An evaluation method for a potential coefficient used to predict and forecast productivity of coalbed methane, comprises the following steps: determining main controlling factors on a basis of coalbed methane well methane production mechanism analysis; using GIS powerful functions of data management and spatial analysis to establish a sub-thematic image of each main controlling factor; using an ANN to determine each main controlling factor's weight contribution on the productivity; and establishing a coalbed methane productivity potential coefficient evaluation model based on the coupled ANN and the GIS to perform partition and evaluation on the coalbed methane productivity potential coefficient. According to a result of ANN and GIS coupled coalbed methane productivity potential forecast evaluation effect, a coalbed methane productivity potential evaluation partition scheme is provided. Evaluation partition is preferably matched with actual situation, evaluation results are basically the same with analysis results of methane production geological conditions, and evaluation effect is ideal. The evaluation method provides significant technical basis for reasonable design and making of block drainage schemes, and fills the gap of insufficient practical and theoretical mutual complementary research.
