Keyboard System with Automatic Correction

There is disclosed an enhanced text entry system which uses word-level analysis to automatically correct inaccuracies in user keystroke entries on reduced keyboards such as those implemented on a touch-sensitive panel or display screen, or on mechanical keyboard systems. A method and system are defined which determine one or more alternate textual interpretations of each sequence of inputs detected within a designated auto-correcting keyboard region. The actual contact locations for the keystrokes may occur outside the boundaries of the specific keyboard key regions associated with the actual characters of the word interpretations proposed or offered for selection, where the distance from each contact location to each corresponding intended character may in general increase with the expected frequency of the intended word in the language or in a particular context. Likewise, in a mechanical keyboard system, the keys actuated may differ from the keys actually associated with the letters of the word interpretations. Each such sequence corresponds to a complete word, and the user can easily select the intended word from among the generated interpretations. Additionally, when the system cannot identify a sufficient number of likely word interpretation candidates of the same length as the input sequence, candidates are identified whose initial letters correspond to a likely interpretation of the input sequence. The approach utilizes the information contained in the entire sequence of keystrokes corresponding to a word in order to determine the user's likely intention for each character of the sequence. The system also accommodates punctuation characters such as hyphens or apostrophes that are commonly embedded in words such as hyphenated compounds and contractions in English, and characters with special diacritics such as are commonly found in various European languages, e.g., diacritic accent. Special functions may be applied depending on where the user touches the intended string in a displayed word selection list. Once the user selects the desired string, it is automatically “accepted” for output and the next input detected starts a new input sequence corresponding to the entry of a next word.

Keypad battery pack, mobile terminal available for different keypad battery packs, and method of changing keypad of mobile terminal

A keypad battery pack, a mobile terminal available for different keypad battery packs, and a method for changing a keypad of a mobile terminal by replacing a battery pack with a different battery pack are provided. The mobile terminal has a keypad formed on a battery pack as well as on a front surface of the mobile terminal, thereby expanding a keypad-placement area to a rear surface of the mobile terminal. As a result, keys of the keypad are arranged on both surfaces of the mobile terminal, and thus a key arrangement space has room for an additional key, thereby enabling easy adding of a key. Further, the keypads of the mobile terminal are arranged on the rear surface and the front surface according to functions of the keypads, thereby providing a keypad structure suitable for a mobile terminal having an additional function. Further, the mobile terminal may selectively mount a plurality of battery packs having different types and arrangements of keypads.

Capacitive touchpad with physical key function

A capacitive touchpad with physical key function comprises a soft flexible first conductive layer; a second conductive layer; and a soft flexible insulator layer disposed between the first and the second conductive layers. The insulator layer has at least a through hole for the first conductive layer to connect to the second conductive layer while the touchpad is pressed and cause the voltages on the first or the second conductive layers to change and thus to trigger a predetermined key function.

Method for a high-speed writing system and high -speed writing device

The invention concerns a high speed writing system and a high speed writing device with special menu selection for entering text by means of a pen and a touch-screen. This method of entering text is suitable for desktop PCs, laptop PCs, palmtop PCs, mobile phones (for SMS, WAP and e-mail), watches and other electronic devices. Significantly higher writing efficiency than on a QWERTY keyboard is reached with little investment in practicing time. The monitor screen features a key section with all consonants of the alphabet, as well as one vowel key distinguished by its arrangement and function. All elements of the writing process defining the method can be generated by pen movements such as selection of a key or guiding it in one of eight stroke directions, as well as combinations of these pen movementsThe high speed writing devices described here excel by their small and ergonomically arranged entry sections, whereby all keys for text entry can be reached from one single hand position that never needs re-setting.

Keyboard protective cover

A protective cover or envelope for a keyboard array that prevents entry of contaminants such as water, foodstuffs, chemical compounds, including medical or pharmaceutical compositions in the form of fluids or solids, dust and the like into the interior of the keyboard assembly from the keypad top deck. A membrane of a resilient, substantially transparent, material, such as an elastomeric polyolefin, is used to form a one-piece cover that extends over the keyboard array and preferably at least a portion of the obverse face of the keyboard assembly and acts to drape or enshroud the keyboard assembly on its upper face or deck. Preferably the elastomeric cover is an envelope-like membrane structure of generally uniform thickness and is constructed in a shape that when stretched to receive the keyboard, it covers the top portion of the key array as well as extending at least partially down the side walls of the keyboard and is in proximate contact with the top deck of the keyboard assembly. The “touch” and “feel” of the individual keys is retained with the protective cover in its operative position, including keys of ordinary construction as well as those used with a Braille system of markings on the surfaces of the keys. As a consequence of its elastomeric properties, a single keyboard cover can be used with keyboards having different key patterns, e.g., different models from a single manufacturer or different keyboards from different manufacturers. The attractive economics and broad applicability achievable with the cover of the present invention also permits an individual user to retain a personal keyboard cover for a use with various keyboards.
