Smart volume control of device audio output based on received audio input

A method implemented by processing and other audio components of an electronic device provides a smart audio output volume control, which correlates a volume level of an audio output to that of an audio input that triggered generation of the audio output. According to one aspect, the method includes: receiving an audio input that triggers generation of an audio output response from the user device; determining an input volume level corresponding to the received audio input; and outputting the audio output response at an output volume level correlated to the input volume level. The media output volume control level of the device is changed from a preset normal level, including from a mute setting, to the determined output level for outputting the audio output. Following, the media output volume control level is automatically reset to a pre-set volume level for normal media output.

Electronic identification system

An identification system, e.g. for tagging goods in a retail store, has at least one interrogator and a number of transponders for attaching to goods. Each transponder responds to an interrogation signal from the interrogator by returning a response signal containing information stored in the transponder. The transponder can be switched, by means of a mode switching signal from the interrogator, into a reduced power mode in which the power level of the response signal is reduced from its normal level. The reduced power mode may for example be selected when the goods have been paid for, to ensure that the transponder does not trigger an anti-theft gate, which can detect only the normal power level. The transponder can, however, still be read by an interrogator capable of detecting the reduced power level, e.g. at a customer services desk.

Methods and composition for the treatment of cystic fibrosis and related illnesses

InactiveUS20060258599A1Effective treatmentCorrect cellular GSH imbalancesBiocideCarbohydrate active ingredientsDiseaseGlutathione binding
The present invention relates to methods and compositions to treat subjects having cystic fibrosis. These compositions comprise the class of isothiocyanates. Isothiocyanates, absorbed by a cell are conjugated with glutathione GSH by glutathione-s-tranferase (GST). The conjugates are substrates of the multi-drug resistance associated (MRP) / multi-drug resistance (MDR) proteins. These proteins are functionally redundant to the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR), allowing for the substrate conjugates to be exported from the cell. The export of GSH conjugates restores intracellular and extracellular levels of GSH to normal levels. Normalizing both extracellular and intracellular GSH via the increased conjugation of isothiocyanates with GSH, and subsequent export, can significantly rectify numerous enzymatic processes and correct the pathologies that are typical of patients suffering from cystic fibrosis.

Erasing non-volatile memory utilizing changing word line conditions to compensate for slower erasing memory cells

ActiveUS20060221708A1Efficient and consistent erasureRead-only memoriesDigital storageCapacitanceInternal memory
Voltage conditions applied to the memory cells of a non-volatile memory system are changed during erase operations in order to equalize the erase behavior of the select memory cells with other memory cells of the system that are being concurrently erased. The changed conditions can compensate for capacitively coupled voltages within a NAND string. After biasing a NAND string for an erase operation and beginning application of the erase voltage pulse, the word lines of one or more interior memory cells can be floated. By floating the selected interior word lines, the peak erase potential created across the tunnel dielectric region of the cells coupled thereto is decreased from its normal level. Consequently, the erase rates of these cells are slowed to substantially match that of the slower erasing end memory cells of the string. Different word lines can be floated at different times to alter the erase behavior of different memory cells by different amounts.

Systems and methods for detecting normal levels of bacteria in water using a multiple angle light scattering (MALS) instrument

A particle detection system uses a camera to produce a picture based on the scattered light generated by a particle in a liquid medium, when a laser beam is incident on the particle. These pictures are then automatically analyzed through the use of a processing system (e.g., a computer). The processing system is configured to record the forward scattering intensity (e.g., amplitude) and the picture of the scattered light rays to generate a classification of the particle causing the scattering. Count rate and trends of the classified particles are monitored to detect a change that is representative of the overall health safety of the water or by knowing the levels of bacteria in process water, such as Reverse Osmosis (RO) feed water, reject brine, and product water, the operator may better monitor the life and condition of the RO membrane.

Print head driving circuit

A print head driving circuit is provided whereby, even if the load changes, the accuracy of the driving voltage waveform supplied to the load can be maintained, and consequently, deterioration in printing quality can be prevented. Transistors Q3, Q4 connected in a push-pull configuration are connected to the upstream of a transistor Q1. If the base potential of the transistor Q1 rises above its normal level, then the emitter potential of the transistors Q3, Q4 will rise and the transistor Q3 will become non-conductive, and the transistor Q1 will also become non-conductive, but since the transistor Q4 is conductive, the current I2 will flow from the base terminal of the transistor Q1, to earth, via the transistor Q4, and hence the base potential of the transistor Q1 will fall to or below the prescribed value. As a result, it is possible to prevent the base potential of the transistor Q1 from rising up in excess of the prescribed value.

Multi-parameter aggregative indicator forecasting method of coal petrography dynamic disaster

A multi-parameter aggregative indicator forecasting method of a coal petrography dynamic disaster is suitable for forecasting coal petrography dynamic disasters such as outburst of coal and gas and rock bust of coal and gas in a coal mine excavating process. When various index prediction methods are coupled in the same monitoring system, problems such as how to select importance degrees of various indicators and how to determine a critical value of the various indicators are produced. According to amplitude values of four indicators including electromagnetic radiation, slight shock, acoustic emission and gas density, an average value of the amplitude values in a normal level and the maximum value of the amplitude values of the four indicators when the coal petrography dynamic disasters happen at any moment, the multi-parameter aggregative indicator forecasting method of the coal petrography dynamic disaster determines a single indicator hazard index of the four indicators at the moment. The value of single index hazard index determines single index weights of the four indicators, and therefore an aggregative indicator hazard index of the four indicators is calculated, and finally a danger class of the coal petrography dynamic disaster which happens in an excavating roadway is determined according to the value of the aggregative indicator hazard index. The multi-parameter aggregative indicator forecasting method of the coal petrography dynamic disaster provides a critical value determination method and an early warning standard for the research and development of a multi-parameter monitoring system of the coal petrography dynamic disaster.

System and method for delayed priority boost

A system and method is provided for delaying a priority boost of an execution thread. When a thread prepares to enter a critical section of code, such as when the thread utilizes a shared system resource, a user mode accessible data area is updated indicating that the thread is in a critical section and, if the kernel receives a preemption event, the priority boost that the thread should receive. If the kernel receives a preemption event before the thread finishes the critical section, the kernel applies the priority boost on behalf of the thread. Often, the thread will finish the critical section without having to have its priority actually boosted. If the thread does receive an actual priority boost then, after the critical section is finished, the kernel resets the thread's priority to a normal level.
