Ramp signal with boost portion preceding a time slot

A transmitter includes a power amplifier which is capable of both linear and non-linear operation, controlled by first and second control loops. A power controller includes a capacitive component, and controls the gain of the power amplifier. A ramp generation circuit provides a control signal to the power controller. It includes a ROM which stores ramp data values based on samples of a predetermined ramp shape. The ramp shape is based on a generally regular profile C, for example a cos2 or cos4 function. The ramp shape also includes a boost portion BP, which enhances the ramp data values before the beginning of the generally regular profile C. The boost portion BP causes the capacitor in the feedback loop of the relevant control loop to become fully charged more rapidly, which produces a corresponding increase in the output power of the power amplifier shortly after the generally regular profile C is applied. This allows the transmitter to follow the generally regular profile C of the ramp signal at an earlier time when compared with the prior art. The size of the boost portion BP can be adjusted dependent on a detected temperature.

Method and apparatus for beamforming based on broadband antenna

A beamforming method based on broadband antenna is provided, comprising: detecting the frequency of input signals of an antenna; determining the effective antenna aperture between elements of the antenna array according to the detected frequency; computing the weight vector of each element of the antenna array to the signals according to the determined effective antenna aperture and the transmission function of the antenna array; multiplying the input signals with said weight vector of each element of the antenna array to the signals, combining them and outputting the beam signals. By performing weighting operation respectively to the input signals after a series of delaying operation, and then combining them, the single digital signals can be acquired. This effectively reduces the odds produced by the antenna between transmitting signals and receiving signals, and thus dramatically improves the communication quality.

Selective alignment of stators in axial airgap electric devices comprising low-loss materials

An axial gap dynamoelectric machine comprises first and second stators disposed coaxially with an intermediate rotor. The stators are selectively aligned with an axial offset between the positions of their respective teeth and slots. The stators comprise toroidal cores having laminated layers composed of a material selected from the group consisting of amorphous and nanocrystalline metals and optimized Fe-based alloy. Optionally, the machine further comprises misalignment means for adjusting the offset of the stators. Adaptive adjustment permits the machine to be operated to in a mode that reduces the back EMF of the motor, allowing constant voltage to be maintained as speed is increased. Reducing back EMF also allows a wider range of operating speed, especially in combination with use of high pole counts. Alternatively, the machine can be operated, e.g. at lower speed, in a constant torque mode. The machine may exploit the high pole count achievable by use of improved soft magnetic materials. Also provided are techniques for reducing torque ripple during operation, and also for using the stator offset in combination with a dual full wave bridge rectifier arrangement.

Circuit, including feedback, for reducing DC-offset and noise produced by an amplifier

An amplifier (AMP) is provided with a pair of choppers (CHPi,CHPo) in order to reduce the DC-offset and the noise produced by the amplifier (AMP). To obtain an optimal noise reduction the pair of choppers (CHPi,CHPo) operate on a high frequency. As a result the DC-offset cancellation is not optimal because a so-called charge injection of the switches in the pair of choppers (CHPi,CHPo) produces a DC-offset. To overcome this problem the amplifier (AMP) is further provided with further offset cancellation means which are for example formed by a further pair of choppers (CHPfi,CHPfo). This further pair of choppers (CHPfi,CHPfo) operates on a relatively low frequency. The combination of the pair of choppers (CHPi,CHPo) and the further pair of choppers (CHPfi,CHPfo) guarantees an optimal DC-offset cancellation as well as an optimal noise cancellation.

It provides methods, systems and devices for reduced-error processing of transform-coded data. After inverse transformation of transform data, high-precision numbers are manipulated. The converting to integers and clipping to an allowed range steps are executed at any stage in the manipulation to obtain integer representation of the inverse transformed data such as for displaying of the data. However, further processing including forward transforming back to the transform domain is executed on the high-precision numbers. Thus, the rounding and clipping errors are not present in the processed data. Although advantageous to many applications employing digital transformed data, the invention is particularly advantageous for use in digital studios during editing of MPEG-coded, JPEG-coded and wavelet-coded video and audio data.
