2619 results about "Retransmission" patented technology

Retransmission, essentially identical with Automatic repeat request (ARQ), is the resending of packets which have been either damaged or lost. Retransmission is one of the basic mechanisms used by protocols operating over a packet switched computer network to provide reliable communication (such as that provided by a reliable byte stream, for example TCP).

Time monitoring of packet retransmissions during soft handover

The present invention relates to a method for scheduling data retransmissions, a method for use in a data retransmission scheme and a method for updating a soft buffer of a base station in a mobile communication system during a soft-handover. The present invention relates to a base station executing the controlling and updating method, a communication terminal for executing the scheduling method and to a mobile communication system comprising at least one the base station and communication terminal. To prevent erroneous combining of data packets in a packet retransmission scheme at the receiver, the present invention provides a method that may flush the soft bufferregion associated to areceived data packet upon its correct reception. Further, a method is provided that monitors the time elapsed since the last storing of a data packet in a buffer region of a base station to be able to trigger the flush of the buffer region upon expiry of a threshold time period.

Mesh network of intelligent devices communicating via powerline and radio frequency

Low-cost intelligent control and communication devices are arranged to communicate with one another over one or more shared physical media, such as a powerline or a radio frequency band. No network controller is needed, because any device can act as a master, slave, or repeater. Adding more devices makes the system more robust, by virtue of a simple protocol for communication retransmissions and retries.

Upon receiving an acknowledgement after retransmission of a data segment, an acknowledgement number contained in the acknowledgement is compared with an acknowledgment number expected to be contained in an acknowledgement pertaining to the retransmitted data segment. When the former is larger than the latter, it is determined that the acknowledgement pertains to a data segment that was originally transmitted.

Method and transmitter for an efficient packet data transfer in a transmission protocol with repeat requests

In a method for the transmission of data packets (D) from a transmitter (TR) to a receiver (RE) identification of transmitted data packets are stored. Defective data packets (D) are detected by the receiver (RE), status messages (S) which request defective data packets for retransmission are sent from the receiver (RE) to the transmitter (TR) and retransmissions of requested data packets are performed according to the status messages (S). The transmitter (TR) evaluates a first status message (S11) with an identification of at least one first requested data packet and retransmits the first data packet. The transmitter (TR) then initializes a timing unit according to the retransmission of the first data packet, wherein the timing unit or a threshold for the timing unit is attributable to the first data packet. When the transmitter evaluates a further status message (S12) and detects at least one further data packet that is requested for a retransmission, it selects the further data packet if the timing unit has reached the threshold or if the identification of the further data packet is different from the identification of the first data packets. Only the selected data packets are retransmitted. A transmitter and software programs embodying the invention are also described.

System and method for multi-point HSDPA communication utilizing a multi-link PDCP sublayer

A method and apparatus for wireless communication may provide a multi-link PDCP sublayer (710) in a radio network controller (702) capable of allocating PDCP PDUs among a plurality of RLC entities (712) for use in a multi -point HSDPA network. Some aspects of the disclosure address issues relating to out-of-order delivery of the PDCP PDUs to a UE (610), such as unnecessary retransmissions. That is, the disclosed multi-link PDCP (710) may be capable of distinguishing between sequence number gaps that are caused by physical layer transmission failures and those caused merely by skew.

Unified transmission scheme for media stream redundancy

In one embodiment, a network session is established for transmitting a media stream. The media stream is encoded into a first set of media stream packets and the first set of media stream packets transmitted according to the established network session. The media stream is also encoded into a second set of retransmission-based repair packets and used as a second redundant copy of the media stream. The second set of retransmission packets are transmitted regardless of receiving any indication of lost or dropped packets during the network session.

Systems and methods for error resilience in video communication systems

Systems and methods for error resilient transmission and for random access in video communication systems are provided. The video communication systems are based on single-layer, scalable video, or simulcast video coding with temporal scalability, which may be used in video communication systems. A set of video frames or pictures in a video signal transmission is designated for reliable or guaranteed delivery to receivers using secure or high reliability links, or by retransmission techniques. The reliably-delivered video frames are used as reference pictures for resynchronization of receivers with the transmitted video signal after error incidence and for random access.

Gang migration of virtual machines using cluster-wide deduplication

Gang migration refers to the simultaneous live migration of multiple Virtual Machines (VMs) from one set of physical machines to another in response to events such as load spikes and imminent failures. Gang migration generates a large volume of network traffic and can overload the core network links and switches in a datacenter. In this paper, we present an approach to reduce the network overhead of gang migration using global deduplication (GMGD). GMGD identifies and eliminates the retransmission of duplicate memory pages among VMs running on multiple physical machines in the cluster. The design, implementation and evaluation of a GMGD prototype is described using QEMU / KVM VMs. Evaluations on a 30-node Gigabit Ethernet cluster having 10 GigE core links shows that GMGD can reduce the network traffic on core links by up to 65% and the total migration time of VMs by up to 42% when compared to the default migration technique in QEMU / KVM. Furthermore, GMGD has a smaller adverse performance impact on network-bound applications.

Embedded system capable of upgrading software on line and online upgrading method

The invention discloses an embedded system capable of upgrading software on line and an online upgrading method. The system comprises an embedded terminal, and a remote master station, a short range master station and a local master station which can respectively transmit data with the embedded terminal, wherein the embedded terminal comprises a master control chip, a program memory, a data memory, a remote communication interface and a local/close communication interface; the program memory of the embedded terminal is divided into a region A and a region B which have equal structures, when the master station transmits a software package to the embedded terminal, a bootstrap process of a system of the embedded terminal is sequentially performed from the region A to the region B in turn, and a bootstrap region is converted when the software of the system is upgraded each time; and double backups of system program are saved in the program memory, and if the upgrading process is failed, the system program can be recovered from a region in which the system program is successfully started last time. By the method, various abnormal situations in the online upgrading process can be effectively identified, and corresponding measures are taken for repair, such as error retransmission, resume from break point, invalid abandon or failure recovery, so that the correctness and robustness of online upgrading can be ensured.

Control channel signaling using a common signaling field for transport format and redundancy version

The invention relates to a method for providing control signalling associated to a protocol data unit conveying user data in a mobile communication system and to the control channel signal itself. Furthermore, the invention also provides a mobile station and a base station and their respective operation in view of the newly defined control channel signals defined herein. In order to reduce the control channel overhead, the invention suggests defining a common field for the transport format and redundancy version in the control channel information format. According to one approach, the common field is used to jointly encode transport format and redundancy version therein. According to another aspect, one shared field is provided on the control channel signal that indicates either a transport format or a redundancy version depending of whether the control channel signal relates to an initial transmission or a retransmission. In another embodiment, further enhancements to a HARQ protocol are suggested for addressing certain error cases.
