Source-independent full waveform inversion of seismic data

A set of seismic trace data is collected in an input data set that is first Fourier transformed in its entirety into the frequency domain. A normalized wavefield is obtained for each trace of the input data set in the frequency domain. Normalization is done with respect to the frequency response of a reference trace selected from the set of seismic trace data. The normalized wavefield is source independent, complex, and dimensionless. The normalized wavefield is shown to be uniquely defined as the normalized impulse response, provided that a certain condition is met for the source. This property allows construction of the inversion algorithm disclosed herein, without any source or source coupling information. The algorithm minimizes the error between data normalized wavefield and the model normalized wavefield. The methodology is applicable to any 3-D seismic problem, and damping may be easily included in the process.

Method and apparatus for common packet channel assignment

A method and device for initiating uplink data packet communication from a mobile device to a base station on a common packet channel is disclosed. The communication is initiated when the mobile device reads broadcast status of common packet channels, after which the mobile device sends an access preamble to the base station that is acknowledged by the base station, and then the mobile device sends a collision preamble which the base station answers with a matching collision response. If the base station's response to the collision preamble also includes a channel allocation message, then the base station begins uplink data packet communication on an allocated channel provided that the allocated channel previously had free broadcast status. However, if the base station's response to the collision preamble includes a channel allocation message designating channel(s) not previously having free broadcast status, then the mobile device's access attempt is aborted.

Correction of received signal and interference estimates

An apparatus and method are described in which a corrected signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) is determined in a cellular telephone receiver. First the estimated signal strength at the receiver is measured, then the estimated interference level is measured. The signal strength and the interference values are separately corrected in accordance with an algorithm. Thereafter, a corrected SIR value is obtained by dividing the corrected signal strength and the corrected interference values.

Dial plan generator

Telephone numbering comprising an NPA code associated with an NXX code that is associated with a rate center identifier is received at a dial plan instruction writer. Local call data relative to a home rate center is also received. The local call data determine whether a call originating in the home rate center is charged as local call, a toll call, or a long distance call. Routing rules to be applied to a called telephone number originating from the home rate center are determined based on the telephone numbering data and the local call data. Instructions executable by the telephone switch that implement the routing rules are generated.

Method and apparatus for time stamping data

The invention discloses a method and apparatus for time stamping data packets under controlled conditions. Embodiments of the invention eliminate or minimize the error, caused in existing applications, by the elapsed time between the moment of a data packet generation and a the transmission of the data packet. Embodiments of the invention insert an initial data value, in lieu of the time stamp, into the data packet. Embodiments of the invention delay time stamp insertion to just prior to data transmission. A time stamp is inserted in time stamp location, and using a set of correction equations, embodiments of the invention generate a final error checking value that is attached to the data packet. Embodiments of the invention insert a precision time stamp into the data packet and apply a correction to the error checking value. At the end of the processing of the data packet, the latter contains a time stamp that has been introduced with a high precision, and has a correct error checking value.

Method for attenuating low frequency noise in a dual-sensor seismic streamer

A calculated vertical velocity sensor signal is determined from a recorded pressure sensor signal. A constructed vertical velocity sensor signal is determined as a linear combination of the calculated vertical velocity sensor signal and a recorded vertical velocity sensor signal in dual-sensor seismic streamer data, using a mixture coefficient as a proportionality constant. An upgoing pressure wavefield component is determined as one half of a difference of the recorded pressure sensor signal and the constructed vertical velocity sensor signal, as a function of the mixture coefficient. An error in the upgoing pressure wavefield component is determined by propagating errors in the recorded pressure sensor signal and constructed vertical velocity sensor signal terms. A value of the mixture coefficient is determined that minimizes the error in the upgoing pressure wavefield component.

Method and apparatus for operating a neural network with missing and/or incomplete data

A neural network system is provided that models the system in a system model (12) with the output thereof providing a predicted output. This predicted output is modified or controlled by an output control (14). Input data is processed in a data preprocess step (10) to reconcile the data for input to the system model (12). Additionally, the error resulted from the reconciliation is input to an uncertainty model to predict the uncertainty in the predicted output. This is input to a decision processor (20) which is utilized to control the output control (14). The output control (14) is controlled to either vary the predicted output or to inhibit the predicted output whenever the output of the uncertainty model (18) exceeds a predetermined decision threshold, input by a decision threshold block (22). Additionally, a validity model (16) is also provided which represents the reliability or validity of the output as a function of the number of data points in a given data region during training of the system model (12). This predicts the confidence in the predicted output which is also input to the decision processor (20). The decision processor (20) therefore bases its decision on the predicted confidence and the predicted uncertainty. Additionally, the uncertainty output by the data preprocess block (10) can be utilized to train the system model (12).

Heart rate extraction using neural wavelet adaptive gain control and neural pattern processing

An improved heart rate monitor is provided that can detect and distinguish a heartbeat from an otherwise contaminated system with noise components potentially larger than the signal of interest. Embodiments of the inventive monitor have an amplification system that eliminates large noise components so as not to saturate the system during detection of a desired low amplitude signal. In embodiments the elimination of noise components is accomplished through wavelet decomposition, and the removal of undesired components including interference components during adaptive gain control (AGC), in addition to hunting algorithms which minimize the error with techniques such as neural network least mean squares type back propagation algorithms.

Adaptive signal latency control for communications systems signals

An apparatus and method for adaptively introducing a compensating signal latency related to a signal latency of a data symbol decision circuit. Adaptive timing control circuitry, including an interpolating mixer implemented as a tapped delay line with correlated tap coefficients, introduces a latency adaptively and substantially matching the latency of the data decision circuit for use within an adaptive equalizer, thereby minimizing the mean-squared error of such decision circuit. This adaptive latency is used in generating the feedback error signal which, in turn, can be used by the feedforward equalizer for dynamically adjusting its adaptive filter tap coefficients.

Digital controller for automatic rate detection and tracking of audio interface clocks

Systems and methods to achieve a digital audio interface having automatic rate detection and tracking of digital audio streams have been achieved. The system comprises a digital controller working in conjunction with an analog phase-locked loop (PLL). It removes the need to know or communicate in advance the rate at which the interface will be operating, so allowing asynchronous switching between different audio streams. The digital controller acts as a phase-lock loop by modifying the feedback divide ratio of the PLL in order to minimize the phase error between the device clock and an arbitrary audio interface clock.
