Helper-free, totally defective adenovirus for gene therapy

InactiveUS6228646B1Encapsidation efficiencyMaximal recombinationInactivation/attenuationNucleic acid vectorIn vivoHelper virus
A method for producing in vivo packaged recombinant adenovirus vectors is provided. The recombinant Ad vectors do not contain any Adenovirus genes and are therefore useful for gene therapy. The recombinant Adenovirus vectors are packaged in vivo using a helper virus which is itself very inefficiently packaged, providing a recombinant viral preparation with very little or no contamination with helper virus. In particular, the method makes use of a helper virus in which the packaging site can be easily excised in vivo by recombination mediated by a recombinase. The helper virus is also useful for the in vivo construction of new recombinant adenovirus vectors containing substitutions in the E1 or other adenoviral region.

Method and apparatus for high speed image acquisition

The invention provides methods and systems for forming and image from a stream of non-interleaved image date, e.g., a stream of non-contiguous rows of pixels. Such a system includes a memory, in which the image is to be formed (and stored), and a controller, for initiating memory transfers that move rows of pixels from the stream to their (the rows') respective locations in memory. The controller initiates those transfers such that (i) the rows of pixels are transferred to the memory in the order in which they are received from the stream, and (ii) each row of pixels is transferred directly to the location in memory corresponding to that row's respective position in the image.

Subtitle management method for digital video disk

A method of processing a caption for a digital video disk (DVD) includes loading a prepared caption script of a predetermined language in a caption indicator, showing a moving picture corresponding to the caption script and ascertaining the caption generation point and caption annihilation point of the shown moving picture, writing time codes corresponding to the caption generation point and the caption annihilation point and displaying a list of caption scripts and a list of time codes on the caption indicator, checking the state of the time codes and the state of a corresponding caption displayed, and correcting the state of the time codes and the state of the corresponding caption displayed, and correcting the state of the time codes and the state of the corresponding caption displayed if an error is detected, and producing the caption scripts and the time codes in a scrip file.

Electro-blotting devices, systems, and kits, and methods for their use

The invention provides a dry electroblotting system for dry blotting gels, in which the system includes an electroblotting transfer stack that comprises an analysis gel and a blotting membrane, an anode, a body of anodic gel matrix juxtaposed with the anode between the anode and the transfer stack, a cathode, and a body of cathodic gel matrix juxtaposed with the cathode between the cathode and the transfer stack, in which the anodic gel matrix and the cathodic gel matrix each comprise an ion source for electrophoretic transfer. The dry electroblotting system does not use any liquid buffers that are added to the system just before electroblotting (such as when the transfer stack is being assembled). The anode, the cathode, or both can be separate from a power supply and provided as part of a disposable electrode assembly that also includes a body of gel matrix that includes ions for electrophoretic transfer.

Stabilized A-beta protofibrillar aggregates

Described and claimed herein are methods for producing chemically stabilized Aβ protofibrillar aggregates, and compositions made therefrom. Compositions produced are useful in facilitating detailed studies of Aβ protofibril structure, fibril formation, and progression of Aβ related diseases, e.g., Alzheimers disease. In addition, chemically stabilized protofibrillar structures can be used as tools to generate and / or screen for antibodies specific for protofibrils. Antibodies specific for protofibrils can be used as diagnostic tools or as therapeutics in the diagnosis or treatment of, e.g., Alzheimer's disease. Finally, chemically stabilized protofibrillar structures can be used in the preparation of therapeutic or prophylactic vaccines.

Methods and devices for high throughput crystallization

Crystallization Photoresist (PR) apparatus and methods which allow for fast screening and determination of protein crystallization conditions with small protein quantities and rapid crystallization. The apparatus comprise a first region comprising a first nucleation catalyst material and a second region comprising a second nucleation catalyst material, with the first and second regions positioned adjacent to each other and configured to support at least one crystal, and with the first region having a variation in a nucleation property of the first nucleation catalyst material in the first region. The crystal may be supported at an interface of the adjacent regions. The methods comprise providing a first region of a first nucleation catalyst material and a second region of a second nucleation catalyst material adjacent said first region, with the first region having a variation in a nucleation property of the first nucleation catalyst material, exposing the first and second regions to a solution of a selected molecule, and growing at least one crystal of the molecule in association with the first and second regions.

Skin dressings containing oxidoreductase enzyme

A skin dressing comprises a first dressing component (16) carrying oxidoreductase enzyme in dried condition; and a second dressing component (18) carrying a source of water, such that when the first and second dressing components are placed in fluid communication with each other, water migrates from the second component towards the first comportent and acts to hydrate enzyme carried by the first component, at least at the surface of the first component. The dressing components are kept separate before use, e.g. being sealed in separate sterile, water-impervious packages such as laminated aluminium foil pouches. In use of the dressing, the second dressing component is located on the skin of a human or animal, e.g. over a wound to be treated or on a region of skin to be treated for cosmetic or therapeutic purposes such as for treatment of acne or other skin conditions. The first dressing component is placed on top of the second component in fluid communication therewith. In embodiments comprising only first and second dressing components, the first dressing component is placed in direct contact with the second dressing component. Water from the second component migrates towards the first comportent and acts to hydrate enzyme carried by the first component, at least at points of contact at the interface between the first and second components. Once hydrated, the oxidoreductase enzyme can immediately begin functioning in known manner with beneficial effects.

Communication System Communication Method, Contents Processing Device, and Computer Program

A communication system and so forth are provided by which registration or cancellation of a plurality of apparatus owned by a user can be executed efficiently. In the communication system, a content processing apparatus acquires a second source ID list of a content reproduction apparatus. If it is detected based on the second source ID list that the content reproduction apparatus is not yet registered in a management server and a recorder ID of the content processing apparatus is not yet registered in the second source ID list, the content processing apparatus recommends registration. If a registration instruction of the content reproduction apparatus is accepted, the content processing apparatus requests the management server to register the content reproduction apparatus. The content processing apparatus receives registration completion transmitted from the management server and adds a group ID stored in a first source ID list to the second source ID list of the content reproduction apparatus. If the registration instruction of the content reproduction apparatus into the management server is not accepted, then the content processing apparatus adds the recorder ID of the content processing apparatus to the second source ID list.
