiveness in respiratory diseased animals using ausculation analysis

A system and method are provided for diagnosis of animal respiratory diseases using auscultation techniques. Animal lung sounds are recorded and stored as digitized data. Algorithms are applied to the data producing an output indicative of the health of the animal. Another method determines effectiveness of antibiotics administered to animals based upon observed relationships between lung score categories obtained from auscultation. A comparison is made between sample populations of animals that receive different classifications of antibiotics, and this data is compared to lung score categories observed for each of the animals that received the antibiotics. A statistical analysis is conducted to confirm statistical differences in case fatality rates between lung score categories. Insignificant differences in mortality rates across a range of lung score categories indicates the particular antibiotic administered is not effective, whereas a reduced fatality rate associated with lower lung scores indicates a level of antibiotic effectiveness.
