Apparatus and Method for Controlled Delivery of Seeds to an Open Furrow.

Abstract of Disclosure An apparatus and method for controlled delivery of seeds between the seed meter of an agricultural planter to an open seed furrow. Seeds are received individually and in a sequence from a seed meter into a housing. The seeds are conveyed in sequence through the housing by a conveyor at a controlled speed to a location proximate the open furrow, then gently released into the open furrow as the agricultural planter moves forward. The controlled delivery of the seed to the furrow ensures more accurate seed placement within the furrow at the desired seed spacing, thereby improving crop yield potential.

Brazed diamond tools and methods for making the same

Superabrasive tools and methods for the making thereof are disclosed and described. In one aspect, superabrasive particles are chemically bonded to a matrix support material according to a predetermined pattern by a braze alloy. The brazing alloy may be provided as a powder, thin sheet, or sheet of amorphous alloy. A template having a plurality of apertures arranged in a predetermined pattern may be used to place the superabrasive particles on a given substrate or matrix support material.

Flexible stent and method of manufacture

A preferred embodiment of a stent provides a folded strut section that provides both structural rigidity and reduction in foreshortening of the stent mechanism. A flexible section provides flexibility for delivery of the stent mechanism. In a second embodiment, flexible section columns are angled with respect to each other, and to the longitudinal axis of the stent. These relatively flexible sections are oppositely phased in order to negate any torsion along their length. In yet another embodiment, the flexible connector can take on an undulating shape (like an ā€œNā€), but such that the longitudinal axis of the connector is not parallel with the longitudinal axis of the stent. Finally, a new method is disclosed for making stents. The method consists of performing a standard photochemical machining process of cutting, cleaning and coating the tube with a photoresist. However, unlike former methods, the photoresist image is developed on the surface of the cylindrical metallic tube, which results in a controlled variable etching rate at selected sites on the cylindrical metallic tube during the etching process. Further embodiments provide living hinge connectors and connections along the length of the radial strut member.

Optical performance monitor

An optical performance monitor for accurate monitoring of the OSNR of a WDM optical signal is provided wherein a demultiplexing arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) having a plurality of Vernier input ports is disposed between an optical switch and a photodiode array coupled to the output ports of the AWG. In operation, the optical switch sequentially provides the input optical signal into each of the Vernier ports, and signals detected by photodiodes are stored in a memory unit. The apparatus is capable of monitoring the OSNR of the WDM signal with a frequency step which is M times smaller than a frequency spacing between the AWG transmission bands, while enabling the OSNR monitoring in an enhanced dynamic range by providing accurate noise sampling.
