Device and method for spatially resolved photodetection and demodulation of modulated electromagnetic waves

A device and method for spatially resolved photodetection and demodulation of temporally modulated electromagnetic waves makes it possible to measure phase, amplitude and offset of a temporally modulated, spatially coded radiation field. A micro-optical element (41) spatially averages a portion (30) of the scene and equally distributes the averaged intensity on two photo sites (51.1.51.2) close to each other. Adjacent to each of these photo sites (51.1) are two storage areas (54.1, 54.2) into which charge from the photo site can be moved quickly (with a speed of several MHz to several tens or even hundreds of MHz) and accumulated essentially free of noise. This is possible by employing the charge-coupled device (CCD) principle. The device combines a high optical fill factor, insensitivity to offset errors, high sensitivity even with little light, simultaneous data acquisition, small pixel size, and maximum efficiency in use of available signal photons for sinusoidal as well as pulsed radiation signals. The device and method may be used in a time-of-flight (TOF) range imaging system without moving parts, offering 2D or 3D range data.

Cast on-board injection nozzle with adjustable flow area

A Tangential On-Board Injection (TOBI) nozzle or a Radial On-Board Injection (ROBI) nozzle with adjustable flow area in a gas turbine engine for directing a cooling air flow into a rotor assembly of the turbine is disclosed. The TOBI or ROBI nozzle is a unitary cast structure including a plurality of tangentially angled cooling air passages, a number of the passages being cast-closed. After a flow test is conducted using the TOBI or ROBI nozzle, one or more of the cast-closed passages may be selectively machined open if the mass flow of the TOBI or ROBI nozzle does not satisfy the design point. Therefore, the structure of the TOBI or ROBI nozzle is easily fabricated using a casting process with low manufacturing costs while the optimum cooling air flow is achieved by adjusting the total flow area of the TOBI or ROBI nozzle before it is installed to the gas turbine engine. Furthermore, the TOBI or ROBI nozzle is advantageously supported in a cantilevered manner to avoid the thermal stress caused by temperature differential. The adjustable flow area feature also enables the TOBI or ROBI nozzle to be broadly used in different types of engines, the required mass flow of which are various.

Surface light emitting device

A reflector 3 having a bottom section 4 and a slope section 13 surrounding the periphery of the bottom section 4 is provided, and an LED 5 is mounted on the center of the bottom section 4. A holder section 9 of a light control means 7 is detachably mounted to cover a lens 6 of the LED 5, while a circular plate section 18 of the light control means 7 is provided with a main reflecting section 11 and a reflecting transmission section 12. The main reflecting section 11 is designed to reduce the transmission amount from the LED 5, thereby causing most of the light to reflect on the reflector 3 side. On the other hand, the reflecting transmission section 12 permits a larger amount of transmission than in the main reflecting section 11. In this manner, it is possible to realize substantially uniform brightness in the entire upper section of the reflector 3 by the light transmitted through the main reflecting section 11 and the reflecting transmission section 12 and the light diffusely reflected from the reflector 3.

In one example, the base mounting surface is dome-shaped, with a convex curvature constructed to mate with the concave curvature of the camera mounting surface. The base part is mounted to a stable support, and the camera mounting surface brought near the base counting surface. The magnetic attractive forces pull the camera part firmly to the base part, thereby securely positioning and orienting the camera. However, the camera may be readily repositioned by pushing the camera into a new position. The size and shape of the complementary mounting surfaces may be selected according to positioning requirements.
