73 results about "Mitotic nucleus" patented technology

Mitosis is part of the cycle of cell division. The chromosomes of a cell are copied to make two identical sets of chromosomes, and the cell nucleus divides into two identical nuclei. Before mitosis, the cell creates an identical set of its own genetic information – this is called replication.

Method and system for morphology based mitosis identification and classification of digital images

A method and system for morphology based mitosis identification and classification of digital images. Luminance parameters such as intensity, etc. from a digital image of a biological sample (e.g., tissue cells) to which a chemical compound (e.g., a marker dye) has been applied are analyzed and corrected if necessary. Morphological parameters (e.g., size, elongation ratio, parallelism, boundary roughness, convex hull shape, etc.) from individual components within the biological sample are analyzed. A medical conclusion (e.g., type and count of mitotic cells) or a life science and biotechnology experiment conclusion is determined from the analyzed luminance and morphological parameters. The method and system may be used to develop applications for automatically obtaining a medical diagnosis (e.g., a carcinoma diagnosis).

A method for the automated analysis of digital images, particularly for the purpose of assessing mitotic activity from images of histological slides for prognostication of breast cancer. The method includes the steps of identifying the locations of objects within the image which have intensity and size characteristics consistent with mitotic epithelial cell nuclei, taking the darkest 10% of those objects, deriving contours indicating their boundary shape, and smoothing and measuring the curvature around the boundaries using a Probability Density Association Filter (PDAF). The PDAF output is used to compute a measure of any concavity of the boundary—a good indicator of mitosis. Objects are finally classified as representing mitotic nuclei or not, as a function of boundary concavity and mean intensity, by use of a Fisher classifier trained on known examples. Other uses for the method could include the analysis of images of soil samples containing certain types of seeds or other particles.

Method and apparatus for preventing dialysis graft intimal hyperplasia

To prevent intimal hyperplasia within a dialysis graft, a flexible tube comprising the dialysis graft is coated interiorly before placement with an anticarcinogen or mitosis-inhibiting agent for preventing cell division. The graft can also be irradiated with light energy by directing light into the lumen of the tube that has been grafted in place, thereby preventing or reducing dialysis graft intimal hyperplasia and reducing inflammation. The light source can be a light emitting diode (LED) or a chemical light source, i.e., a chemiluminescent substance for producing cool light energy within the graft to prevent or reduce the symptoms of GIH. When phototherapy is used, the body is exposed to light radiation at the site of the graft in sufficient amount to prevent undesired cell proliferation within the vessels, the graft, or surrounding tissue where the invention is used without detectable damage to body tissue.

The invention provides a gossypium raimondii functional centromere sequence and a molecular marker of the same. IN the invention, a method of combination of chromatin co-immunoprecipitation and high throughput sequencing (ChiP-Seq) is employed to obtain four DNA sequences in a functional centromere zone of gossypium raimondii, and primers are respectively designed according to the sequences for fluorescence in-situ hybridization (FISH) of mitosis metaphase of the gossypium raimondii. A result proves that all the four sequences generate concentrated, clear and bright signals in the centromere zone of all chromosomes. The centromere sequence can be directly used for positioning the functional centromeres and identification of relative sequences. The molecular marker can be used in genetic location of the centromere of a genetic map of cotton, can provide more accurate information to functional gene location and linkage relationship and can provide basis for sequence splicing of whole genome sequencing of the gossypium raimondii, so that the information of a physical map can be more comprehensive.
