Signaling Network. A signaling network is a system that receives, processes, and distributes messages that control a system. A signaling network may be an independent communication system or it may share some or all of the resources of the communication system it controls. An example of a signaling network is the Signaling System 7 (SS7) network.

Voice over data telecommunications network architecture

The present invention describes a system and method for communicating voice and data over a packet-switched network that is adapted to coexist and communicate with a legacy PSTN. The system permits packet switching of voice calls and data calls through a data network from and to any of a LEC, a customer facility or a direct IP connection on the data network. The system includes soft switch sites, gateway sites, a data network, a provisioning component, a network event component and a network management component. The system interfaces with customer facilities (e.g., a PBX), carrier facilities (e.g., a LEC) and legacy signaling networks (e.g., SS7) to handle calls between any combination of on-network and off-network callers. The soft switch sites provide the core call processing for the voice network architecture. The soft switch sites manage the gateway sites in a preferred embodiment, using a protocol such as the Internet Protocol Device Control (IPDC) protocol to request the set-up and tear-down of calls. The gateway sites originate and terminate calls between calling parties and called parties through the data network. The gateway sites include network access devices to provide access to network resources. The data network connects one or more of the soft switch sites to one or more of the gateway sites. The provisioning and network event component collects call events recorded at the soft switch sites. The network management component includes a network operations center (NOC) for centralized network management.

Methods and systems for universal, automatic service selection in a telecommunications signaling network

Methods and systems for universal, automatic service selection are disclosed. A method for universal, automatic service selection includes receiving signaling messages and identifying signaling connection control part (SCCP) messages from the signaling messages. The SCCP messages are decoded to extract SCCP parameters and application layer parameters from the messages. A routing address translation service is selected for each of the SCCP messages based on application identifiers that identify application layer message types alone or in combination with other parameters. Selecting the routing address translation service in this manner makes the service selection more robust and universally applicable, especially in networks where different or non-standard selector parameters are utilized.

The invention provides compositions and methods for signal activated RNA interference (saRNAi), preferably in vivo. The invention provides polynucleotides that switches between an inactive form and an active form upon covalent or non-covalent interaction with one or more specific chemical signals, such as disease-specific mRNA, miRNA, or other cellular RNA products with sequences that characterize diseased states of the cell. The interaction between the subject polynucleotides and the signals is preferably mediated by hybridization, which exposes, facilitates the formation, and / or allows the formation of a substrate that can be processed by proteins of the RNAi pathway (such as Dicer). The input and output of multiple different polynucleotides of the invention can form an in vivo signaling network. In addition, the multiple input signals can be integrated to modulate the activity of the subject polynucleotides.

Smart and scalable urban signal networks: methods and systems for adaptive traffic signal control

ActiveUS20160042641A1Increase awarenessControlling traffic signalsSignaling networkSingle-machine scheduling
Scalable urban traffic control system has been developed to address current challenges and offers a new approach to real-time, adaptive control of traffic signal networks. The methods and system described herein exploit a novel conceptualization of the signal network control problem as a decentralized process, where each intersection in the network independently and asynchronously solves a single-machine scheduling problem in a rolling horizon fashion to allocate green time to its local traffic, and intersections communicate planned outflows to their downstream neighbors to increase visibility of future incoming traffic and achieve coordinated behavior. The novel formulation of the intersection control problem as a single-machine scheduling problem abstracts flows of vehicles into clusters, which enables orders-of-magnitude speedup over previous time-based formulations and is what allows truly real-time (second-by-second) response to changing conditions.

Arrangement for controlling congestion in an SS7 signaling node based on packet classification

A signaling network node is configured for identifying a received signaling message as belonging to one of a plurality of prescribed originating node groups, based on prescribed message class selection criteria. Each originating node group has at least one originating node and is assigned at least one congestion threshold relative to a message rate (e.g., messages per unit time or number of bytes per unit time). The signaling network node determines the message rate for each corresponding originating node group; if the message rate for an originating node group exceeds the corresponding at least one congestion threshold, the signaling network node outputs a congestion signaling message to the originating node having sent the signaling message, for reduction of the corresponding message rate.

Techniques for integrated routing of call circuit signaling and the internet protocol

Techniques for processing an IP packet at a router that supports SS7 signaling include receiving IP routing data that associates a network link and a destination IP address for a node in a signaling network that includes a plurality of signaling nodes. When an ingress IP data packet is received, it is determined whether conditions are satisfied for locally processing an SS7 payload within the ingress IP data packet. If it is determined that conditions are satisfied for locally processing the SS7 payload, then the SS7 payload is processed locally, i.e., without sending the SS7 payload over a network link to a different node in the signaling network. If it is determined that conditions are not satisfied for locally processing the SS7 payload, then the ingress IP data packet is routed normally. These techniques allow reduced numbers of expensive STP devices and expanded routing options in a signaling network.

System and method for implementing user-to-user data transfer services

A system and method for implementing user-to-user data transfer services utilizes an overlay network to transfer user-to-user data between users independent of communications between the users on a conventional signaling network. The system and method examines a frame of data received from a user to determine whether the frame contains user-to-user data. If the frame does contain user-to-user data, the user-to-user data is removed from the frame and formatted for transfer. The formatted user-to-user data is then transferred to the recipient via the overlay network, independently of the communication between the users on the signaling network.

System and method for power over ethernet signaling

Network communication cables that provide power, such as Ethernet cables in compliance with the Power over Ethernet standard, are secured so that unauthorized devices are restricted from receiving power. After a PoE connection is established between a powered device (PD) and power source equipment (PSE) over an Ethernet cable, the PD communicates security information to the PSE with low frequency variations in the current drawn by the PD through the Ethernet cable. The PSE terminates power to the PD if the PD fails to communicate the security information in a predetermined time period or if the security information fails to match authorized security information. Alternatively, the PSE generates an unauthorized device message for presentation at the network if the security information fails to match the authorized security information.
