Energy dissipating helmet utilizing stress-induced active material activation

An energy dissipating helmet, such as a football, baseball, hockey, construction, combat, bicycle, or motorcycle helmet, including a structural component adapted to receive an anticipatory impact having energy, and a stress-activated active material element, such as a Austenitic shape memory alloy wire, mesh, layer, or spring, communicatively coupled to the component, and activatable by the impact, so as to dissipate at least a portion of the energy.

The invention relates to methods of modulating immune cells in a patient by altering microbiota of the patient. The invention also relates to methods of modulating treatments or therapies in a subject organism by altering microbiota of the subject. The invention also relates to cell populations, systems, arrays, cells, RNA, kits and other means for effecting this. In an example, advantageously selective targeting of a particular species in a human gut microbiota using guided nucleic acid modification is carried out to effect the alteration.

A work station comprises a base. A seat and a tower are each cooperatively connected to the base thereby providing an adjustable interaction between the seat and the tower. The tower supports a keyboard support and the seat has an armrest for supporting an occupant. At least one armrest adjustment device is disposed between the seat and the armrest and is moveable between an unlocked position to allow for adjustment of the armrest relative to the seat to an ergonomically correct position relative to the keyboard support and to a locked position to lock the armrest in the ergonomically correct position. An armrest lever is operatively connected to the at least one armrest adjustment device to move the at least one armrest adjustment device between the unlocked position and the locked position.

Direct user plane tunnel delivery of broadcast and multicast traffic

The establishment and reception of a service, such as a multimedia service, over different networks is described. A first and second network coupled by a home gateway may respectively employ first and second radio access technologies. An interface between the radio access technologies may communicate downlink channel setup requests. Uplink and downlink control signals are communicated via a first network. In response to the exchange of uplink and downlink control signals via a first network, multimedia data is received via the second network.

Silicon wafer, its manufacturing method, and its manufacturing apparatus

The production yield about defect free devices is improved by so controlling the size and density of void defects that they are under predetermined levels without marring the productivity. The pull-up speed V of a silicon crystal (10) by a pull-up mechanism (4) is controlled, and the rate of cooling by a cooler (30) is also controlled. As a result, the axial temperature gradient G1 at and near the melting point of the silicon crystal (10) is increased. The growth condition V / G1 is lowered to a temperature near the critical value under the condition that the growth rate V lies in the range from 97% to 75% of the limit rate Vmax and that the solid-liquid interface is convex with respect to the melt surface. Thus a silicon crystal (10) is grown by pulling up.

Fracturing tool having tubing isolation system and method

A formation treatment tool assembly is conveyed within a well casing by a tubing string and has a housing defining treatment fluid supply and discharge passages and a fluid injection port through which treatment fluid is directed from the supply passage into a packer isolated casing interval and a fluid inlet port permitting flow from the isolated casing interval to the fluid discharge passage. Spaced straddle packer elements of the tool are energized to establish sealing engagement with the well casing and define an isolated casing interval and are de-energized to retract from sealing engagement with the well casing and permit tubing conveyance. A dump valve connected with the tool housing is opened to permit flow of treatment fluid from the isolated casing interval through the treatment fluid discharge passage and is closed to confine treatment fluid to the isolated casing interval. A hydraulic or mechanically actuated tubing isolation valve is selectively closed to isolate the tubing string from casing or formation pressure and permit tool conveyance while maximizing the service life of the tubing string and to accommodate overpressured and underbalanced reservoir conditions.

Relay apparatus, relay method, and relay program

A relay apparatus 1 includes: a priority table 14 for storing a higher priority transmission identifier and transmission condition data; a bandwidth management part 12 for determining whether or not a received transmission identifier should be recorded in the priority table 14 as a higher priority transmission identifier; a priority control part 16 for relaying the transmission identified by the higher priority transmission identifier by priority; a monitoring part 11 for monitoring a transmission condition of the wireless terminals 2a, 2b and storing a value indicating a degree of degradation of the transmission condition as transmission condition data in the priority table 14; and a lower priority transmission identifying part 15 for selecting a transmission with a higher degree of degradation of a transmission condition as a lower priority transmission in the case where a total bandwidth in use for transmissions indicated by the higher priority transmission identifiers exceeds a predetermined threshold value. The priority control part 16 relays the transmissions other than the lower priority transmission, by priority compared with the lower priority transmission. This makes it possible to stably and efficiently utilize a limited bandwidth available for a transmission between a relay apparatus and a wireless terminal.

Trigger for packing path computation requests

A technique triggers packing of path computation requests (PCRs) for traffic engineering (TE) label switched paths (LSPs) that are sent from one or more label-switched routers (LSRs) to a path computation element (PCE) of a computer network. According to the novel technique, incoming PCRs are packed into sets in response to a certain event, and one or more TE-LSPs (paths) are computed for each PCR of a particular set based on the PCRs of that set. Specifically, the PCE detects an event in the network (“network event”) indicating that an increase in the number of incoming PCRs has occurred, or that an increase is likely to occur due to, e.g., a change in a network element. Once the net-work event has been detected, the PCE packs the incoming PCRs into configured-length sets, such as, e.g., for a specified time interval or a certain number of PCRs. The PCE computes paths for each PCR of a particular set while considering the other PCRs of that set, thereby reducing race conditions, signaling overhead, and set-up failures.
