Copy DNA and sense RNA

The present invention relates generally to methods, compositions and kits for synthesizing sense RNA molecules from one or more RNA molecules of interest in a sample. In exemplary embodiments, the methods use a terminal tagging oligoribonucleotide (rTTO) to join a DNA sequence tag to the 3′-termini of first-strand cDNA molecules. The use of an rTTO comprising ribonucleotides results in decreased oligonucleotide-derived background synthesis of RNA in the absence of sample RNA and, surprisingly and unexpectedly, also results in significantly increased yields of sense RNA molecules that exhibit sequences that are substantially identical to those of the RNA molecules of interest in the sample. The sense RNA molecules also have an RNA sequence tag on their 5′-termini that is useful for fixing the lengths of sense RNA molecules that are synthesized in a second or subsequent round.

Process for manufacturing powder coating compositions introducing hard to incorporate additives and/or providing dynamic color control

An extrusion process for manufacturing thermosetting powder coating compositions is disclosed. A base material is fed to an extruder body such as from a pre-mix hopper; in one embodiment, hard to incorporate additives, such as pigments, are added to the base material after they exit from the pre-mix hopper and before they exit from the extruder body. In another embodiment, hard to incorporate additives in a dried form are added with the base material. The combined base material and hard to incorporate additives are mixed through at least a portion of the extruder body to form a homogeneous thermosetting powder coating composition. The output of the extruder body may be monitored for composition accuracy, wherein the amount of hard to incorporate additives added is dynamically adjusted based upon the monitored output. The process may be repeated for thermosetting powder coating compositions having distinct hard to incorporate additives utilizing a common base material in the pre-mix hopper. Use of one or more hyperdispersed pigments in the formation of a powder coating is also disclosed.

Noel (co) polymers and a novel polymerization process based on atom (or group) transfer radical polymerization

InactiveUS20050090632A1Increase in the rate of side reactionsReduce rateCoatingsGraft polymer adhesivesElastomerMeth-
A new polymerization process (atom transfer radical polymerization, or ATRP) based on a redox reaction between a transition metal (e.g., Cu(I) / Cu(II), provides “living” or controlled radical polymerization of styrene, (meth)acrylates, and other radically polymerizable monomers. Using various simple organic halides as model halogen atom transfer precursors (initiators) and transition metal complexes as a model halogen atom transfer promoters (catalysts), a “living” radical polymerization affords (co)polymers having the predetermined number average molecular weight by Δ[M] / [I]0 (up to Mn>105) and a surprisingly narrow molecular weight distribution (Mw / Mn), as low as 1.15. The participation of free radical intermediates in ATRP is supported by end-group analysis and stereochemistry of the polymerization. In addition, polymers with various topologies (e.g., block, random, star, end-functional and in-chain functional copolymers [for example, of styrene and methyl (meth)acrylate]) have been synthesized using the present process. The polymeric products encompassed by the present invention can be widely used as plastics, elastomers, adhesives, emulsifiers, thermoplastic elastomers, etc.

Extractive Distillation Process For Benzene Recovery

Recovering high purity benzene from hydrocarbon feedstock containing aromatics and non-aromatics is implemented by simple and low-cost modifications to conventional extractive distillation columns (EDCs). Methyl cyclohexane (MCH) that is generated through non-selective hydrogenation of toluene in hydrodesulfurization (HDS) units is a major contaminant in benzene production. To meet MCH specifications, often times the extractive distillation (ED) process for recovering purified benzene is operated with excessive benzene loss to the overhead raffinate stream, producing a lower quality non-aromatic product. Novel techniques (1) remove operational constrictions of the HDS unit on MCH production, thus lengthening the catalyst life and (2) allow the EDC to drive essentially any amount of MCH away from the bottom benzene product without concerns with benzene loss to the overhead raffinate stream and (3) recover benzene from the overhead raffinate stream to upgrade the quality of non-aromatic product and increase the benzene product recovery.
