Rate control. A form of control in which the position of a controller determines the rate or velocity of motion of a controlled object.

Method and system for rate control service in a network

A system and method has been disclosed for controlling the transmission flow rate of data bits in a data bit transfer session from a serving entity to a client, the session involving bit transfer over a wireless communications link, the method comprising: setting up the session, included establishing the addressing, by providing a radio control node to establish flow rate parameters relating to the wireless link, monitoring the wireless communication link; based on monitoring, sending new flow rate parameters so that the serving entity can update the transmission rate of the session in accordance with the new rate control parameters.

Real-time video coding/decoding

A video codec for real-time encoding / decoding of digitized video data with high compression efficiency, comprising a frame encoder receiving input frame pixels; a codec setting unit for setting and storing coding setting parameters; a CPU load controller for controlling desired frame encoding time and CPU loading; a rate controller for controlling frame size; a coding statistics memory for storing frequency tables for arithmetic coding of bitstream parameters and a reference frame buffer for storing reference frames. The frame encoder comprises a motion estimation unit, a frame head coding unit, a coded frame reconstruction and storage unit and a macroblock encoding unit. The macroblock encoding unit provides calculation of texture prediction and prediction error, transforming texture prediction error and quantization of transform coefficient, calculation of motion vector prediction and prediction error and arithmetic context modeling for motion vectors, header parameters and transform coefficients. The codec also includes a deblocking unit for processing video data to eliminate blocking effect from restored data encoded at high distortion level, which may be a part of encoder or decoder, an internal resize unit, providing matching downscaling of a frame before encoding and upscaling of decoded frame according to the coding setting parameters, and a noise suppression unit.

Adaptive power control based on a rake receiver configuration in wideband CDMA cellular systems (WCDMA) and methods of operation

A WCDMA system includes a Base Station (BS) or forward transmitter and a pilot channel that transmits control signals between a Mobile Station (MS) and BS to reconfigure their transmitter/receiver according to the prediction of the channel power and channel power probability density function separated into three distinct equal probable regions. Data signals are encoded using a one-half Viterbi encoder and interleaved. The interleaved data bits are modulated using Quadrature Phase Shift Keying (QPSK) modulation. The QPSK data is multiplexed with the pilot channel and spread by an appropriate code in an OFDM transmitter modified by a long code. Output of the transmitter may be provided to two diverse antennas for reliable communications to the receiver. Data may be received at two diverse antennas. The outputs are provided to match filters coupled to a coherent rake receiver and a channel prediction system. The future attenuation of the channel coefficients and power are determined by the prediction system for several milliseconds. The power levels of each finger in the Rake receiver can be predicted and the strongest ones used in determining the optimum transmitter power or rate control for operating the system transmitters and receivers based on computing a long range power prediction of each finger of a rake receiver.

Queuing delay based rate control

A method and apparatus for rate control adjusts or otherwise requests adjustment of a communication link data rate based on transmit queuing delays. For example, a mobile station may monitor expected transmit queuing delays relative to one or more delay targets or other Quality-of-Service constraints, and request reverse link rate increases or decreases accordingly. Similarly, the mobile station may be configured periodically to request reverse link rate changes based on determining the rate needed to meet targeted queuing delays for one or more service instances being supported by the mobile station in each of a succession of ongoing rate control intervals. Requested rates may be defined data rates or may be virtual rates that can be achieved by using combinations of defined data rates. Queuing-based rate control also can be applied to the base station's forward link, and, more broadly, to essentially any rate controlled communication link.

Adaptive information delivery system using FEC feedback

A method and apparatus for optimizing the data transfer rate over a transport layer (i.e., communication link) such as the Internet is provided. Initially the data is prepared for transmission by a transfer rate controller, then the data is encoded by a Forward Error Correction (FEC) encoder. After the data has been transferred over the transport layer, the quality of the data transfer link is assessed by an FEC decoder that determines if any errors occurred during data transfer and if errors are detected, the magnitude of the errors (i.e., FEC-correctable packets, FEC-uncorrectable packets). This information is used to generate a feedback message which is used by the transfer rate controller to adjust and optimize the data transfer rate for the link quality as determined at that point in time. By continually monitoring and assessing link quality and providing feedback to the transfer rate controller, the transfer rate can be continually adapted to the varying link quality. In addition to generating feedback used by the transfer rate controller to optimize data transfer rate, the FEC decoder can generate feedback that is used by the FEC encoder to optimize the FEC algorithm. If desired, feedback from the FEC decoders within the link layer demodulator and / or feedback from the receiver can be used to augment the feedback generated by the FEC decoder.

The invention discloses a self-adaptive transmission method and a self-adaptive transmission system in the uplink cellular video communication of the wireless multimedia communication technical field. The method is that: a feedback-based channel effectively transmits bandwidth perceiving; the sending speed of a data flow is adjusted according to the perceived effective transmission bandwidth, the adjustment of the sending rate is realized by changing the packet length of the data flow; two-stage information resource rate control based on cache cleaning and rate control of an encoder is used. The device comprises a sending end, a transmission network and a receiving end, wherein the sending end comprises a video encoding unit and a transmission control unit, the receiving end comprises a transmission control unit and a video decoding unit, the sending end and the receiving end transmit messages through the transmission network. The sending rate of the invention can automatically adapt to the change of the channel bandwidth, decreases the probability of packet loss caused by the fluctuation of the wireless channel bandwidth, and realizes that the customer side can obtain the best possible playing quality under the condition of constant change of network operation conditions.
