3084 results about "Petal" patented technology

Petals are modified leaves that surround the reproductive parts of flowers. They are often brightly colored or unusually shaped to attract pollinators. Together, all of the petals of a flower are called a corolla. Petals are usually accompanied by another set of special leaves called sepals, that collectively form the calyx and lie just beneath the corolla. The calyx and the corolla together make up the perianth. When the petals and sepals of a flower are difficult to distinguish, they are collectively called tepals. Examples of plants in which the term tepal is appropriate include genera such as Aloe and Tulipa. Conversely, genera such as Rosa and Phaseolus have well-distinguished sepals and petals. When the undifferentiated tepals resemble petals, they are referred to as "petaloid", as in petaloid monocots, orders of monocots with brightly coloured tepals. Since they include Liliales, an alternative name is lilioid monocots.

Process for extraction and purification of lutein, zeaxanthin and rare carotenoids from marigold flowers and plants

A process for simultaneously extracting, saponifying, and isolating lutein and zeaxanthin, and a mixture of several rare carotenoids in high purity from plants without the use of harmful organic solvents. Lutein crystals containing 5% zeaxanthin were obtained from the dried petals of Marigold flowers Tagete erecla while zeaxanthin was isolated and purified from the berries of Lycium Chinese Mill (LCM berries). Similarly, this process has been employed to isolate and purify a mixture of lutein, beta-carotene, neoxanthin, violaxanthin, and lutein epoxide from green plants, preferably, kale, collard green, and spinach. These plants, to a lesser extent, also serve as a source of several rare carotenoids such as alpha-cryptoxanthin (Marigolds) and beta-cryptoxanthin (LCM berries). The purified carotenoids isolated by this process are free from impurities and serve as a safe source of nutritional supplement for human consumption as well as providing a suitable and effective color additive for human foods.

Actively Controllable Heart Valve Implant and Method of Controlling Same

A mitral valve implant includes a force-expanding mitral valve lattice having an interior orifice and a self-expanding valve trampoline attached at the interior orifice of the force-expanding mitral valve lattice. The mitral valve lattice is self-expandable to a first configuration and force expandable from the first configuration to a second configuration. The configurations can be circular or D-shaped. The mitral valve lattice comprises jack screws adjusting configurations of the mitral valve lattice. The valve trampoline has a cylindrical central region comprising valve leaflets. An outwardly flaring implant skirt is attached to the mitral valve lattice exterior. Wall-retaining wires are attached to the mitral valve lattice, are petal-shaped, and have a pre-set, radially outward, memory shape. The wires and skirt impart a force on a respective side of the native mitral valve when the mitral valve lattice is expanded within an annulus of the native mitral valve.

Swelling packer with overlapping petals

A packer for downhole use features interacting elements of swelling material. Preferably the elements are in contact for relative movement from an initial diameter for run in. As the elements swell, they move with respect to each other to enlarge the diameter of the assembly so that a sealing contact is made. Each element exerts a residual force on the adjacent element to enhance the seal. Each element is preferably coated with a material that allows well fluids to reach the swelling material and then later to stiffen and become impervious from exposure to such fluids. The assembly can be covered for run in to delay the onset of expansion until the target depth is reached for the packer to be set.

Mechanical hand hold type deposit sediment sampler without boundary disturbance

A mechanical handheld type deposit sampler consists of a knife pot assembly and a bush assembly. The knife pot assembly includes the hand bar, the upper end cover, the knife pot and the inserting tube. The bush assembly installed in the knife pot assembly includes the brush cover, the filter screen and the bush, and the claw petal. The manipulator grasping the T type hand bar inserts the sampler down into the marine deposits vertically. In the inserting procedure, the seawater through the filter screen and the drain hole is discharged outside. With the deposit touching the cover of the bush, the bush is brought to move upwards. When the cover touching the locknut, the claw petal is closed to cut off the deposit, sealing the opening so as to complete the sampling operation.

Nesting twisting hinge points in a bifurcated petal geometry

A bifurcated stent that uses turning segments to reduce the strain at regions which bend at extreme angles. The turning segments can be placed on side branch petals or on connectors connecting the petals to the stent body. Combining the turning segments with connectors of different length and tethers provides for a stent with high flexibility that can accommodate various shaped body vessels. This design allows the bifurcation branch to extend easily, to a useful distance, and to be deployed along oblique angles. Best of all, this design avoids the problems of angularly strained side branch.

Selective treatment of stent side branch petals

A stent may include a side branch cell comprising a plurality of petals. When deployed in a bifurcated vessel, petals located near the inside of the bifurcation may experience high amounts of bending. A petal may include a predetermined bending region in which the petal is treated and may have less bending strength. Therefore, the petal will bend at the predetermined bending region in a predetermined fashion. A bending region may be heat-treated to reduce strength, may comprise less cross-sectional area than other portions of the petal, etc.
