Method of routing a short message and an apparatus for routing a short message

In a method of routing a short message with high or low priority from a service centre to a mobile station in a public land mobile network providing both packet data service and circuit switched service, a choice is made, in advance, as to whether the short meassage should be received by the mobile station either via a specific one of the services or via any of the services. Based upon said choice in step, the priority of the short message sent from the service centre, and an indication of whether the mobile station is reachable via one, both or none of the services, a route via one of the services, a route via both services or no route at all is selected. If a route via one of the services is selected, the short message is routed in accordance with the selected route. If a route via both services is selected, the route via the service having a higher preference than the other service is selected, and the short message is routed in accordance with the route via said service having the higher preference. If the routing of the short message to the mobile station is unsuccessful via the route via said service having the higher preference, the short message is routed in accordance with the route via said other service having lower preference.

Method and system for selecting a visited network to be used by a user equipment in a wireless communication system

Preference of a home public land mobile network (HPLMN) is applied when a roaming user equipment (UE) selects a visited public land mobile network (VPLMN). The roaming UE sends an available VPLMN list to the HPLMN. A control message of a non-access stratum (NAS) or an application can be used to receive a preferred VPLMN list from the HPLMN or to send the preferred VPLMN list after the HPLMN requests that the UE should send the available VPLMN list or without a request. The HPLMN manages a VPLMN to be used by the roaming UE and enables a user to receive a better service.

Method and apparatus for allowing user equipment to determine validity of system information before receiving the same in a network sharing system

A method and apparatus are provided for receiving system information during inter-cell movement of a user equipment (UE) in a network sharing (NS) system. The UE moves from a previous cell to a new cell. After the movement, the UE compares a public land mobile network (PLMN) identity indicating a PLMN to which the previous cell belongs, with a PLMN identity indicating a PLMN to which the new cell belongs. If the PLMN identity of the new cell is equal to the PLMN identity of the previous cell, the UE sets system information blocks that it has received and stored in the previous cell, as system information of the new cell. If the PLMN identity of the new cell is not equal to the PLMN identity of the previous cell, the UE receives system information blocks with ‘Area scopes Cell and PLMN’ from the new cell, considering that the system information for the previous cell will be invalid in the new cell.

Method for a communication device to search for an alternate network upon a registration failure

A method for a communication device to search for service from an alternate public land mobile network when a public land mobile network rejects a registration message from the communication device includes a first step of having the device roam to a visited public land mobile network (PLMN). A next step includes sending a registration message to the PLMN. A next step includes rejecting the registration message by the PLMN. This rejection can include ignoring the registration or sending an error message back to the device. A next step then includes searching for service from an alternate public land mobile network.

Network access processing method and user equipment

The invention provides a network access processing method and user equipment. The method includes that the user equipment (UE) accesses to a first visit public land mobile network (VPLMN) through a first access network and accesses to a second VPLMN through a second access network; the UE finds and selects strategies of a functional entity of an ANDSF (Access Network Discovery And Selection Function) and one of strategies of an ANDSF of a second VPLMN according to an access network of the first VPLMN to determine to initiate a data flow diversion operation; and the UE performs the data flow diversion operation according to the ANDSF strategies of the first VPLMN and the ANDSF strategies which is different from the ANDSF strategies used for determining the initiation of the data flow diversion operation in the ANDSF strategies of the second VPLMN. The network access processing method and the user equipment effectively ensure that the UE can cooperatively achieve the flow diversion operation of the data flow between 3GPP (the 3rd Generation Partnership Project) access networks and WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network) access networks of different VPLMNs according to different ANDSF strategies after receiving the ANDSF strategies sent by different VPLMNs in a roaming scenario, so that the utilization rate of network resources is improved and the network congestion is reduced.

Systems and methods for supporting control plane location in a fifth generation wireless network

Methods and techniques are described for supporting location services for a user equipment (UE) in a Fifth Generation wireless network using a Location Management Function (LMF) based control plane (CP) location solution. The LMF serves as the main anchor point for location support instead of an Access and Mobility Management Function (AMF). The LMF may be in either a serving Public Land Mobile Network (PLMN) for a UE or in a Home PLMN for a roaming UE. The LMF may obtain location information for a UE via an AMF from a Next Generation Radio Access Network or the UE and may interact with a Gateway Mobile Location Center to receive location requests from and return location information to an external client. The LMF solution may be more efficient and require less implementation than an AMF based CP location solution.
