The present invention relates to electrochromic polymeric solid films, manufacturing electrochromic devices using such solid films and processes for making such solid films and devices. The electrochromic polymeric solid films of the present invention exhibit beneficial properties and characteristics, especially when compared to known electrochromic media. The electrochromic polymeric solid films are transformed in situ from a low viscosity electrochromic monomer composition by exposure to electromagnetic radiation, and in so doing minimum shrinkage occurs. The electrochromic polymeric solid films of the present invention also perform well under prolonged coloration, outdoor weathering and all-climate exposure, and provide an inherent safety aspect not known to electrochromic media heretofore.

Nonwoven wet-lay flame barrier of the invention comprises a blend of water dispersible fibers, that are inherently fire resistant and nonshrinking to direct flame, along with water dispersible fibers extruded from polymers made with halogenated monomers and optionally including fiberglass and wood pulp, being together thermally bonded with a binder resin in a wet-lay manufacturing process to provide a relatively thin, but dense, durable flame barrier with excellent tensile, and durability properties in the end use application. The wet-lay flame barrier of this invention also allows for the manufacture of open flame resistant composite articles, while also permitting the continued use of conventional non-flame retardant dress cover fabrics, conventional non-flame retardant fiberfills and conventional non-flame retardant polyurethane foams.

The invention relates to slickened or siliconized flame resistant fiber blends that are well suited for use in mattresses, boxsprings, upholstered furniture, fiber-filled bed clothing, transportation seating or any end use application where a soft materials are desired for flame resistant (FR) purposes. Some of the fibers in the blend are slickened. The FR fibers incorporated into these blends include both char forming FR fibers and oxygen depleting FR fibers. FR char-forming fibers are those which exhibit little shrinkage when exposed to direct flame and are not spun from polymers manufactured with halogenated monomers. Oxygen depleting FR fibers are spun from polymers manufactured with halogenated monomers.

A composite monolithic element for use as a hot surface ignitor or the like includes first and second regions or layers. The first region or layer comprises a low pressure ejection molded mixture of silicon carbide and silicon nitride particles or other compatible mix which will alter processing art as a resistor. This resistor includes two cold portions and a hot portion intermediate thereof. A microvoided film formed by mixing a microvoid forming additive with a composition including a polymeric material. The microvoided film includes a printability additive. The microvoids formed during the processing of the composition to convert it into a film result in a reduction of the density of the film, making a lighter weight film requiring less polymeric material to produce a film of desired thickness while maintaining suitable structural characteristics. The microvoids are formed through β crystallization of the polymeric material during a cold drawing stage of the film fabrication process. A method for joining multiple ceramic components together is disclosed in one embodiment of the invention as including providing multiple ceramic components, each having a mating surface. A slip containing a mixture of alumina powder and a phosphate-containing reagent is applied to one or more of the mating surfaces. The mean particle size of the alumina powder is tailored to provide improved strength to the bond. Once the slip is applied, the ceramic components may be joined together at their mating surfaces. The joint may then be sintered to react the constituents in the mixture and thereby generate a bond between the ceramic components.

The present invention describes a one-part moisture-curing liquid-applied waterproofing membrane having a polyurethane polymer, a long-chain aldimine and a hardener selected from an oxazolidine and another aldimine. The membrane has a low viscosity at low solvent content and a good shelf life stability and cures fast to form a solid elastic material. The membrane is particularly suitable for roofing applications, possessing high strength, high elongation and good durability under outdoor weathering conditions in a broad temperature range.
