Bone anchoring system

Methods and apparatus for connecting to a bone, which avoid the use of bone screws. A triangular shaped modular implant is used, with two sides of the structure and their respective vertex secured generally within the bone, with the base of the triangle outside the bone. These two arms, whether straight or arcuate, are cannulated, and are held together at their distal ends by a tightened cable that runs through both of the arms. The proximal ends of these arms are connected to a base side that completes the triangular structure. The device may be inserted into a vertebra and the base used for vertebral fusion. Alternatively, the arms themselves may be used to stabilize and fixate adjacent vertebrae, by insertion through adjacent vertebrae trans-segmentally. In the latter case, the vertex may be within the intervertebral space or within the vertebral body close to the intervertebral space.

Apparatus for blast freezing palletized product

Apparatus for blast freezing palletized products is disclosed in which tall racks have openings on at least one side that connect to a plenum chamber, against which stacked pallets can be placed one above another as well as beside one another adjacent the plenum openings, but with the rack providing only one pallet depth to optimize circulation of regular warehouse freezing air through the pallets at a rapid rate for rapid blast freezing. As another example, there are vertically adjustable panels in a tall rack to accommodate different height palletized products stacked one above another, in a way that allows for sealing between the plenum chamber and the palletized products on one side of the palletized product without either substantial blockage of air flow through the side of the palletized product and without allowing a substantial gap between the palletized product and the plenum that would allow a substantial bypass of flow through the palletized product. In particular, as to a particularly preferred embodiment of the invention, there is disclosed the fixing of the position of adjustable panels through the use of pins that could be inserted into any one of a series of vertically arranged holes to achieve any one of multiple discrete heights that are securely positioned, yet readily adjustable. The vertical adjustability of a member that has a rigid component that may or may not also contain a cushioned or flexible seal allows for much more durability, versatility and suitability for accommodating palletized products of various heights.

Non-solidifying rubberized asphalt composition for providing inpermeable intermediate drainage layer and method for providing inpermeable intermediate drainage layer with single paving process using the same

The present invention relates to a paving method of forming an intermediate layer, where a non-solidifying rubberized asphalt penetrates, on an asphalt mixture for base layer or a cement concrete to provide a permeable layer and an impermeable (intermediate) layer simultaneously with a single paving process for surface layer. The waterproofing and draining functions of the non-solidifying rubberized asphalt layer completely block water or moisture from penetrating into the underlying layer and protect the roads from damage due to freezing temperature with the moisture penetrating into the group in winter. The non-solidifying rubberized asphalt layer constituting the intermediate layer has the non-solidifying rubberized asphalt melt down and move upwards under the paving temperature and pressure applied during the paving process of forming a surface layer and firmly bind with the base layer, thereby completing an integrated pavement structure with enhanced water resistance and durability.

Synthesis and characterization of lead selenide capped with a benzoate ligand

Semiconductor materials offer several potential benefits as active elements in the development of harvesting-energy conversion technologies. In particular, lead selenide (PbSe) semiconductors have been used and proposed to design solar energy harvesting devices, IR sensors, FET devices, amongst others. The present disclosure provides a simple, low cost synthesis of lead selenide using benzoic acid as the capping ligand in an opened environment. The use of an aromatic ligand, and mores specifically benzoic acid, provides robustness and more durability to the lead selenide, and therefore prevents the lead selenide from breaking or cracking easily. Also the aromatic ligand prevents the degradation and oxidation of the lead selenide, without affecting any of the lead selenide electronic and chemical characteristics.
