Method and apparatus for obtaining blood for diagnostic tests

Method and apparatus for obtaining a sample of blood from a patient for subsequent diagnostic tests, e.g., glucose monitoring. In one aspect of the invention, the method comprises the steps of:
    • (a) placing a blood collection device over a region on the surface of the skin from which said sample is to be obtained,
    • (b) forming a seal between said blood collection device and said surface of the skin,
    • (c) creating a vacuum sufficient to result in said surface of the skin becoming stretched and engorged with blood,
    • (d) triggering a lancing assembly and causing a lancet to penetrate said skin,
    • (e) retracting said lancet,
    • (f) withdrawing blood toward and onto a fluid collector, and
    • (g) releasing the vacuum.
In another aspect of the invention, an apparatus for carrying out the method described previously is provided. The apparatus comprises:
    • (a) a housing having a sealable chamber located therein and a sealable opening in fluid communication with said sealable chamber,
    • (b) a power source,
    • (c) a vacuum pump operably connected to said power source, said vacuum pump in communication with said sealable chamber,
    • (d) a lancing assembly positioned within said housing, said lancing assembly capable of moving a lancet towards said sealable opening, and
    • (e) a fluid collector positioned in said sealable chamber, said fluid collector in fluid communication with said sealable opening.

The invention relates to an upcast method for producing a high-purity bright copper rod. The method comprises the following steps of: drying smelting copper raw materials needed by smelting, mixing, adding the mixture into a smelting furnace, and covering firing charcoal with the thickness of between 100 and 150mm on starting molten copper until red copper is entirely molten, wherein molten copper constantly flows toward a heat preservation furnace under the action of fluid force; boiling the high-temperature molten copper and degassing before ingot guiding, adding prepared high-purity graphite carbon powder onto the liquid level of the molten red copper in the heat preservation furnace, and aerating high-purity nitrogen at the position which is 50 to 100mm lower than the liquid level of the heat preservation furnace; covering the firing charcoal after boiling and degassing, covering a furnace cover, performing draw casting operation, drawing a draw casting machine for draw casting bythe upcast method, cooling in a graphite crystallizer by the upcast method to obtain a qualified high-purity oxygen-free copper rod blank, and winding on a drawn cast ingot passive winding machine; and performing multi-pass rolling and fine-drawing on the high-purity oxygen-free high-brightness copper rod blank by an eight-rack rod cold rolling mill, and drawing the blank until the copper rod is obtained by a wire drawing machine, namely obtaining a finished product after the copper rod passes the inspection.

System and Method for Calibration of a Flow Device

Embodiments of the present invention provide a system and method for rapid calibration of a flow device. A flow device can be provided with a calibration flow curve (e.g., represented by an nth degree polynomial) by the manufacturer or a third party. The calibration curve can be adjusted for a process fluid and the system for which the flow device is actually installed using one or more correction factors. The correction factors can be determined for the flow curve based on a simple empirical test or fluid properties of the process fluid. The corrected flow curve is then saved at the flow device so that it can be used for future flow control.

To prevent a rapid rise in pressure of gas supplied to the gas tank, the controller includes an opening control unit for controlling the opening of the regulating valve when a detected value of the pressure sensor is lower than a pressure corresponding to the gas pressure in the accumulator by a predetermined value or more, and a compression control unit for controlling drive of the compressor so that the compressor compresses sucked gas when a pressure difference of a pressure detected by the pressure sensor from a pressure corresponding to the gas pressure in the accumulator becomes a value smaller than the predetermined value.

Heat pipe and method for manufacturing the same

A heat pipe includes a metallic pipe, a wick structure and a working fluid. The interior of the metallic pipe has a sealing chamber, and is formed into an evaporating section, an adiabatic section and a condensing section along its lengthwise direction. The wick structure comprises a first wick structure and two elongate second wick structures connected to the first wick structure. The first wick structure is adhered to the inner wall of the evaporating section. The two second wick structures are separated from each other and adhered to the inner walls of the evaporating section, the adiabatic section and the condensing section. A gas channel is formed between the two second wick structures, and has a smooth surface. The working fluid is filled in the sealed chamber. By this arrangement, the space for the gas channel can be enlarged, thereby accelerating the flowing speed of the internal gas and enhancing the heat-conducting efficiency of the heat pipe.
