MSW disposal process and apparatus using gasification

A system for disposing of municipal solid waste provides commercially-available equipment that is modified to initially remove identifiable unwanted components from the waste, and then chop the waste into small pieces of a size suitable for handling, separation and combustion. The moisture content of the waste is reduced in a closed system by passing dry air through the waste in a confined space to absorb moisture and produce moist air, which is then dehumidified via refrigeration equipment. The dehumidified air is recycled through the waste repeatedly through the closed system until the water content has reached the predetermined amount. The waste is stored in a bunker for later use or is immediately combusted in a two-step process by first gasifying the dried waste to produce combustible syngas and then immediately or later combusting the gas in a gas turbine or other engine to produce electricity that is partly used to power the process and partly sold commercially.

A battery charger controller is configured to add a compensation current in the feedback control loop such that the output voltage varies with the output current to compensate charging cable voltage drop. In some embodiments, the output voltage is also proportional to a compensation resistor. Therefore, cable voltage drop compensation can be adjusted using a resistor that is external to the controller IC. The external resistor may be one of the feedback resistors connected at a voltage feedback pin. In another embodiment, the adjustable resistor is the resistor between the feedback resistors and the voltage feedback pin. In still another embodiment, the adjustable resistor is the resistor in parallel with a compensation capacitor. In embodiments of the invention, adjusting the resistance of the external compensation resistor can change the voltage drop compensation and allow the power supply to meet requirements of different charging cable applications.

Modified tdr method and apparatus for suspended solid concentration measurement

This invention utilizes the principle of time domain reflectometry (TDR) to develop an improved apparatus and method for suspended solid concentration (SSC) measurement. The apparatus comprises a TDR sensing waveguide for stably determining an electromagnetic-wave (EM-wave) travel time and a temperature sensor. The TDR sensing waveguide and the temperature sensor are submerged in a suspension to detect the EM-wave travel time and the temperature. A temperature-corrected relationship between EM-wave travel time and SSC is found and used to estimate the SSC. Although TDR has been used for measuring soil moisture content and high SSC, its accuracy is not satisfactory for typical SSC monitoring. The present invention improves the accuracy of TDR in SSC measurement by providing the apparatus and method disclosed herein, which are not affected by an electrical conductivity of the suspension and particle sizes of suspended solids therein, and therefore meet the requirements of general engineering applications and environmental monitoring.

Assessing a Response Model Using Performance Metrics

InactiveUS20120022939A1Reducing model development timeReduce the number of stepsMarketingComputerized systemCrowds
A computer system determines a response model for a solicited offering based on selected variables that characterize a target population. The response model may be used to identify recipients in the target population to increase the expected probability of the recipients responding. The response model may be formed through an iterative process and is initially formed using a subset of variables from characteristics of the target population. A performance process is then performed to assess the initial response model by rendering, a pool of information for analysis. Based on the results of the analysis, the response model may be modified so that the performance results can be enhanced and updated performance metrics can be further analyzed. When desired results are obtained, the response model is finalized and final performance results are rendered. The response model may then be applied to the target population to identify recipients for the solicited offering.
