Interruptible power supply module

InactiveUS6879059B2Extended outageProlonged and scattered and widespread blackoutDc network circuit arrangementsBatteries circuit arrangementsPower utilityTelecommunications network
An interruptible power supply module, located at a customer's premise, functions to reduce the demand on a power utility company. As a power utility senses a critical power supply demand situation, it sends an “interrupt power” control signal through an alternative communications network (a telecommunications network, for example), to each subscribing customer. Upon receipt of the “interrupt” control signal, a switch is activated in the customer's interruptible power supply module to remove a pre-defined “interruptible” load for a predetermined period of time (perhaps not to exceed 15 minutes in any hour). The module may also be used to “gracefully” add interruptible loads back onto the system after a complete power outage.

Power allocation management in an information handling system

An information handling system includes modular processing resources, each having a main processor, system memory, and preferably a service processor resource. A management resource coupled to a service processor resource evaluates a system power budget and allocates power to a processing resource by indicating a critical power level. The processing resource determines a warning power level based on the critical power level and monitor its actual power consumption. If actual power consumption exceeds the critical power level, the processing resource is powered down. If actual power consumption exceeds the warning power level, the processing resource throttles its performance to conserve power and requests a power allocation increase. If actual power consumption is below the warning power level, the processing resource may request a reduction in allocated power.

Method for material processing and/or material analysis using lasers

The invention relates to a method for material processing and / or material analysis of an object (18) made from condensed matter by means of a laser (12). A laser pulse (14) is generated by a laser, emitted in the direction of the object. The laser pulse is spatially and temporally focussed such as to give a peak power for the laser pulse at a point between the laser and the object which exceeds the critical power for a self-focussing effect of the laser pulse. The laser pulse thus forms a filament (88) of high power density. The filament (88) is directed at the object and generates an aggregation state change there (evaporation or plasma formation) for a part of the material of the object. The method can be applied to both material processing (cutting, drilling, welding, hardening) and material analysis (analysis of the plasma light).

Two periodically bending non-linear optical waveguide coupled all-optical switch

The invention provides a full optical switch which is made by coupling two cycle-bending nonlinear light wave guides. The full optical switch comprises two light wave guides arranged in parallel, which are bent by a synchronous cycle along the propagation direction of light and whose lengths are equal to one another and are odd multiples of the coupling length. The full optical switch bends the cycles of the two parallel light wave guides along the propagation direction of the light. Since the bending of the cycles of the wave guides is equivalent to the increase of nonlinearity of a coupler, a switch threshold value can be greatly reduced. The critical power of the switch of the bent light wave guide coupler mainly depends on the bending strength and the bending cycles of the wave guides. And the improved full optical switch has the advantages of remarkably improved contrast and higher sensitivity of the switch threshold value; in addition, the improved full optical switch overcomes the shortcomings of a full optical switch based on a traditional light wave guide coupler, such as progressive operation and incompletion.

Thermal limit analysis with hot-channel model for boiling water reactors

An analytical method for the initial flux and transient hot water flow parameters for a boiling water reactor with single fuel bundle. Firstly, the method is to calculate intial flux and transient hot water flow parameter based on single fuel bundle. Then, it uses supplier provided CPR (Critical Power Ratio) correlation to calculate transient CPR and calculate the whole reactor core for hot water parameters as boundary condition. Iteration is used to figure out DCPR (Delta Critical Power Ratio). The obtained limit transient is selected as the maximum from DCPR. The maximum transient DCPR combines Safety Limit Minimum Critical Power Ratio (SLMCPR) and safety margin to figure out the OLMCPR (Operating Limit Minimum Critical Power Ratio). Both the plant layout and operational thermal limit are based on OLMCPR to assure the safety of reactor core.

Universal power supply system

A universal power supply system allows each board mounted DC power module or each AC / DC power supply device therein having identical dimensions and appearance to further have a specification setting circuit. When the board mounted DC power module or the AC / DC power supply device is plugged in a backboard module, the specification setting terminal outputs a specification identification signal to a monitoring circuit of the backboard module. As built in with a specification mapping table, the monitoring circuit can compare the specification identification signal to find a model number corresponding to the signal, and automatically sets a critical current value or critical power value of each board mounted DC power module for over-current protection or over-power protection. Accordingly, the universal power supply system can be adapted to different board mounted DC power modules or AC / DC power supply devices without redesigning the backboard module.

Aerodynamic window for generating and characterizing a filament

A system and method for launching and characterizing filaments are provided using an aerodynamic window. A filament, a self-induced waveguide in air, is produced by high power laser pulses traversing the atmosphere that can self-focus due to the nonlinear index of refraction of air. At some critical power, self-focusing overcomes diffraction in the atmosphere and the beam collapses until it is balanced by some higher order effect, usually plasma de-focusing. The use of an aerodynamic window provides an opening for a laser beam to propagate between two different atmospheric regions without the use of a solid window, such as between the atmosphere and a vacuum. An aerodynamic window provides a means for controllably launching a filament into the atmosphere. Additionally, an aerodynamic window allows for the characterizing evaluation of a filament without damage to the optical diagnostic tools.

Method for rapidly analyzing reactive power balance and critical power flow of power system

The invention belongs to the power system field, and in particular relates to a method for rapidly analyzing reactive power balance and a critical power flow of a power system. The method comprises the following steps: first, according to a principle of hierarchical and regional balance of reactive power, rapidly analyzing the reactive power balance by fully using a quantitative relation between reactive power requirements and active power transmissions; then starting solving the critical power flow of the reactive power balance, wherein a m-in-and-n-out transformer substation is equalized to a one-in-and-one-out transformer substation, and then an equation of active power balance and an equation of the reactive power balance are written according to the one-in-and-one-out transformer substation, so as to calculate critical power flows of a incoming line and an outgoing line; and changing main-transformer load or a high-pressure-level injected power flow and solving the series critical power flow, so as to get a curve in which the critical power flow varies according to the main-transformer load (or the high-pressure-level injected power flow), thereby improving applicability of research conclusions.

Unscented transformation method for analyzing voltage stability probability of system containing wind power

The invention belongs to the technical field of voltage stability of power systems, and specifically relates to an unscented transformation method for analyzing the voltage stability probability of asystem containing wind power. First, a static voltage stability probability evaluation model is established by considering the randomness of wind farm output and the uncertainty of load increasing direction; then, the voltage stability probability evaluation problem is converted into deterministic static voltage stability analysis of a small number of sample points by using a UT method; and finally, the deterministic problem is solved by the modern interior point method to obtain the mean value and covariance matrix of an output random variable. The original probability analysis problem is converted into a deterministic optimization problem, and the influence of the wind speed correlation between wind farms close to each other on the probability distribution of critical power is analyzed. The method is easy to implement and efficient in calculation, and can be used in online calculation of power systems. The voltage stability probability obtained is more accurate in analysis and has high calculation accuracy, and is convenient for power system dispatchers and operators to understand and use.
