Techniques for voice-based user authentication for mobile access to network services

Techniques for granting access on a network having a network service to a user of a mobile device having a microphone includes determining a first identification uniquely associated with a registered user having a registered voiceprint that matches a voiceprint of the user of the mobile device. A second identification uniquely associated with the mobile device is also determined. It is then determined whether to grant access based on the first identification and the second identification. If it is determined to grant access, access is granted on the network to the user. Various aspects of the invention allow a user to be authenticated separately of the mobile device by the voice of the user, and granted access to a network service based on both the user's identity and the identity of the mobile device. Both the user's voice and the device identity are provided using the current capabilities of wireless telephones. Obtaining the first identification and second identification within a specified time interval makes confidently practical the technique of verifying that a certain user controls a certain mobile device, and then allowing access by that device to protected services.

In a mobile device, a bone conduction or vibration sensor is used to detect the user's speech and the resulting output is used as the source for a low power Voice Trigger (VT) circuit that can activate the Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) of the host device. This invention is applicable to mobile devices such as wearable computers with head mounted display, mobile phones and wireless headsets and headphones which use speech recognition for the entering of input commands and control. The speech sensor can be a bone conduction microphone used to detect sound vibrations in the skull, or a vibration sensor, used to detect sound pressure vibrations from the user's speech. This VT circuit can be independent of any audio components of the host device and can therefore be designed to consume ultra-low power. Hence, this VT circuit can be active when the host device is in a sleeping state and can be used to wake the host device on detection of speech from the user. This VT circuit will be resistant to outside noise and react solely to the user's voice.

A system and method for providing a password to a user using voice recognition technology. The user's voice signature is captured and stored in order to identify the user. When the user forgets or otherwise loses a password needed to log into a computer system, he telephones a password reset system. An identifier corresponding to the user is provided by the user by using the telephone keypad or voice commands. One or more random words are requested by the password reset system. The user responds by repeating the words into the telephone receiver. The received words are matched against the user's stored voice signature to authenticate the user. If the user is authenticated, one or more desired passwords are provided to the user using a number of delivery mechanisms. If the user is not authenticated, the intrusion is logged to further maintain system security.

Systems and method for secure delivery of files to authorized recipients

By asking the recipient of an encrypted received file to read aloud a check text, retrieved from a network server, that address, or URL, is encoded within the file name of the encrypted received file, the system of the invention automatically verifies the identity of the recipient, confirms that the file has been received by the intended recipient, and then decrypts the file. The utterances of text spoken by the recipient are processed by means of an automatic speech recognition component. The system determines whether the spoken text corresponds to the check text presented to the reader, in which case the system applies an automatic speaker recognition algorithm to determine whether the person reciting the check text has voice characteristics matching those of the intended recipient based on a previous enrollment of the intended recipient's voice to the system. When the system confirms the identity of the recipient, the decryption key is transmitted and the encrypted received file is automatically decrypted and displayed to the recipient. In a preferred embodiment, the system records and marks with a time-stamp the recipient's reciting of the voice check text, so that it can later be compared to the intended recipient's voice if the recipient repudiates reception.

A projection system projects application windows onto a large information display. One or more users may command their respective window applications using laser pointers and / or voice commands. A registration program assigns a unique identification to each user that associates a particular users's voice and a particular laser pointer pattern chosen by that user, with that particular user. Cameras scan the information display and process the composite of the application windows and any laser pointer images thereon. The system will then perform speech recognition of the user's voice command. If the command is recognized, the system performs the speech-recognized command as a window operation.
