Surgical stapling instrument with mechanical mechanism for limiting maximum tissue compression

Various forms of surgical instruments are disclosed. In various embodiments, the instrument includes a cartridge supporting assembly for operably supporting a staple cartridge therein. The cartridge supporting assembly may be responsive to firing and retraction motions applied thereto from a firing assembly. An anvil may be operably coupled to an anvil closure assembly. The anvil closure assembly may be constructed to selectively move the anvil in a proximal direction toward the cartridge supporting assembly to enable a portion of tissue to be clamped between a cartridge supported by the cartridge supporting assembly and the anvil under a predetermined amount of compression. The device may further include a compression limiting assembly that interacts with the anvil closure assembly to prevent further travel of the anvil in the proximal direction toward the cartridge supporting assembly when the predetermined amount of compression has been attained.

Methods for reducing distal embolization

InactiveUS7033344B2Reducing distal embolizationSufficient pressureBalloon catheterCannulasDistal embolizationLesion
A method for reducing distal embolization during insertion of devices to treat plaque, thrombi and other intravascular occlusions. Using a guide catheter, a guidewire is delivered to a site proximal to the lesion. An aspiration catheter is then introduced over the guidewire, and the two are moved together in a distal to proximal direction across the occlusion. The aspiration catheter is then moved in a proximal to distal direction while continuously aspirating, which prevents embolization of any particles which may be created during the crossing of the guidewire.

Automated warehousing and cargo loading system

A warehousing system for palletized cargo, and an automated loading / unloading system for use with the same. The warehousing system includes a feed conveyer and a plurality of storage racks. A traveling conveyor carries the cargo from the feed conveyor to the individual racks, and from the racks to a loading / unloading conveyor which carries the cargo to the loading / unloading docks. The traveling conveyor rides on a wheeled chassis that is guided between the receiving and discharge locations on tracks. The storage racks are stackable in tiers, and the traveling conveyor has a deck that raises and lowers to be level therewith. The automated loading / unloading dock includes a rigid, extensible plate having an upper surface for supporting a load of palletized cargo, with a drive mechanism being mounted to the inner end of the plate to translate it in and out of the transport vehicle. The plate carries a load of palletized cargo into or out of the transport vehicle en masse. For loading, restraining doors hold the loaded cargo within the interior of the vehicle as the extensible dock is withdrawn. When unloading, a paddle is deployed above the upper surface of the lock member and is translated towards its inner end so as to push the cargo onto the loading / unloading conveyor.

Nano-Titanium For Making Medical Implantable Hermetic Feedthrough Assemblies

Ferrules made of nano-titanium for incorporation into feedthrough filter capacitor assemblies are described. The feedthrough filter capacitor assemblies are particularly useful for incorporation into implantable medical devices such as cardiac pacemakers, cardioverter defibrillators, and the like, to decouple and shield internal electronic components of the medical device from undesirable electromagnetic interference (EMI) signals. Nano-titanium experiences significantly less grain growth after high temperature brazing in comparison to commercially pure (CP) titanium and the titanium alloy Ti-6Al-4V. For that reason, nano-titanium is an ideal material for use in implantable medical applications where high strength, structural integrity even after heating and corrosion resistance are desired.

Functionally graded coatings for lead wires in medical implantable hermetic feedthrough assemblies

A feedthrough filter capacitor assembly is described. The feedthrough filter capacitor assembly comprises an outer ferrule hermetically sealed to an insulator of a dielectric material seated within the ferrule. The insulative material is also hermetically sealed to at least one lead wire. Instead of being made of platinum or platinum / iridium, the lead wire comprises a core of a non-noble metal supporting a functionally graded coating. The metal core has an inner layer of the same the non-noble metal of the core and an outer layer of a noble metal. A gradient transition zone exists between the non-noble metal and the outer noble metal. Consequently, lead wires having all the beneficial attributes of platinum and platinum / iridium wire can be built into hermetic feedthroughs, but at a significantly reduced cost. In a preferred form, a filter capacitor is mounted on the insulator and electrically connected to the lead wires and to the ferrule to prevent unwanted EMI signals from traveling along the wires and entering the interior of the medical device.

Machine start controlling apparatus

An immobilizer ECU (20) compares an internally stored reference code with a key code transmitted from a key (10). An engine ECU (24) transmits a rolling code A when an engine speed reaches 500 rpm. The immobilizer ECU (20) transmits a rolling code B when the codes coincide with each other. The engine ECU (24) will stop an engine if it cannot receive the rolling code B within a prescribed period of time. Further, there is provided a counter CIMMOF which is incremented at the beginning of such a process. The counter CIMMOF is reset only when the process is normally completed. If an ignition is turned off prior to transmission and reception of the rolling codes, the counter CIMMOF will be counted up. According to a value of the counter CIMMOF, a period of waiting for the rolling code B is gradually shortened. Further, when the process is completed or a backup power supply to a backup memory (24d) is cut off, a time to transmit and receive the rolling codes is advanced. Thus, the situation where the engine will be able to start due to disconnection of a communication line or the like is prevented.

Another embodiment of the animal guard inhibits animal passage along generally horizontal structures, such as cables, lines and wires. A series of hollow rotatable spinners are provided with a hole formed at opposing longitudinal ends. The spinners are bifurcated into two generally equal halves that attach together to secure the spinners around a horizontal structure. End shields are configured with a hole extending laterally therethrough to mount the end shields onto an end section of the spinners; one end shield is positioned at each of the opposite ends of a series of spinners.
