Methods and systems for a mobile, broadband, routable internet

In embodiments of the present invention improved capabilities are described for a mobile broadband routable internet (MBRI) providing for carrier-grade, networked, broadband, IP-routable communication among a plurality of mobile devices, where the mobile devices may represent a plurality of nodes that are linked together through a mobile ad-hoc network (MANET). Mobile devices may operate as peers in a peer-to-peer network, with full IP routing capabilities enabled within each mobile device, thereby allowing routing of IP-based traffic, including deployment of applications, to the mobile device without need for infrastructure conventionally required for mobile ad hoc networks, such as cellular telephony infrastructure. Full IP-routing to mobile devices may allow seamless integration to the fixed Internet, such as through fixed or mobile access points, such as for backhaul purposes. Thus, the MBRI may function as a standalone mobile Internet, without connection to the fixed Internet, or as an IP-routable extension of another network, whether it be the Internet, a local area network, a wide area network, a cellular network, a personal area network, or some other type of network that is capable of integration with an IP-based network.

Multiple ACK windows providing congestion control in reliable multicast protocol

A multicast repair tree is established, the repair tree having one sender station and a plurality of repair head stations. A repair head station has an affiliated group of member stations. A repair head station retransmits a lost message to its affiliated group of member stations upon receipt from a member station of a NACK message indicating that the selected message was not received. Acknowledgment windows (ACK windows) are established in a member station for transmission of ACK or NACK message by the member station. A number of messages transmitted by the sender station during a transmission window is established. Also a same size of ACK window is established in the receiving stations, with a slot in the ACK window corresponding to each message transmitted by the repair head station. Each receiving station is assigned a slot in the ACK window during which time that receiving station transmits its ACK or NACK messages. Thus the ACK window slots assigned to receiver stations for transmission of ACK / NACK windows are staggered so that different receiver stations transmit their ACKNACK messages at different times. The slot for a particular receiver station to use may be assigned by a random process.

Failover mechanisms in RDMA operations

In remote direct memory access transfers in a multinode data processing system in which the nodes communicate with one another through communication adapters coupled to a switch or network, failures in the nodes or in the communication adapters can produce the phenomenon known as trickle traffic, which is data that has been received from the switch or from the network that is stale but which may have all the signatures of a valid packet data. The present invention addresses the trickle traffic problem in two situations: node failure and adapter failure. In the node failure situation randomly generated keys are used to reestablish connections to the adapter while providing a mechanism for the recognition of stale packets. In the adapter failure situation, a round robin context allocation approach is used with adapter state contexts being provided with state information which helps to identify stale packets. In another approach to handling the adapter failure situation counts are assigned which provide an adapter failure number to the node which will not match a corresponding number in a context field in the adapter, thus enabling the identification of stale packets.
