Method and apparatus for efficient handling of product return transactions

A method and apparatus for efficient handling of product returns to reduce associated costs. A computer system at a regional product return center scans a returned product for identifying information, accesses a manufacturer return approval computer system through the internet or the like, and then submits the identifying information to the manufacturer for return approval. The manufacturer computer system utilizes the identifying information to access an electronic registration database to determine whether the returned product satisfies applicable return criteria. If so, the product is approved for return to the manufacturer. The regional product return center preferably scans a plurality of returned products in a single session. In response to the product identifying information submitted by the regional product return center, the manufacturer provides a list of approved returns and unapproved returns, along with a return authorization number for the batch of approved returns. The regional product return center then assembles the approved product returns into a box, shipping pallet, or the like, applies a label indicating the return authorization label, and ships the batch to the manufacturer. Shipping costs can be saved by omitting rejected product returns from the shipment. The manufacturer can handle the approved product returns from the regional return center as a batch, thereby reducing costs.

Apparatus and method for providing server state and attribute management for multiple-threaded voice enabled web applications

An application server generates and maintains a server-side data record, also referred to as a “brownie”, that includes application state information and user attribute information for multiple users within a single session controlled by a web-based browser. The brownie includes a session identifier that uniquely identifies the session, and a subsession identifier that uniquely identifies each corresponding user of the application session. As each new user is added to the session, for example by initiating a call to the new user, the application server stores the subsession identifier and corresponding application state information for the new user in the same brownie. In response to receiving a second web page request from the browser that includes the session identifier, the application server initiates a new web application instance, and recovers the brownie from the memory based on the session identifier included in the second page request.

Few seconds beam on time, breathing synchronized image guided all fields simultaneous radiation therapy combined with hyperthermia

This invention relates to single session image guided all field simultaneous radiation therapy combined with hyperthermia. Hyperthermia renders the radiation resistant cells as more radiation sensitive cells. The high and super-high dose rate radiation greatly improves the RBE of the photon radiation. It also minimizes photon radiation therapy's OER and cell cycle dependent tumor cell kill by minimizing the repair capacity of cell after photon radiation. Single session hyperthermia and radiation therapy overcomes the thermotolerance-associated inefficiency of hyperthermia treatment as it is when hyperthermia is combined with fractionated, lower dose rate radiation. The synergetic effects of sublethal damage repair inhibiting single session hyperthermia-combined with high dose and dose rate single session radiation therapy, and combined chemotherapy brings the photon radiation therapy's tumor cure and control capabilities closer to high LET radiation therapy.

System and method for single session sign-on

A method and system for cross-system authentication or credentialing of clients. Credentials from one system (e.g., system 2) are placed on a client, such as with a cookie on a browser, and the credentials are then extracted by another system (e.g., system 1), and used by system 1 to impersonate the client to system 2. If the client's credentials with system 2 are valid, system 2 provides that information to system 1 (which is impersonating the client), and system 1 uses the validity of the credentials from system 2 to grant the client access to protected resources on system 1.

Kilovoltage delivery system for radiation therapy

A small tabletop stationary five-degree of freedom device such as a “robot” is used to define the treatment region by tracing the region under direct visualization and then to precisely deliver the treatment plan created by an automatic planning system by positioning a single low energy radiation source, or a plurality of low energy sources connected to each other in a predetermined parallel or similar geometry, each source equipped with blocking and attenuation mechanisms, at a plurality of positions in a planar fashion across or through a selected treatment field, thereby delivering a plurality of parallel overlapping beams indexed on a millimeter or submillimeter grid such that a concentration of dose is achieved at a variable depth in tissue relative to the dose where the radiation first enters the tissue and can be used to treat regions on or below the surface of tissue, in a cavity and underlying region created following a surgical resection, on or below the surface of an internal cavity, hollow viscus, or lumen, or deep in tissue adjacent to an inserted probe or conduit or catheter. By generating a plurality of overlapping beams indexed on a millimeter or submillimeter grid that converge on a target volume loaded with gold nanoparticles, a tumorcidal dose of radiation can be delivered in as little as a single session to tumor cells but not to normal cells within or outside the treatment volume. This approach also makes it possible to deliver serial radiosurgical treatments.

On-Demand Multi-Channel Streaming Session Over Packet-Switched Networks

An aggregation procedure for aggregating of a number of session descriptions parameters corresponding to a multitude of channels into one single session description. Each channel is described by a mandatory unique identifier. A corresponding client application processes the SDP describing the channel bundle and uses the found information for allowing a user to switch to a channel associated with a certain identifier. Signaling of a channel switch control unit, which is part of the multi-channel streaming server, receives a multitude of RTP flows and selects one of the flows for forwarding to the client. A switching point determination is a part of the channel switch control unit and determines the next possible point of time for switching to a requested channel. The client application receives time information for the switch point in response to a channel switch request.

Server-side session management

The invention relates to the backup of a user session on a network. When the user at a client, such as an ISP, makes a request on the network, this request is routed by a load balancer to a primary host server on the network. The selection of the server is done by the load balancer in such a manner as to distribute the load on the system evenly and prevent overloading of one particular server. Once the user request has been routed, user specific information such as a session identification code or a password is provided to the primary host server and the session is set up. A single session must comprise of at least one application process on the selected primary host server. On commencement of the session, the load balancer designates at least one other server on the network to act as primary backup server for the user session set up on the primary host server. The primary backup server stores session information from the primary host server and in case of a server breakdown, the backup server takes over as the primary server. The load balancer then configures another server to act as backup server for this new primary server. According to the invention, the backup function of the servers is equitably distributed across servers so as to ensure that no one server is excessively burdened with the backup functions.

Wireless subscriber terminal programming using a broadcast control channel

The invention is a system for programming wireless subscriber terminals (WST's) using a broadcast channel of a wireless communication system. In accordance with the invention, a control program, for controlling operation of the WST, is updated using a series of messages transmitted from a base station over a broadcast control channel to one or more WST's simultaneously. Each message in the series contains a segment of the control program, and the series of messages is interleaved with other control data on the broadcast control channel in order to avoid interference with other call activities. When a WST identifies a message as containing a control program segment, the WST stores the segment. Once a complete control program has been received, control of the WST can be transferred to the new control program. Receipt of the broadcast transmission is subject to interruption for a variety of reasons, e.g., a WST is powered off, a WST moves outside the range of a base station, other radio signals or noise interfere with the broadcast signal, or a call is received by a WST, which then transfers to a voice channel. Thus the base station arbitrates the re-transmission of missing program segments by polling individual WST's using control channels, and retransmitting missing segments. The system also preferably provides non-volatile storage of a partial program within each WST so that the WST's need not receive an entire program in a single session.

Method of improving security performance in stateful inspection of TCP connections

Disclosed herein is a method of improving a security performance in a stateful inspection of TCP connections. In the security performance improvement method, a stateful inspection computer, placed between first and second hosts in which TCP connections are set up, creates a single session entry corresponding to a new SYN packet whenever the new SYN packet is generated between the first and second hosts. A state of connection progress is updated whenever a packet for a flow between the first and second hosts arrives at the stateful inspection computer. It is determined whether a time required for the updated connection progress has exceeded a predetermined timeout. Further, a session entry in an embryonic connection stage exceeding the timeout is purged. Accordingly, the present invention is advantageous in that it efficiently uses the memory of a stateful inspection computer, maintains lookup performance, and continues stateful inspection even in the face of network attacks, thus improving security performance of the stateful inspection computer.
