Leak detection tape

An elongated, flexible, flat conductive tape can be applied to any surface to be monitored for water or other liquid leaks, and electrically connected to any suitable type of conventional electrically operated leak detector. A pair of parallel spaced conductors is disposed on one side of the tape that run longitudinally along the length thereof. The conductors are spaced from one another by a small distance to insure that only a small quantity of water or other conductive liquid is necessary to bridge the gap between the conductors, and create an electrical short circuit or substantial impedance reduction between the two. In addition, the conductors are preferably as flat as possible to insure that liquid can freely flow transversely across them without being impeded thereby. Both of these features insure that the detector tape can sense even very small quantities of liquid, thereby generating an early warning of a leak condition before extensive damage results. A liquid responsive visible indication is also provided on the tape to identify the location along the tape where water or other leaking liquid has come in contact therewith, and eliminates the need for using an expensive sensing device to locate the source of a leak.

System and method for identifying tissue using low-coherence interferometry

An apparatus for needle biopsy with real time tissue differentiation using one dimensional interferometric ranging imaging, comprising a biopsy device having a barrel and a needle, an optical fiber inserted in the needle, and a fiber optic imaging system connected to the optical fiber. The imaging system obtains images and compares the optical properties and patterns to a database of normalized tissue sample images to determine different tissue types. The physician performing the biopsy obtains feedback via a feedback unit associated with the biopsy device and which is connected to the imaging system. The feedback unit can provide visual, audible or vibratory feedback as to tissue type encountered when the needle is inserted toward the target tissue. The feedback unit can be programmed for different biopsy procedures so that the user can actuate a button to select a display or other feedback mechanism for the desired procedure and anticipated tissue to be encountered.

Method and apparatus for a rearrangeably non-blocking switching matrix

A switching apparatus is disclosed that employs a relatively simple and inexpensive switching matrix, but which avoids interruption of existing connections when connections are added or removed. The switching matrix switches errorlessly by controlling the point in time at which switching occurs. Using such a technique, switching can be performed without disturbing the connections already configured in the switching matrix, and so is referred to herein as being non-blocking. Optionally, the incoming data can be rearranged to provide a larger window of time in which the switching matrix can be switched. In the case of a switch using an optical backplane, this also allows more time for various components of the system (e.g., clock / data recovery units) to re-acquire lock. The switching apparatus includes a switching matrix and control circuitry. The switching matrix has a matrix input, a control input and a number of matrix outputs, and is configured to receive an information stream at the matrix input. The information stream includes a number of portions, while the control circuitry has a control output coupled to the control input. The control circuitry is configured to initially configure the switching matrix to output the information stream at a one of the matrix outputs and to subsequently configure the switching matrix to output the information stream at another of the matrix outputs during a period of time during which the one of the portions is transiting the switching matrix.

Apparatus and method for selectably treating a fallopian tube

The present invention is an apparatus and methods for selectably assessing a fallopian tube. The apparatus is a device that allows for treatment and / or the assessment of the patency of each fallopian tube independently by isolating at least one cornual regions from the uterine cavity. The method of the present invention is based on use of the device and allows for assessment of fallopian tube patency without the use of dyes of x-rays.

Method for recognition determination and localization of at least one arbitrary object or space

A method for recognition, determination and localization of at least one arbitrary object or space and the picking up of said object, by at least on robot, in particular, a service robot, which operates independently on the base surface. The method is achieved, whereby the robot is oriented within at least one room by room co-ordinates and / or co-ordinates of arbitrary objects in the room, transmitted to the robot by at least one sensor element, in particular, a transponder or transmitter.

An apparatus and method that is effective for the treatment of skin itch and skin rash is disclosed. The apparatus is contained within a body which can be easily manipulated with one hand, and which is powered by a self-contained battery. Also contained within the body is a heating means, controlled by a thermostat, a temperature selector if the heating means if intended to provide multiple temperatures, and means to warn the user when the desired temperature is reached. In addition the apparatus includes means to apply the heat in a cyclical manner, in which the heat is repeatedly applied and removed, with a cycle time and pulse width in which is controlled by user by means of a control located on the body heater and some other elements that can ensure only one substantially unique temperature is used. The method, which is related to the apparatus as its governing principle, includes the application of heat at a precise, controlled temperature, for a specific period of time, t the skin at the location of the itch or rash. The temperature used depends upon the nature of skin discomfort, but is generally inside the range between 46-62° C. The temperature variation is generally controlled within ±0.5° C. although it can be wider or narrower depends upon the nature of the itch treatment. In addition, the method includes a pulsating application of heat to the skin area, in which the heat is alternately applied and removed at a rate of approximately 1 second, with a total application time of between 10 and 30 seconds.

Triple gate and double gate finfets with different vertical dimension fins

ActiveUS20080128796A1Easily tuneOptimal designTransistorSolid-state devicesEngineeringDouble gate
A semiconductor structure and its method of fabrication include multiple finFETs with different vertical dimensions for the semiconductor fins. An implant species is implanted in a bottom portion of selected semiconductor fins on which reduced vertical dimension is desired. The bottom portion of the selected semiconductor fins with implant species is etched selective to the semiconductor material without the implanted species, i.e., the semiconductor material in the top portion of the semiconductor fin and other semiconductor fins without the implanted species. FinFETs with the full vertical dimension fins and a high on-current and finFETs with reduced vertical dimension fins with a low on-current thus results on the same semiconductor substrate. By adjusting the depth of the implant species, the vertical dimension of the semiconductor fins may be adjusted in selected finFETs.
