Tissue distraction device

An apparatus and method for distracting, in a given direction, and supporting two tissue surfaces is provided. A plurality of wafers are consecutively inserted using a wafer insertion apparatus between the two tissue surfaces to create a column of wafers. A detachable wafer assembly is provided that includes a base wafer initially associated with a track assembly of a wafer insertion apparatus. The base wafer is dislodged from the track assembly so that the base wafer is left within the distraction site as the track assembly is removed. A top cap wafer is provided that is situated at the top of the wafer stack, in which the top cap wafer is larger than the remaining wafers to form a gap surrounding the stack to receive biologic material.

MEMS microphone packages and fabrication methods thereof are disclosed. A MEMS microphone package includes a cavity that houses a MEMS sensing element, an IC chip and other passive elements supported by a common substrate. The cavity is formed by a top cover member, a housing wall surrounds and supports the top cover member and the common substrate supports the housing wall. A conductive casing encloses and surrounds the cavity, and is electrically connected to a common analog ground lead on a PCB board. The top cover member and the housing wall are non-conductive. And the conductive casing is not connected directly to the ground leads of the package. An acoustic absorption layer is sandwiched between the conductive casing and the cavity which is formed by the top cover member, the housing wall and the substrate.

Single automatic document feeder sensor for media leading edge and top cover being opened detection

A single plate flatbed scanner utilizing a single sensor to detect both opening of a lid covering the plate and the leading edge of an automatically fed document. The flatbed scanner includes a contact glass plate defining a flatbed scanning area where a document to be scanned may be manually positioned. An automatic document feeder (ADF) scan window where ADF-fed documents are scanned is defined within the flatbed scanning area. An image sensor is maintained at a fixed position in the ADF scan window while scanning ADF-fed documents. To scan a manually fed document, the image sensor moves under the flatbed scanning area so as to scan an image of the document. Since the ADF scan window and the flatbed scanning area both are defined in the same area of the contact glass plate, a document inadvertently left on the contact glass blocks the ADF scan window and prevents the scanning of an ADF fed document. A single sensor is utilized to detect the opening of the ADF which uncovers the contact glass to allow manual placement of a document. Detecting the opening of the glass plate cover is used to determine whether or not a document has been left on the glass plate after scanning. The same sensor is also utilized to detect the leading edge of an ADF fed document to initiate the scanning process at the precise time the document reaches the ADF scan window.

Optic fiber LED light source

An exterior lighting device based on a light emitting diode in conjunction with an optic fiber is disclosed. The device has a cylindrical housing having a closed end and an open end. The light emitting diode is placed on the interior of the on the closed end of the cylindrical housing. A clear lens having one end in proximity with the light emitting diode and an opposite end with a flat surface is provided. A top cap is installed over the open end of the cylindrical housing. The top cap forms a water tight seal with the cylindrical housing using O-rings. A retaining plate is held in place between the top cap and the cylindrical housing. The retaining plate is locked with the flat surface of the lens thus holding the lens in place over the light emitting diode. An optic fiber has a receiving end held by the retaining plate in proximity to the light emitting diode and an opposite emitting end extending from a socket in the top cap. A coupling assembly sits in the socket in the top cap and holds the optic fiber in relation to the top cap.

Outdoor cabinet for electrical components

A cabinet and associated method are provided for storage of electrical components. In one embodiment, the cabinet includes a chamber including a number of side walls and a top cap and a canted ceiling formed by the top cap. A first overhang portion is defined by a wide end of the top cap and a second overhang portion is defined by a narrow end of the top cap. A number of first air flow openings are located in the first overhang portion and a number of second air flow openings are located in the second overhang portion. The elevation of at least one of the first air flow openings is at least as great as an elevation of the second air flow openings.

The container has a spring-loaded push rod unit mounted movably thereon. The push rod unit has a bottom rod section associated with the press button of the contact switch unit, and a top rod section depressible by a switch actuating block of the top cover so as to move the push rod unit against biasing action from a deactivating position to an activating position.

Medication dispenser

A device for enabling a patient to have ready access to a daily dosage of medication placed in compartments at predetermined time periods and wherein the compartments are only accessible to the patient at predetermined time periods. The device comprises an annular plate member having a plurality of medicine receiving compartments formed adjacent the periphery thereof. Specific dosages in the form of capsules or pills are sequentially placed in selected compartments. In a preferred mode, up to four compartments are loaded in sequence to provide one dosage, up to four sequences of four compartments allowing four daily dosages to be provided. An annular top cover member is positioned over the plate member, the cover member including a window or door. The annular compartment containing member is controlled in a manner such that a selected compartment is positioned at a location under the window. When the window is so located, an alarm is energized to alert the patient that the dosage in that compartment is available for use. When the door is opened, the alarm is deactivated. An indexing mechanism is provided to rotate the plate member so that the adjacent compartment is rotated beneath the window. As the plate member is rotated, the window is automatically shut before the alarm for the next compartment is energized. A locking member is provided so that only the health provider can have access to all the compartments and thus determine if the patient has complied with the specified dosage regimen.

Device for cell separation and analysis and method of using

A microflow device for separating or isolating cells from a bodily fluid or other liquid sample uses a flow path where straight-line flow is interrupted by a pattern of transverse posts which are arranged across the width of a collection region in an irregular or set random pattern so as to disrupt streamlined flow. Sequestering agents, such as Abs, are attached to all surfaces in the collection region via a hydrophilic permeable hydrogel coating. The collection region is formed as a cavity in a body molded from PDMS, which flexible body is sandwiched between a glass slide or comparable flat plate and a rigid top cap plate, both of which are pressed into abutting relation with the PDMS body by a heat-shrunk polymeric sleeve. Following cell separation and washing, cells can be released from the sequestering agents and the device centrifuged to force said cells to collect adjacent the hydrogel-coated slide or plate. Slitting the polymeric sleeve allows the body to then be peeled from the slide or plate, using an integral tab, to expose the separated cells on the top surface thereof for ready microscopic examination.

Golf club grip with a hem structure

A golf club grip includes a sleeve body having a top cap and a bottom protective rim, and an anti-slip sheet layer extending around the sleeve body between the cap and the protective rim. The sheet layer has a top circumferential margin which is hidden and hemmed by the cap. The sheet layer further includes two axial margin which extend near to each other and which are hemmed by an axial hem structure of the sleeve body. The axial hem structure extends from the cap to the protective rim to receive and hem the axial margins. As the margins of the sheet layer are hemmed and finished by the cap, the protective rim and the axial hem structure, no visible clearance is formed in the golf club grip.

Portable baby bottle blender

A portable baby bottle blender includes a baby bottle having a top collar with external threads and a bottom collar with external threads. A top cap has a central aperture. The top cap is internally threaded to be removable threaded onto the top collar of the baby bottle and holds a feeding nipple extending through the central aperture of the top cap onto the top collar. A sealing O-ring fits onto the bottom collar of the baby bottle. A bottom cap has a rim internally threaded. An agitating unit is centrally retained within the bottom cap. When the rim of the bottom cap is removably threaded onto the bottom collar of the baby bottle and against the sealing O-ring, the agitating unit extends into the bottom collar of the baby bottle. A base member has a top recess to receive the bottom cap on the baby bottle therein. A spur-crown gear coupling is for operating the agitating unit, so that the mixing blade assembly mixes formula within water placed through the top collar of the baby bottle.

Wick-based liquid emanation system with child-resistant overcap

A child-resistant, wick-based liquid emanation system includes a container which is capable of containing liquid and has an opening. A wick is partially disposed within the container and extends through the opening of the container. A hollow overcap encases the extended portion of the wick and has a closed, separable tip and an open base attached to cover the opening of the container. The system is activated by separating the tip from the overcap. A retainer may be provided for obstructing complete removal of the wick from the container through the overcap after the tip is separated from the overcap. The retainer can include a shoulder disposed in the overcap between the tip and the base to retain the wick toward the base of the overcap. Alternatively, a protrusion from the wick can engage an inner surface of the overcap or the container. In this case, the overcap can have a frangible portion facilitating separation of the tip, and the wick can extend past the frangible portion toward the tip.

Interposing structure

A capacitive interposer (caposer) is disposed inside an integrated circuit package between a die and an inside surface of the package. Conductive layers within the caposer constitute a bypass capacitor. In a through-hole caposer, micro-bumps on the die pass through through-holes in the caposer and contact corresponding landing pads on the package. As they pass through the caposer, power and ground micro-bumps make contact with the plates of the bypass capacitor. In a via caposer, power and ground micro-bumps on the die are coupled to power and ground landing pads on the package as well as to the plates of the bypass capacitor by power and ground vias that extend through the caposer. In signal redistribution caposer, conductors within the caposer redistribute signals between die micro-bumps and package landing pads. In an impedance matching caposer, termination structures within the caposer provide impedance matching to a printed circuit board trace.

Design of wet/wet differential pressure sensor based on microelectronic packaging process

Method and system for a wet / wet differential pressure sensor based on microelectronic packaging process. A top cap with a hole can be attached to a topside of a MEMS-configured pressure sense die with a pressure sensing diaphragm in order to allow sensed media to come in contact with the topside of the pressure sensing diaphragm. An optional constraint with a hole for stress relief can be attached to a backside of the pressure sense die. Adhesive and / or elastomeric seals and / or solder can be utilized to seal the pressure sense die allowing sensed media to come in contact with both sides of the pressure sensing diaphragm without coming into contact with wirebonds and other metallized surfaces. The MEMS-configured pressure sense die can also be bonded to a substrate with standard die attach materials. Such microelectronic packaging processes yield a high performance and cost effective solution thereby providing wet-wet pressure sensing capability.

Pneumatic pogo stick

A pneumatic pogo stick is comprised of an elongate cylindrical housing which forms a cylinder. The housing is formed from a clear polycarbonate plastic. A top cap is attached to one end of the housing to form the top of an air chamber. A plastic piston, slidable within the cylinder, forms the bottom of the air chamber. An elongate shaft is coupled to the bottom of the piston and is moveable therewith, extending from the distal end of said housing as the piston moves within the cylinder. A bottom bracket assembly is attached to the bottom of the housing and a bushing for maintaining the lateral position of the shaft relative to the housing is attached to the bottom bracket assembly. The bushing prevents the shaft from rotating relative to the housing. User foot supports are also attached to the bottom bracket for supporting the feet of the user and handle bars are attached to the top cap for grasping with the hands of a user.
