Minimizing channel change time for IP video

Subscribers to Internet Protocol TV services usually complain about one key characteristic—the additional delay digital video introduces when subscribers change channels, especially when subscribers “channel surf.” The problem is traced to at least three sources of delay in a convention Internet Protocol video deployment system. The channel changing delay can be minimized by caching video packets for the most likely next channel in a buffer in anticipation of a television subscriber changing channels and / or by having an adaptable buffer length in the set top box.

Flat interface nerve electrode and a method for use

A flat interface nerve electrode is provided along with a method for its use. The electrode provides a plurality of conductive elements embedded in a non-conductive cuff structure, which acts to gently and non-evasively redefine the geometry of a nerve through the application of a force so as to apply pressure to a nerve in a defined range, namely from 2 to 40 mmHG and more preferably from 15 to 30 mmHG and most preferably from 15 mmHG to 20 MMHG. This range is selected to minimize the reduction of blood flow within the tissue, which preferably is at least 70% of the initial value, more preferably 90% of the initial value. The cuff has an opening, which is elongated relative to the diameter of the nerve to which it is applied. Preferably, the cuff is constructed from an elastic bio-compatible material having top and bottom beam members configured to define a nerve opening. The cuff is open at one side and has a connection at the other side which results in a spring force being applied through the surfaces of the nerve opening to the subject nerve. During implantation the open sides of the cuff are closed so as to capture the nerve in the cuff. As the nerve is reshaped, specific nerve axons become more easily addressed through the epineurium by the embedded conductive elements.

Method and system for classifying an integrated circuit for optical proximity correction

A method and system for performing optical proximity correction (OPC) on an integrated circuit (IC) chip design is disclosed. The system and method of the present invention includes dividing the IC chip into a plurality of local task regions, identifying congruent local task regions, classifying congruent local task regions into corresponding groups, and performing OPC for each group of congruent local task regions.By identifying and grouping congruent local task regions in the IC chip, according to the method and system disclosed herein, only one OPC procedure (e.g., evaluation and correction) needs to be performed per group of congruent local task regions. The amount of data to be evaluated and the number of corrections performed is greatly reduced because OPC is not performed on repetitive portions of the IC chip design, thereby resulting in significant savings in computing resources and time.

Method for managing security for card-type storage medium and a transaction apparatus therefor

In a card-type storage medium and transaction apparatus, when a transaction is started between the card-type storage medium and the transaction apparatus and a data file that is an object of an access from the transaction apparatus is determined, a unique identifier generating device of the card-type storage medium generates a unique identifier for this transaction. A unique identifier notifying device notifies the unique identifier to the transaction apparatus. Accordingly, it is possible to specify the transaction apparatus having access to the card-type storage medium by referring to that unique identifier.

Method and system for transferring information using metabase

A method and system for application-to-application data exchange provides data conversion from the format of a source application to the format of a target application upon receipt of data by the target application. To achieve compatibility among applications exchanging data, the preferred system uses a standard set of terms (metaterms residing in a metabase) and process names (residing in a process repository) for building metadata packets that inform both applications as to their respective data representation. A metadata packet includes a standard name (metaterm) and application specific data format, as well as an optional associated process name. Source metadata provided in connection with source application-specific data enables the conversion of the source format to the format compatible with the target. This method eliminates data conversion at the source application. This method assures that data conversion / translation is performed only once during an exchange event: that is, upon receipt at the target application.

Engine restart apparatus and method

The present invention relates to a start-stop “mild hybrid” vehicle with a starting system which utilizes traditional engine and transmission architecture. The present invention separates the pinion actuator solenoid from the starter motor power switching circuit. A power relay is provided to switch the starter motor. The pinion gear in the present invention is pre-shuttled to, and held in mesh with, the flywheel ring gear during engine stop conditions. A “prime current” is then applied to the power relay just below that which is required to energize the power relay. Upon request for an engine start, the current will increase to energize the relay and allow the starter motor to spin. A significant amount of time lag is thusly removed from the starting system permitting an expedient restart and launch. The pinion actuator solenoid in this invention may also have two coils which may be selectively energized.

Computer-implemented methods for generating input for a simulation program or generating a simulated image of a reticle

Various computer-implemented methods are provided. One computer-implemented method for generating input for a simulation program includes combining information about a defect detected on a partially fabricated reticle with information about phase assigned to an area of the reticle proximate to the defect. The phase is to be added to the reticle on a level other than a level on which the defect is formed. The defect is detected on the reticle prior to addition of the phase to the reticle. Another computer-implemented method includes generating a simulated image of a defect on a reticle using information about the defect generated by inspection of one level of the reticle in combination with information about a different level on the reticle.
