Multi-function field-deployable resource harnessing apparatus and methods of manufacture

A multi-function, field-deployable resource harnessing apparatus 600 having, in its embodiments, an inflatable reflector apparatus 610 comprising a least one manufactured parabolic mirror made from a pressure-deformable reflective covering of an inflatable ring for focusing electromagnetic energy from radio frequency radiation (RF) through the ultraviolet (UV) radiation including solar energy for (1) heating and cooking, (2) electrical power generation, (3) enhancing the transmission and reception of radio signals, (4) enhancing vision in low-light environments, and/or (5) projection of optical signals or images. The device also has non-electromagnetic uses, such as the collection and storage of water, harnessing of energy from a fluid stream, and/or harnessing wave energy. A first main embodiment of the inflatable reflector apparatus 610 generally utilizes two pressure-deformable membranes, at least one of which is reflective. A second main embodiment utilizes a reflective membrane and a transparent membrane. In addition to the reflector apparatus 610, the modular apparatus 600 typically further includes modular assemblies to increase versatility, facilitate use, and/or enhance safety such as, for example, a modular support and orienting assembly 612, a separate support ring 614, a safety shield or cage 616, a focal point support assembly 618, a safety cover 620, a safety net or mesh 622, and a stabilizing assembly 624. Portability is enhanced by complete collapsing of the inflatable device.

Protective shield for aircraft cockpit crew

This invention relates generally to the field of aircraft technology and systems utilized for protection of aircraft, occupants, and operators thereof from hijackers, terrorists, and other anomalous problems while in flight. More particularly, the present invention relates to a device used in conjunction with walls, floor, and ceiling of a cockpit's entry/exit passageway for protecting the cockpit crew from weapons, hostility, decompression, and/or physical intrusions. A light weight protective shield for the cockpit of an aircraft (i.e. bullet-proof door) along with a internal locking and release device, none of which is provided by prior art. The protective shield can absorb repeated blows, provide pressure relief in the event of aircraft decompression, resist penetration of firearms, knives, and explosive devices, and is compliant with FAA regulations. The protective shield provides a new level of protection for the crew of a passenger or cargo airplane and protects the cockpit of an aircraft from hijacking attempts as well as other anomalous events and is comprised of a light weight weapon-proof protective shield that when closed fits snugly with the flight deck's adjoining floor, walls, and ceiling. This protective shield system is intended to readily install inside existing aircraft (e.g. over-night retrofit installation) or be installed into new aircraft as they are assembled.

Ballistic shield

A ballistic shield for protection against up to 7.62×63 mm AP rounds (NIJ Level IV). The ballistic shield is multiple layered and includes polymer foam, ceramic tiles, and a support structure fabricated from ballistic resistant fabric. Individual layers are bonded with adhesives and preferably wrapped with fabric. Under the fabric cover of the exterior surface of the shield is a polymer foam layer that exhibits excellent blast impact resistance and blast attenuation properties as well as a hard ceramic or the like layer. The foam layer is preferably made from liquid crystal or semi-crystalline polymer to enhance fire resistance and provide enhanced ductility. According to various preferred embodiments, the man-portable ballistic shield also incorporates a compact video system for viewing the front side of the ballistic shield to eliminate the transparent view port of current ballistic shields and protective foam about the periphery and on the rear surface thereof.

A helmet is particularly well suited for cold-weather use. The helmet includes a jaw shield that is detachable from a head portion. A breathing mask connects to the jaw shield via a mask adjustment mechanism that selectively axially moves the breathing mask toward and away from an inner surface of the jaw shield to precisely and accurately position the breathing mask against the nose and mouth of the helmet's wearer. A spring-loaded quick-release tinted shield is controlled by a lever that selectively raises and lowers the tinted shield. An eye shield pivotally connects to the helmet and is disposed in front of the tinted shield. An eye shield heating system on the eye shield electrically connects to the head portion of the helmet to provide electric power to the heating system.

Edge reinforced brittle armor system

InactiveUS7191694B1Reduce and ameliorate vulnerabilityArmour platesEngineeringTruck
An edge reinforcement for brittle armor plates is described and claimed herein for improving the ballistic performance of the outer peripheral margins of such plates to incoming threat projectiles. Typically, a transparent armor is positioned within a windowed opening of a security structure. Examples of contemplated security structures protected by my shields are civilian light-armored vehicles, military tactical trucks, and combat vehicles. My reinforced armor system deploys a shield of a hardened material, over and outboard of a brittle armor. Typically, this shield is positioned parallel planar to the brittle armor. If desired, my shield may extend slightly beyond the armor plate and mounting apparatuses. Fortuitously, the reinforced brittle armor plate has more strength than that of the central portion, or even exceeds it. Thereby, said plate will not be defeated merely because threat projectiles impact its weaker margins.

Protective cover system

The present invention relates to a protective cover system. One embodiment of the present invention relates to a multi-layer protective cover system configured to be disposed over a transparent object. Particular embodiments relate to incorporating the system with electronic devices and articles of eyewear that include transparent objects such as display screens and lenses respectively. Each layer of the system includes a transparent member, an adhesion system, and a removal system. The transparent member is shaped to two dimensionally conform or exceed the dimensions of an exposed outer surface of the transparent object. The adhesion system removably couples the transparent member to the transparent object in a manner that does not significantly affect the transparency of the combination. The removal system allows individual layers to be removed without substantially affecting the remaining layers or the transparency of the system. One particular removal system embodiment includes attaching an outer tab to each of the layers. Each tab may be uniquely positioned along the outer edge of each layer to allow a user to peel away one or more top layers without affecting the layers below. In addition, each tab may be uniquely colored and / or numerically labeled to indicate the sequence of layers. A second embodiment of the invention relates to a method for sequentially removing protective layers from a transparent object as each layer becomes damaged or otherwise less transparent.
