Helmet systems and other wearable safety gear

InactiveUS20140215693A1Little strengthReduce head traumaHatsHeadwear capsEngineeringMagnet
A system of two or more helmets used in team sports with magnetic material embedded in, or attached to, each helmet. Magnets are positioned identically in helmets so that the north magnetic field is facing outward. When two or more helmets come in close proximity, the like magnetic fields repel one another. This slows the velocities of the helmets, deflects the helmets as they collide, and generally causes helmets to move away from one another. This system is applicable for any sport or activity where concussive forces are caused by two or more helmets colliding, such as helmets in football, hockey, lacrosse, etc. When the helmet system is in place, magnets polarized in the same direction can be placed in other team equipment (e.g., knee pads) to mitigate blows to the head caused by that part of the body.

Leadless brass alloy excellent in stress corrosion cracking resistance

ActiveUS20090297390A1Enhanced in stress corrosion cracking resistanceEnhance stress corrosion cracking resistanceCrazingCrack resistance
By enhancing a stress corrosion cracking resistance in a leadless brass alloy, specifically by suppressing a velocity of propagation of corrosion cracks in the brass alloy, a straight line crack peculiar to the leadless brass alloy is suppressed, a probability of cracks coming into contact with γ phases is heightened and local corrosion on the brass surface is prevented to suppress induction of cracks by the local corrosion, thereby providing a leadless brass alloy contributable to enhancement of the stress corrosion cracking resistance. The present invention is directed to an Sn-containing Bi-based, Sn-containing Bi+Sb-based or Sn-containing Bi+Se+Sb-based leadless brass alloy excellent in stress corrosion cracking resistance, having an α+γ structure or α+β+γ structure and having γ phases distributed uniformly therein at a predetermined proportion to suppress local corrosion and induction of stress corrosion cracks.

Method for improving rifle accuracy

A method is shown for increasing rifle accuracy. The rifle component parts are tuned for hitting a target at the same spot for a given fixed distance. The characteristics of the rifle barrel design give it an infinitely tunable positive compensation. The positive compensation characteristics of the rifle can be varied by adjusting a tensioning bar welded to the rifle recoil lug and an associated adjustment knob extending from the action to the exterior of the rifle stock. Increasing the tension on the tensioning bar reduces the upswing of the rifle barrel from the stock under the force of recoil.

Process for Reducing Soluble Organic Content in Produced Waters Associated with the Recovery of Oil and Gas

A chemical treatment process and separation module are described for removal of soluble organic compounds and suspended or emulsified oils and / or solids from produced waters that accompany operations for oil and gas recovery. The process occurs in its entirety within an interval of several minutes. The solubility of organic compounds is first reduced, in an optional step, by pH reduction, followed by treatment with coagulants and flocculants, the latter in conjunction with microbubble flotation. The organic compounds that are rendered insoluble, along with other oily solids, are captured in the floe created by the coagulant and flocculant treatment, and simultaneously made buoyant by the concurrent addition of microbubbles. The water and floe is passed over an array of sloped strainers that separates and diverts the floe from the effluent water, which contains significantly reduced soluble organic content. The separated stream of oily solids can be dewatered for disposal as waste.

Motor control method and control device

When motor drive is initiated, firstly a PWM value at time of driving initiation is set to an initial setting value start_pwm1, and gradually increased by a specified amount in specified period. When an encoder edge is detected, the PWM value is reset to the initial setting value, and increased again in the same manner. From second edge detection, next PWM initial value is set corresponding to a PWM value at the time of edge detection. If the PWM value at the time of edge detection is larger than det_pwm_max owing to load on the motor becoming large and thereby driving velocity becoming slower, a PWM value which is larger than previous PWM initial value is set as a new PWM initial value. The driving target can be driven stably irrelevant to fluctuation of the load on the motor.

Fluid flow control system having capillary fluid flow restrictor

A fluid flow rate control system and method comprises a capillary tube having a proximal end that projects into a chamber with a cross-sectional area that is larger than or equal to the fluid supply tube's cross-sectional area. The inner cross-sectional area of the capillary tube is configured less than the inner cross-sectional area of the chamber. The chamber has a volume large enough to slow the fluid conducted to it by the upstream fluid line to permit contaminants to fall out of solution. In another aspect, a sleeve is used to mount the capillary tube into the chamber. The sleeve provides a mounting surface for tube segments from the pump and downstream of the capillary restrictor.

Method and apparatus for airflow transition edges on noise dampers in a hard disk drive

The present invention includes apparatus and methods for disk dampers with an inlet edge and / or an outlet edge, oriented and shaped to control airflow within the hard disk drive. The inlet edge and the outlet edge reduce the airflow turbulence at the actuator assembly. This improves the Position Error Signal (PES), as the read-write head accesses a rotating disk surface. The outlet edge may preferably be curved and oriented at an oblique angle with respect to the angular rotation of the disk(s) in the hard disk drive. The outlet edge may preferably extend over a section of a sector angle. The inlet edge may preferably be oblique, which helps to slow down the overall velocity of the airflow into the disk damper. This allows the tip of the inlet edge to be positioned closer to the actuator assembly than previously possible.

Rifle Accuracy and Noise Suppression Systems

A noise suppressor for mounting on a distal end of a rifle barrel. The suppressor is made up of an inner core component and an outer sleeve component which is received about the inner core component, creating a gas-receiving chamber between the two. The inner core component an internally threaded, barrel receiving end which receives and engages the exteriorly threaded end of the rifle barrel in overlapping fashion, an oppositely arranged exteriorly threaded end, and a central bore between the two ends which allows the passage of a bullet when the bullet is fired, firing of the bullet also setting off hot exhaust gases in the central bore. The sleeve component has window openings for exhausting hot gases from the inner chamber into the surrounding outer chamber and also has an exterior longitudinal region forward of the central chamber, the exterior region having a series of longitudinally aligned, upwardly extending teeth formed therein for diverting the hot, high speed gases contacting the upwardly extending teeth.

Noise attenuation device for reducing noise attenuation in a jet engine test cell

A noise attenuation device for use in a jet engine test cell for testing a jet engine comprising a carbon steel pipe which is aligned axially with direction of exhaust from the jet engine. The carbon steel pipe is positioned within an augmenter within the test cell. Cold air enters the front end of the carbon-steel pipe. Adding three times the mass of cold air to that of the hot jet exhaust allows the hot jet exhaust to mix with the cold air forming an engine exhaust-cool air mixture. When the engine exhaust-cool air mixture reaches the outlet end of the carbon steel pipe, its temperature is reduced from 3800° F. to less than 1200° F., which substantially reduces noise generated by the jet exhaust. Located in proximity to the rear end of the carbon steel pipe is an annular region which is formed between perforated side plates within the carbon steel pipe and the inner wall of the augmenter. The flow is diffused as the flow area expands in the annular region. The combination of the carbon steel pipe and the annular region slow the velocity of the jet engine exhaust-cool air mixture, further reducing noise production from the jet engine.
