Processor aided firing of small arms

A digital processor aiming and firing system generates a trigger signal with electronic timing exactness, resulting in shooting accuracy unobtainable by humans. To achieve this, a view down the barrel sight is captured by a digital video camera and analyzed on a frame-by-frame basis by an electronic processor equipped with image identification software. Motion detectors attached to the weapon are used to interpolate the barrel position between frames. A motion history of the barrel position relative to the target is calculated and an extrapolation of the future position is made. When the anticipated barrel direction impinges on the target, corrected for motion and ballistic effects, the processor signals the launch of the projectile.

Transmission of the fixed size PDUs through the transparent RLC

Active and inactive segmentation states are defined for transparent mode for a radio access network (RAN) interfacing with a core network (CN) and a user equipment (UE). If transparent mode is valid on the Iu-interface between the RAN and the CN, then an inactive segmentation state indicates to peer (UE / RAN) segmentation and reassembly (SAR) entities such as at the radio link control (RLC) layer that segmentation is blocked in the UTRAN, over the Uu-interface, and in the UE so that TTIs with periodicities greater than the minimum transmission interval may be utilized, except over said Iu-interface.

Creation of snapshot copies using a sparse file for keeping a record of changed blocks

A snapshot copy facility responds to a request for writing new data to a block of a production dataset by saving original data of the block, and writing the new data to the block of the production dataset and keeping a record of the blocks of the production dataset have been changed since the point in time when the snapshot copy was created. For detection of corruption of the snapshot metadata and for portability of the snapshot copy software, a sparse file is used for keeping a record of the blocks of the production dataset that have been changed since the snapshot. For “copy on first write” snapshots, the sparse file is a “write once read many” (WORM) file to store old data of blocks. For “remap on write” snapshots, the sparse file is a “read-write” (RW) file to which writes to the production file are stored.

Method and apparatus for common packet channel assignment

A method and device for initiating uplink data packet communication from a mobile device to a base station on a common packet channel is disclosed. The communication is initiated when the mobile device reads broadcast status of common packet channels, after which the mobile device sends an access preamble to the base station that is acknowledged by the base station, and then the mobile device sends a collision preamble which the base station answers with a matching collision response. If the base station's response to the collision preamble also includes a channel allocation message, then the base station begins uplink data packet communication on an allocated channel provided that the allocated channel previously had free broadcast status. However, if the base station's response to the collision preamble includes a channel allocation message designating channel(s) not previously having free broadcast status, then the mobile device's access attempt is aborted.
