High-frequency electrodeless fluorescent lamp

An electrodeless fluorescent lamp and fixture which operates at the frequency range of 50-1000 KHz and power from 20 to 200 W is disclosed. The lamp includes a bulbous envelope (1) filled with rare gas and metal vapor and a reentrant cavity (5). The inner walls of the envelope are coated with phosphor (2) and a protective coating (3). An induction coil (9), made from multiple strands of wire having very low resistance at frequencies below 1000 KHz, together with a ferrite core (10), having high permeability and low power losses, generates an inductively-coupled plasma in the envelope volume. The plasma generates visible and UV radiation that is converted into visible light by the phosphor coated on the envelope walls. A metallic cylinder (13), placed inside the ferrite core (10), removes the heat generated by the plasma from the coil and ferrite core and redirects the heat to the lamp base and thence to the lamp fixture. The power efficiency of the lamp operated at frequencies 200-300 KHz and its efficacy are the same as those in electrodeless RF lamps operated at frequencies of 2.65 MHz and at 13.56 MHz.

The coil driver circuitry comprises an electrical energy store configured to store the portion of the electrical energy released back from the inductance of each coil and the electrical energy provided to each coil of the stator teeth by the coil driver circuitry is augmented by the electrical energy stored in the electrical energy store.

Information recording apparatus and information recording method

Magnetic recording is performed by a magnetic field lower than a coercive force without considerably changing the structure of a magnetic head and the vicinity thereof. When recording is performed by applying a magnetic field to a magnetic recording layer of a recording medium using a magnetic head, the electric field is generated in the magnetic recording layer so that the coercive force thereof is decreased. Accordingly, magnetization is recorded by a lower magnetic field than an intrinsic coercive force of the magnetic recording layer. In order to generate the electric field, a power source is connected to magnetic pole layers of a longitudinal magnetic recording head (or to a magnet pole layer of a perpendicular magnetic recording head and a conductive layer of a recording medium thereof).

A superconducting magnet system for nuclear magnetic resonance with a high magnetic field and a high degree of homogeneity of magnetic field is provided. The system comprises a main coil and a magnetic field homogeneity compensating coil having a combination of a forward current and a reverse current, and is composed of 24 superconducting coils formed by winding NbTi / Cu low-temperature superconducting wires. The system can produce a magnetic field of 9.4 T within a room-temperature space of 800 mm and can obtain a degree of non-homogeneity of magnetic field less than 0.1 ppm within a spherical volume of 300 mm. The system is equipped with a superconducting magnet inside, and a low-temperature vessel for liquid helium provides a low-temperature environment of 4K which is required for the normal operation of the superconducting magnet. A ferro-magnetic shielding system enables the system to have a good electromagnetic compatibility.
