Polyolefin wood fiber composite

An improved composite structural member comprising a complex profile structural member, made of a composite comprising a polypropylene polymer and a wood fiber. The material is useful in conventional construction applications. The complex profile, in the form of an extruded thermoplastic composite member can be used in residential and commercial structures as described. Preferably, the structural member is used in the manufacture of the fenestration components such as windows and doors. Such linear members are designed with specifically configured cross-sectional shapes to form structural elements in the fenestration units. Structural elements must possess sufficient strength, thermal stability and weatherability to permit the manufacture of a structurally sound window unit that can be easily installed into a rough opening but can maintain its attractive appearance and structural integrity over the life of the window unit often twenty years or more. The structural member comprises a hollow complex cross-section with at least one structural web or one fastener web formed within the component. The exterior of the extruded component has a visible capstock layer and is shaped and adapted for installation in rough openings. The exterior also contains shape and components capable of supporting the elements of the fenestration unit such as a window, sash or movable door unit. The improved polypropylene structural members have unique advantages and can be assembled in thermoplastic weld processes.

Tutorial generator with automatic capture of screenshots

Screenshots on a computer display are automatically captured to assist in building a tutorial to demonstrate the functionality of one or more applications. In one possible approach, an event detector, such as an accessibility toolkit, detects when events are generated by the one or more applications. The events may include, e.g., button clicks, windows opening or closing, drag and drop events, check boxes being checked, menus being pulled down or menu items selected, and so forth. Or, a program may monitor pixel changes on the screen to detect when changes occur in the images generated by the one or more applications. A tutorial builder application automatically captures an image when the event or image change is detected, edits the captured image such as by providing a focus on the changed portion, and provides the edited image in a tutorial window. Related text can also be automatically generated.

Single step process for epitaxial lateral overgrowth of nitride based materials

An epitaxial deposition process produces epitaxial lateral overgrowth (ELO) of nitride based materials directly a patterned substrate (10). The substrate (10) is preferably formed from SiC or sapphire, and is patterned with a mask (12), preferably formed of silicon nitride, having a plurality of openings (13) formed therein. A nucleation layer (14), preferably formed of AlGaN, is grown at a high reactor temperature of 700-1100 degrees C., which wets the exposed substrate surface, without significant nucleation on the mask (12). This eliminates the need for regrowth while producing smooth growth surfaces in the window openings (13) as well as over the mask (12). Subsequent deposition of a nitride based material layer (16), preferably GaN, results in a relatively defect free planar surfaced material grown laterally over the mask (12).
