Methods and apparatus for treatment of patent foramen ovale (PFO) generally involve use of a catheter having at least one closure device at its distal end. In some embodiments, the catheter also includes one or more energy transmission members for delivering energy to the closure device(s) and to the tissue adjacent the PFO to induce closure of the PFO. Closure devices may comprise, for example, a bioresorbable matrix or a non-resorbable matrix. In some embodiments, the closure device contains particles dispersed within the closure device to increase conductance and/or to reduce resistance and/or impedance. An exemplary method involves advancing a catheter to position its distal end into the tunnel of the PFO and fixing the closure device within the tunnel of the patent foramen PFO.

A high efficiency heat transfer device utilizes carbon nanotube deposits that are formed directly on the outer surface of the device to replace conventional cooling fins. A catalyst is used to facilitate retention of the nanotubes on the device before they are deposited. In addition, the nanotubes are infused with a protective outer layer, such as silicon. The present invention relates to the design and composition of a depot implant for optimal delivery of growth factors to treat bone avascular necrosis, in that such depot implant is constructed to be in a cylinder (rod) or sphere shape and have a natural or synthetic polymer scaffold with or without impregnated calcium phosphate particles. The density of the depot is higher than a typical BMP sponge carrier to facilitate it's implantation and slower release of the growth factor. In addition, the shape of the depot implant allows for delivery through a cannula or large bore needle.

A new and improved pacifier including a novel nipple structure is disclosed. The nipple structure includes a short nipple that allows the tongue, during sucking and swallowing, to be naturally positioned adjacent to the hard palate. The nipple structure includes a thin and pliable web which extends beyond the tip of the nipple and, in use, is received between the tongue and the palate. Preferably, the web terminates near the mid-point, front to back, of the hard palate of a user. A method for packaging cotton sliver for efficient transport includes the steps of laying the sliver in a uniform-density pattern onto a bottom cap, placing a top cap on the sliver, applying pressure to the top and bottom caps to compress the sliver to a higher second density at which the compressed sliver is rigid, and strapping the compressed sliver and caps in order to form a rigid package for handling and transport.
