Autonomous Space Flight System and Planetary Lander for Executing a Discrete Landing Sequence to Remove Unknown Navigation Error, Perform Hazard Avoidance and Relocate the Lander and Method

An autonomous unmanned space flight system and planetary lander executes a discrete landing sequence including performing an initial velocity braking maneuver to remove velocity at altitude, coasting during which the planet surface is imaged and correlated to reference maps to estimate cross-track and along-track navigation errors and one or more lateral braking maneuvers are performed to reduce cross-track navigation error, and performing a terminal velocity braking maneuver(s) to reduce the along-track braking maneuver and remove the remainder of the velocity just prior to landing. A bi-propellant propulsion system provides a very high T / M ratio, at least 15:1 per nozzle. Short, high T / M divert maneuvers provide the capability to remove cross-track navigation error efficiently up to the maximum resolution of the reference maps. Short, high T / M terminal velocity braking maneuver(s) provide the capability to remove along-track navigation error to a similar resolution and remove the remaining velocity in a very short time window, approximately 3-15 seconds prior to touchdown. The propulsive efficiency frees up mass which can be allocated to a fuel to remove the unknown navigation errors, perform hazard avoidance and / or relocate the lander by flying it to another site or be allocated to additional payload.

GPS position tracking method with variable updating rate for power conservation

A system and method in which the position update rate is adaptively modified, based on previous position measurements. By adjusting the update rate based on velocity predictions from two or more position fixes, a lower update rate may be used without exceeding the maximum error. Lowering the update rate reduces power consumption in the UE, providing longer battery operation. The updating method may comprise periodically repeating the velocity prediction and periodically adjusting the update rate responsive thereto. The update rate may be adjusted using additional information such as an acceleration prediction, a minimum update rate, or a preferred error. In some embodiments a model for user movement may be used to provide more accurate predictions, for example, stationary, walking, jogging, city driving, and freeway driving. The updating method may comprise receiving user input regarding the maximum position error.

Wireless localization method based on an efficient multilateration algorithm over a wireless sensor network and a recording medium in which a program for the method is recorded

A wireless localization technology using efficient multilateration in a wireless sensor network is disclosed. After calculating estimated distances from each of at least three reference nodes to a blind node using received signal strength of wireless signals that the at least three reference nodes received from the blind node, the estimated location of the blind node is obtained through multilateration using the calculated estimated distances. To correct error in the estimated location, the estimated distances are used, and the error correction direction and error correction distance for the estimated location are calculated by applying a largest weight to the reference node closest to the estimated location. The error of the estimated location is corrected by move the estimated location of the blind node by the calculated error correction direction and error correction distance. Calculation for the error correction is very simple and fast.

Power controlling method based on DwPTS

A power-control method base on Downlink Piloting Time Slot (DwPTS) in a mobile communication system. While a terminal is being accessed randomly, the terminal determines the transmitting signal power at Uplink Piloting Time Slot (UpPTS) for open-loop power control by using broadcast information and the measured DwPTS power. While the communications are being maintained, the base station notifies the terminal of the required receiving power, the terminal then calculates the transmitting power for open-loop power control by using the measured DwPTS power, which is taken as the reference transmission power of the uplink channel and compared with the actual transmitting power required by the base station for closed-loop power control; the difference of the comparison is in turn compared with a threshold, if the difference is larger than the threshold, sum of the reference transmission power and the threshold is used as the power to perform transmission, otherwise, the closed-loop power control command is keeping executed. By taking the advantage of the TDD mode in which the uplink and downlink transmissions are, carried out in the same conditions, the method makes full use of open-loop power control which has the merits of being simple and accurate so that complex outer-loop power control is not needed in closed-loop power control, making the RNC simpler and the system more stable. hi addition, since it is the DwPTS power that is measured in the power control, the accuracy of power control is greatly improved.
