Method for producing a wound dressing

A method for making a wound dressing having an absorbent core includes the steps of inserting a plurality of projection elements into a distal surface of the absorbent core such that the projection elements extend into a thickness of the absorbent core and are suitably heated to impart their shape in the absorbent core. The projection elements are removed from the absorbent core to form receptacles therein. A discrete portion of at least one absorbent material is inserted in each of the receptacles.

Method and apparatus for controlled feeding of an infant

A method and apparatus for controlled feeding of an infant provides a safer and less expensive apparatus for the enteral feeding of a neonatal infant, as well as a mechanism for minimizing separation of fluid for any enteral feeding patient. The apparatus allows for dispensing the feeding solution from conventional baby bottles or breast pump reservoirs, or other convenient reservoirs in combination with a peristaltic pump. The feeding system helps reduce the risk for contaminating the feeding solution by minimizing the handling of the feeding solution. By utilizing a pump which is less expensive than current neonatal feeding pumps, the feeding system is more cost effective in all environments and more suitable for home use.

Nozzle with flow equalizer

A fuel injector for a gas turbine engine has an inlet fitting, a fuel nozzle, and a housing stem with a pair of fuel conduits fluidly interconnecting the nozzle and fitting. The fuel nozzle includes an annular secondary fuel passageway directing fuel from one fuel conduit to an annular discharge orifice at a discharge end of the nozzle. The secondary fuel passageway is defined between an outer, annular fuel conduit portion and a primary adapter. The primary adapter has an outer surface with a distinct, radially-outwardly-projecting annular shoulder to restrict flow through the secondary passageway and provide substantially uniform distribution of flow through the passageway downstream of the shoulder, for improved combustion and flame stability.

Impeller for centrifugal compressors

In an impeller for centrifugal compressors comprising a plurality of blades each having a base end attached to a central hub, each of the blades is given with a thickness which increases progressively toward a hub end thereof, and a suction surface side of the blade is given with a greater thickness increase rate with respect to a neutral plane than a pressure surface side of the blade. Thereby, the inter-blade channel is narrowed locally in the region near the hub end of the suction surface of each blade, and this locally reduces the aerodynamic loading on the blade. In particular, the surge property is improved, and the generation of radially outwardly directed secondary flows can be minimized. This allows the distribution of aerodynamic loading in the radial direction or from the tip end to the hub end of each blade to be controlled at will, and enables the optimum design of the impeller.

Stiff metal hub for an energy storage rotor

Several embodiments of a stiff, metallic hub for an energy storage devices are disclosed in the present invention. The stiff hub produces a critical velocity that is significantly greater than the design operating speed of the flywheel assembly so that resonant frequency is never reached during normal operation of the energy storage device's flywheel assembly. The stiff hub comprises a central core section that maintains a tight interference fit with the rotating shaft; an outer rim section that maintains a tight interference with the high-strength, low-density composite fiber rim, in which energy primarily is stored; and a web section that is situated therebetween, extending radially from the rotary shaft. At high operating speeds, the outer rim of the hub expands radially commensurate with expansion of the composite fiber rim so that enough of the outer rim remains in tight interference fit with the composite fiber rim to substantially minimize vibrations.

Cooling Pillow

A cooling pillow generates a gust of cooled air when compressed. A solid, resilient, compressible foam block forms a core of the cooling pillow. A phase change material layer adhered to a surface of the foam block. Holes can be formed in the foam block to enhance the feel of the pillow and to improve the speed at which air is displaced when the cooling pillow is compressed. A pillow protector encloses of lightweight breathable material encloses the foam block. The pillow protector prevents the foam block and cooling layer from being abraded during insertion and removal from a pillow case. The pillow case encloses the pillow protector, which in tour holds the foam block and cooling layer. The pillow case has a breathable surface. The breathable surface is oriented to overly the cooling layer. A performance material can be used to form the breathable surface. To use the cooling pillow, the cooling pillow is oriented with the cooling layer and the breathable surface facing upward. The user then rests his or her head on the top of the pillow and compresses the cooling pillow with the weight of his or her head. As the pillow compresses, air is displaced and is cooled by the phase change material in the cooling layer. The result is a gust of cooled air against the user's head and neck.

Locking cable support

A locking cable support that reduces potential wire abrasion, minimizes magnetic interference to communication signals, and provides a wide opening feature that permits easy insertion of cables without first twisting them. The shape and flexibility of the improved locking cable support enable it to be opened wider than prior art metallic bridle rings, allowing easier insertion of wires. Non-metallic construction minimizes potential wire abrasion and reduces the possibility of magnetic interference with communication signals. A wide surface in the ring portion provides a comfortable seat for cables with minimal bending of cables between supports.

Multipass Cell Using Spherical Mirrors While Achieving Dense Spot Patterns

ActiveUS20120242989A1Minimizes separationLong optical path lengthRadiation pyrometryMirrorsSpherical formPhysics
A technique for designing a multipass optical cell utilizes an iterative artificial intelligence-based optimization process based upon evaluation of direct ray tracing with mirrors simulated as having true spherical surfaces (i.e., defined as a “thick lens”) to identify particular cell configurations that result in creating spot patterns which fill a significant portion of the surface of each mirror without significant spot overlap. This technique allows the use of relatively simple, low-cost spherical mirrors while providing the desired dense spot patterns.
