Optical coupler for use in an optical touch sensitive device

An optical touch-sensitive device is able to determine the locations of multiple simultaneous touch events. The optical touch-sensitive device includes multiple emitters and detectors coupled with an optical coupler assembly through a waveguide on the surface on the optical-touch sensitive device. The coupler may be side coupled or edge coupled to the waveguide. For both the side coupled or edge coupled cases, the coupler may also be configured to reorient beams to accommodate any orientation of emitters and detectors with respect to the waveguide. The coupler may also be configured to translate beams laterally or vertically to accommodate any position of emitters and detectors. The coupler, and touch-sensitive device more generally, are also configured to prevent ambient light entering the waveguide from hitting the emitters and detectors. Each emitter produces optical beams which are received by the detectors. Touch events disturb the optical beams.

Sleep appliance

A dental oral appliance to reduce or eliminate snoring or obstructive sleep apnea and to open the airway for a sleeping patient. The appliance covers the inside (lingual) of the upper or lower teeth and has an open palate. Retention for the appliance is provided by an occlusal coverge of the upper or lower teeth. A raised incisor ramp that extends from the incisal tip of the incisors toward the lingual, or posterior ramps, separate the posterior teeth to open the airway. A transpalatal bar, which extends from the inside (lingual) of the right molars to the inside of the left molars, inhibits the upward and backward movement of the tongue. An anterior tongue restrainer which is attached to the transpalatal bar at one end and the front of the appliance at the other end, aids in inhibiting and restraining the upward and backward movement of the tongue.

Described herein is a mitral valve and systems and methods for implanting the same. The mitral valve device is designed to easily orient to and conform to the mitral orifice natural morphology. This mitral valve system may be implanted using a system of 2 guide wires that facilitate orientation of the flat portion of the stent properly with the flat portion of the mitral valve that is adjacent to the aortic valve. Additionally, the disclosed valve may have multiple mounds distributed across the outer surface of the valve / stent complex so as to prevent or reduce paravalvular leak after implantation.

Start-up procedure for an isolated switched mode power supply

An isolated switched mode power supply (SMPS) is disclosed. The SMPS comprises a switching controller to generate start-up and operational switching control signals. The SMPS further includes a transformer, having a primary winding, and a full-bridge drive circuit to drive the primary winding. The full-bridge drive circuit comprises a first switching element, a boot-strap dnving circuit, and a second switching element. The switching controller is further used to start up isolated SMPS by determining a duty cycle for operational control signals and generating the start-up switching control signals.

Methods and compositions that enhance bioavailability of coenzyme-Q10

Bioavailability of Coenzyme-Q10 (“Co-Q10”), an oil-soluble substance, can be enhanced in a subject by modifying, e.g. nanonizing or charging, the form of Co-Q10. Co-Q10 bioavailability also can be enhanced by administering Co-Q10 to the subject as an oil (lipid)-based and water (hydro)-based mixed composition, along with other optional components, such as oils, resins and other carriers. Accordingly, the invention provides various Co-Q10 compositions, e.g. compositions comprised of (i) Co-Q10 dissolved in one or more Co-Q10-soluble oils and (ii) Co-Q10 in admixture with at least one water-dispersible agent. A Co-Q10 complex of the invention, therefore, yields an increased cell absorption rate, as well as an enhanced percentage of Co-Q10 peak absorption, compared to previously known compounds. Methods for making and using the aforementioned compositions also are provided.
