Semiconductor lighting device with reflective remote wavelength conversion

A semiconductor lighting device includes at least one semiconductor light emitter and at least one wavelength converting element, physically separated from the light emitter. At least one wavelength converting element has a reflective member underneath it, so that both primary light and converted light from the wavelength converting layer become a forward transferred light preventing from backscattering loss into the light emitter. The reflective member may be a thermal conductive element to effectively remove the heat from the wavelength converting element. Accordingly, the remote wavelength conversion on a reflective surface improves the thermal stability of the wavelength conversion material and prevents backscattering loss to produce a higher radiance result from the device.

A pump drive head for a progressing cavity pump comprises a top mounted stuffing box rotatably disposed around a compliantly mounted standpipe with a self or manually adjusting pressurization system for the stuffing box. To prevent rotary and vertical motion of the polish rod while servicing the stuffing box, a polished rod lock-out clamp is provided with the pump drive head integral with or adjacent to a blow-out-preventer which can be integrated with the pump drive head to save space and cost. A centrifugal backspin braking system located on the input shaft and actuated only in the backspin direction and a gear drive between the input shaft and output shaft are provided.

Ultraviolet light emitting diode with ac voltage operation

Ultraviolet light emitting illuminator, and method for fabricating same, comprises an array of ultraviolet light emitting diodes and a first and a second terminal. When an alternating current is applied across the first and second terminals and thus to each of the diodes, the illuminator emits ultraviolet light at a frequency corresponding to that of the alternating current. The illuminator includes a template with ultraviolet light emitting quantum wells, a first buffer layer with a first type of conductivity and a second buffer layer with a second type of conductivity, all deposited preferably over a strain-relieving layer. A first and second metal contact are applied to the semiconductor layers having the first and second type of conductivity, respectively, to complete the LED. The emission spectrum ranges from 190 nm to 369 nm. The illuminator may be configured in various materials, geometries, sizes and designs.

Zinc oxide coated particles, compositions containing the same, and methods for making the same

Zinc oxide and / or zinc carbonate coated particles, methods of coating particles with zinc oxide and / or zinc carbonate, and various applications of such coated particles, including applications in cosmetics, rubber, and other polymer materials, are disclosed. As compared to rubber formulations with zinc oxide and core materials added separately, formulations including the present coated particles may have a higher transparency, lower Mooney viscosity and lower minimum torque, improved dispersability, a higher modulus at 100% and / or at 300% elongation, a higher tensile strength, better aging resistance, better abrasion resistance, lower density, and / or lower heat build up. Thus, products containing the present coated particles may enjoy similar or better properties than comparative products that include a conventional filler and / or zinc oxide per se, and the present coated particles may result in cost savings for the corresponding product formulations.

The present invention provides new solid solutions having a corundum-hematite crystalline structure which are useful as inorganic color pigments. Solid solutions according to the present invention include a host component having a corundum-hematite crystalline structure which contains as guest components one or more elements from the group consisting of aluminum, antimony, bismuth, boron, chrome, cobalt, gallium, indium, iron, lanthanum, lithium, magnesium, manganese, molybdenum, neodymium, nickel, niobium, silicon, tin, titanium, vanadium, and zinc. Solid solutions according to the present invention are formed by thoroughly mixing compounds, usually metal oxides or precursors thereof, which contain the host and guest components and then calcining the compounds to form the solid solutions having the corundum-hematite crystalline structure. Some of the new solid solutions according to the present invention exhibit relatively low Y CIE tri-stimulus values and relatively high near infrared reflectance.
