Systems and methods for localizing and analyzing samples on a bio-sensor chip

InactiveUS20030012693A1Quickly and efficiently custom designRepeat usageSequential/parallel process reactionsSamplingElectricityMicro particles
Chips that include one or more particle manipulation mechanisms, or force transduction elements, provided at specific locations to manipulate and localize particles proximal the substrate surface. In one embodiment, individually addressable magnetic control mechanisms such as electric coils are provided at specific locations to create a magnetic field to attract magnetic particles, such a magnetic or magnetizable beads, to those specific locations. In another embodiment, electrostatic control mechanisms such as electrodes are provided to attract and manipulate electrically charged micro-particles. A location may include a crater or well formed in the substrate, or it may include an element on the surface of the substrate. In some embodiments, one or more sensors are located proximal specific locations, e.g. specific craters, so as to analyze specific conditions at each location. In other embodiments, multiple locations share one or more sensors.

Electrical or hybrid motor vehicle with thermal conditioning system upgrading low-level sources

A motor vehicle has a low exhaust heat engine (ME) for driving the driven wheels and a system for conditioning the air temperature of the passenger compartment (CAB). The conditioning system includes a reversible heat pump (PAC) which conditions in temperature respectively a distribution loop (DI) and an exhaust loop (RE) through which flows a coolant. The distribution loop (DI) is connected to an exchanger (H2) with the air entering the space compartment (CAB) and is connectable via an electromagnetic valve (EV1) to another exchanger (H1) with the air entering the passenger compartment (CAB). The exhaust loop (RE) is connected to an exchanger (F1) with the outside air. The exhaust loop being further connected to the engine (ME) for exchanging heat with the engine.

Perpendicular magnetic recording medium and magnetic storage apparatus using the same

A large-capacity magnetic storage apparatus is disclosed, capable of performing ultra-high density magnetic recording of 50 gigabits or more per 1 square inch. In a perpendicular magnetic recording medium having a non-magnetic intermediate layer and a magnetic recording layer sequentially formed, the non-magnetic intermediate layer is composed of a layer having a face-centered cubic structure and containing a non-magnetic elements excluding Pt. Specifically, the intermediate layer mainly contains at least one selected from the group of elements constituted of Al, Cu, Rh, Pd, Ag, Ir and Au, and is composed of a film having a face-centered cubic (f. c. c.) structure. The magnetic recording layer contains at least Co, Cr and Pt, and is composed of a film having a hexagonal close-packed (h. c. p.) structure. More preferably, a non-magnetic h. c. p. intermediate layer is provided between the non-magnetic intermediate layer and the magnetic recording layer.

Coextrusion Processes For Making Multilayer Films And Films Made Thereby

The invention relates to a blown film coextrusion process. The process involves extruding core contact layers through a die exit at a specified speed and cooling, orienting and crystallizing the multi-layer film formed at a specified deformation rate to form a the frost line is a specified distance from the die exit by withdrawing film at a take up speed. The core and core contact layers are of a film forming polymer composition comprising at least 90 wt % of ethylene based polymer. The ethylene based polymer of the core layer has an average density of ethylene based polymers equal to or higher than that of ethylene based polymer of the core contact layers. The invention specifically concerns the feature that the core layer composition contains a portion of and the composition of the core contact layers contains a portion of a linear polyethylene so as to make the core layer more resistant to deformation than the skin layers.

Background index bitmapping for faster query performance

A database engine and a system running a database engine utilize a dynamic bitmap updating routine to avoid the delay associated with building an entire bitmap. When running a query on a table, the database engine can build a bitmap over a column of the table that helps avoid unnecessary I / O operations to retrieve records. The database engine initializes the bitmap so that all elements have a value of “1”, or active, and proceeds to scan and retrieve the records of the table according to the bitmap using a first process. Any retrieved record is further analyzed to determine if it is part of the result set. Concurrently, a second process is initiated which continually updates the values within the bitmap according to a set of selection criteria. As the first process continues to operate, more and more elements of the bitmap are set to “0”, or inactive, so that the first process can avoid unnecessary I / O operations.
