Systems and methods for assisting cardiac valve coaptation

Systems and methods for reducing distention in designated portions of a heart muscle while assisting cardiac valve alignment and coaptation. Anchoring devices are secured to the heart muscle and a bio-compatible cardiac assist device placed over portions of the heart muscle is separately secured to the anchoring devices. The cardiac assist device may be a material that wraps portions of the heart muscle, or may be straps that wrap portions of the heart muscle. Tightening and securing the cardiac assist device in place helps to reduce distention in chambers of the heart muscle and aids alignment and coaptation of cardiac valves.

Preparation method of large-size aluminum alloy ingot

The invention discloses a preparation method of a large-size aluminum alloy ingot, relating to a preparation method of aluminum alloy ingots, and the provided preparation method of a large-size aluminum alloy ingot solves the problem of easy cracking during preparing the large-size aluminum alloy ingots by the traditional aluminum alloy ingot preparation method. The method comprises the following steps of: spreading and scattering a NO. flux at the bottom of a smelting furnace; adding aluminum ingots, electrolytic copper, zinc ingots, aluminum-silicon intermediate alloy, aluminum-iron intermediate alloy, aluminum-manganese intermediate alloy, aluminum-chromium intermediate alloy and aluminum-titanium intermediate alloy into the smelting furnace and spreading and scattering a covering agent; heating to ensure that the materials are smelted, sequentially adding a zirconium composite salt and magnesium ingots as well as smelting and refining to obtain an aluminum alloy melt; filtering the aluminum alloy melt and then pouring into a crystallizer; and finally, obtaining the large-size aluminum alloy ingot through casting. The thickness of the ingot prepared by using the method is 500-600mm, the width is 1,600mm, and the length is 1,500-2,500mm. The ingot has no cracks, good surface quality and uniform internal grains, and the yield is not smaller than 65 percent.

Active matrix organic light emitting diode display

InactiveUS20060164345A1Maintain color balanceUniformity of chromaticityElectrical apparatusStatic indicating devicesActive matrixFrame time
An improved AM OLED pixel circuit and method of wide dynamic range dimming for AM OLED displays are disclosed that maintain color balance throughout the dimming range, and also maintain the uniformity of the luminance and chromaticity of the display at low gray-levels as the display is dimmed to lower luminance values. As such, AM OLED displays can meet the stringent color/dimming specifications required for existing and future avionics, cockpit, and hand-held military device display applications. Essentially, the OLED pixel circuit and method of dimming that are disclosed use Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) of the OLED pixel current to achieve the desired display luminance. Two example circuits are disclosed that externally PW modulate the common cathode voltage or common power supply voltage to modulate the OLED current in order to achieve the desired display luminance. Three example circuits are disclosed that incorporate additional transistor switches in the pixel circuit to modulate the OLED current during the frame time. By PWM of the OLED current, in combination with data voltage (or current) modulation, wide dynamic range dimming can be achieved while maintaining the color balance and the luminance and chromaticity uniformity required over the surface of the display involved.

Composite brake disc

A brake disc arrangement has a mounting portion formed of a metal, with a plurality of radial protuberances extending radially outward therefrom. The radial protuberances each have a radially distal tip portion, and a ceramic coating is applied to the radially distal tip portion of the radial protuberances. The brake plate portion is cast so as to surround the radially distal tip portions. However, it is isolated therefrom by the ceramic coating. At least some of the radially distal tip portions are formed of metal having a microstructure created by electrical discharge machining to increase dampening. A sand core within a core box holds the mounting portion in a predetermined fixed orientation. The molten metal is poured into the core box mold, and the metal brake plate portion is prevented by the ceramic coating from welding to any of the plurality of radial protuberances.

Nucleating additive formulations of bicyclo[2.2.1]heptane dicarboxylate salts

Milled, small particle size, solid bicyclo[2.2.1]heptane dicarboxylate salt-containing thermoplastic nucleating additive formulations further comprising at least one anticaking agent for improved haze reduction, improved nucleation performance, and prevention of potential cementation (via agglomeration) of the salt component present therein are provided. Such small particle size dicarboxylate salts provide desirable properties within thermoplastic articles, particularly as nucleating agents, but apparently suffer from certain clarity issues and agglomeration problems (due to the flat and thin plate structures of such compounds and the propensity they exhibit to cohere to each other during storage), making utilization thereof less desirable for certain applications. Thus, an improvement has been provided to permit full benefit of the excellent crystallization temperatures, stiffness, and calcium stearate compatibility such dicarboxylate salts accord within target low haze thermoplastics. Furthermore, unexpected improvements in dusting reduction have been found upon the utilization of such anticaking additives in combination with the aforementioned nucleating salts. Thermoplastic additive compositions and methods of producing thermoplastics with such nucleator / anticaking additive combinations are also contemplated within this invention.

Reconstituted tobacco sheet and smoking article therefrom

A smoking article having one or more reconstituted tobacco split inner wrap strips is described. One or more split inner wrap strips extend coaxially along the tobacco column between the inner surface of an outer wrap of cigarette paper and the tobacco column. The tobacco blend includes burley and a second tobacco, such as flue-cured, oriental, Maryland, or rare and exotic tobaccos, and combinations thereof. This blend improves burley smoke character without increasing Hoffman analyte levels, especially tobacco-specific nitrosamines (i.e., TNSAs). A cigarette with an improved burley smoke character without increasing Hoffman analyte levels is also described.

Reduced reactor fouling

Fouling in a dispersed phase reactor in the presence of a phosphinimine catalyst and MAO may be reduced by reducing the loading of the phosphinimine catalyst to provide from 0.02 to 0.031 mmol of transition M per g of catalyst while still maintaining a productivity of not less than 2500 g of polymer / gram of catalyst. The catalyst may optionally be used in the presence of an antistatic agent.

Turbine spring clip seal

An improved turbine spring clip seal for directing gases to be mixed with fuel in a combustor basket. The turbine spring clip seal is composed of inner and outer housings and a center sealing member disposed between the inner and outer housings. The center sealing member is flexible and prevents a fluid, such as air, from leaking through the seal. In operation, the center sealing member flexes and is sealed against the outer housing by a pressure differential that is created by the relatively higher pressure on the inner housing side and the relatively lower pressure on the outer housing side.

Methods to identify macromolecule binding and aggregation prone regions in proteins and uses therefor

The present invention provides methods and computational tools based, at least in part, on computer simulations that identify macromolecule binding regions and aggregation prone regions of a protein. Substitutions may then be made in these aggregation prone regions to engineer proteins with enhanced stability and / or a reduced propensity for aggregation. Similarly, substitutions may then be made in these macromolecule binding regions to engineer proteins with altered binding affinity for the macromolecule.
