Method and apparatus for fractional photo therapy of skin

A method and apparatus for providing fractional treatment of tissue (e.g., skin) using lasers is disclosed. The method involves creating one or more microscopic treatment zones of necrotic tissue and thermally-altered tissue and intentionally leaving viable tissue to surround the microscopic treatment zones. The dermatological apparatus includes one or more light sources and a delivery system to generate the microscopic treatment zones in a predetermined pattern. The microscopic treatment zones may be confined to the epidermis, dermis or span the epidermal-dermal junction, and further the stratum corneum above the microscopic treatment zones may be spared.

Capacitive measurement system

Sensor circuits for the measurement of small variations in the value of a sensing capacitor. An alternating voltage excites the sensing capacitor a predetermined frequency whereby the voltage on the sensing capacitor reverses polarity. This voltage on the sensing capacitor is sampled each time the voltage reverses polarity. An accumulator accumulates the sampled charges from the sensing capacitor. An output signal that represents the charge in the charge accumulating means indicates the measured capacitance.

Method for control of NOx emission from combustors using fuel dilution

A method of controlling NOx emission from combustors. The method involves the controlled addition of a diluent such as nitrogen or water vapor, to a base fuel to reduce the flame temperature, thereby reducing NOx production. At the same time, a gas capable of enhancing flame stability and improving low temperature combustion characteristics, such as hydrogen, is added to the fuel mixture. The base fuel can be natural gas for use in industrial and power generation gas turbines and other burners. However, the method described herein is equally applicable to other common fuels such as coal gas, biomass-derived fuels and other common hydrocarbon fuels. The unique combustion characteristics associated with the use of hydrogen, particularly faster flame speed, higher reaction rates, and increased resistance to fluid-mechanical strain, alter the burner combustion characteristics sufficiently to allow operation at the desired lower temperature conditions resulting from diluent addition, without the onset of unstable combustion that can arise at lower combustor operating temperatures.
