ActiveUS20110034918A1Reduce forceImproving tissue division and repeatabilityIncision instrumentsBlunt dissectorsSurgical instrumentDissection forceps
A forceps for use in surgery for dissecting tissue includes a pair of jaw members movable from an open position in spaced relation relative to one another to a closed position. The jaw members each have an outer housing extending along the length thereof to a distal end of the jaw members. The outer housing of one of the jaw members includes a textured surface at a distal end configured to interface with and dissect tissue during the movement of the jaw members from the closed to open positions. A dissecting tip may be selectively extendable from a channel defined in one of the jaw members to engage and separate tissue when in the extended position.

Wellbore system with annular seal member

A wellbore system having a borehole extending into an earth formation, a tubular element extending into the borehole whereby a cylindrical wall surrounds the tubular element in a manner that an annular space is formed between the tubular element and the cylindrical wall, at least one seal member arranged in the annular space, each seal member being movable between a retracted mode in which the seal member has a first volume and an expanded mode in which the seal member has a second volume larger than the first volume, wherein the seal member in the expanded mode thereof seals the annular space, and wherein the seal member includes a material which swells upon contact with a selected fluid so as to move the seal member from the retracted mode to the expanded mode thereof.

Method and system for infusing an osmotic solute into a patient and providing feedback control of the infusing rate

InactiveUS20070088333A1Careful monitoringTightly controlPharmaceutical delivery mechanismCatheterRate of infusionUrine
A patient intravenous (I.V.) infusion pump and biosensors, such as urine volume and sodium concentration sensors, are combined in an infusion system to infuse controlled amount of osmotic agent, such as hypertonic saline, into a blood vessel of a patient. A control subsystem is responsive to the biosensors output and configured to automatically adjust the infusion rate of the infusion pump based on said output. The resulting therapy increases urine output to resolve fluid overload and edema.
