159 results about "Homeostatic mechanism" patented technology

Homeostasis is brought about by a natural resistance to change in the optimal conditions, and equilibrium is maintained by many regulatory mechanisms. All homeostatic control mechanisms have at least three interdependent components for the variable being regulated: a receptor, a control centre, and an effector.

Method and system of breathing therapy for reducing sympathetic predominance with consequent positive modification of hypertension

InactiveUS20060047202A1Avoid influenceReduction in “ tenseness ”Gymnastic exercisingCatheterDiseaseNervous system
The invention specifies a method and system for leading a person suffering from “sympathetic predominance”, a specific symptom of which is “hypertension”, to breathe according to a certain pattern for the express purpose of positively altering the condition of sympathetic predominance (over activation), having the effect of bringing the autonomic nervous system into the state of balance, with consequent reductions in “tenseness”, blood pressure, muscular tightness, and emotional strain, as well as the alleviation of the myriad of subtle neuro-physiological consequences resulting from sympathetic predominance potentially including headaches, anxiety, sleep disorders, allergies, and other maladies that have yet to be attributed to this condition, thus leading to a general improvement in health, well being, and homeostasis. It accomplishes this by systematically reducing the breathing frequency with consequent increases in breathing depth, the ultimate goal being the realization and ongoing maintenance of 1 complete breathing cycle in 11.76 seconds or 5 complete breathing cycles in 58.8 seconds, the result being improved health, well being, and homeostasis.

Thermotherapy System Based on Redox Potential

A method for treating a disease by returning the body to a natural condition. The method adjusts a parameter of a thermotherapy for treating or preventing the disease, disability, or condition of a patient and comprises (A) a step of measuring the redox potential (or pH value) of the patient and (B) a step of determining the parameter of thermotherapy suited to the patient according to the redox potential. Considering returning the biopotential to a range called homeostatic potential, a therapeutic potential of −75 mV to −90 mV (the potential in the cell is −75 mV) the absolute value of which is higher than that of the cell is given. It has been found that this therapy effects a cure.

Embryoid Body - Based Screen

Disclosed are embryoid bodies having a uniform size of approximately 415 nm and comprising genetically modified embryonic stem cells, and methods of making same. The genetically uniform embryoid bodies can be multiplexed as one embryoid body per well in a multiwell format, and used as a high to medium throughput screen for test agents that affect the development and homeostasis of animals, including humans. The genetic modification of the embryonic stem cells is a promoter-report-selection construct that enables the selection and detection of cells of a particular lineage in the EB, to determine the effects of a test agent.

Methods for affecting homeostasis and metabolism in a mammalian body

The present invention is directed to novel compositions of bio-active compounds comprising 4-hydroxyisoleucine and one or more compounds selected from the group of amino acids, alkaloids, glycosides, volatile oils, saponins, sapogenins, mannans, flavonoids, fatty acids, vitamins and provitamins, minerals, and carbohydrates. Preferably, the novel compositions of bio-active compounds include 4-hydroxyisoleucine and one or more amino acids selected from the group consisting of arginine, aspartate, threonine, serine, glutamate, proline, glycine, alanine, cysteine, valine, methionine, isoleucine, leucine, tryptophan, phenylalanine, ornithine, proline, lysine, histidine, and gamma-aminobutyrate. The composition of bio-active compounds preferably include between about ten percent and about seventy percent of 4-hydroxyisoleucine and between about twenty percent and about forty percent of other amino acids. The bio-active compounds of the novel composition of the present invention may be derived, isolated, and / or extracted from Fenugreek seeds. A preferred method for extracting the bio-active compounds from Fenugreek seeds includes the steps of: (1) providing a plurality of Fenugreek seeds; (2) preparing the Fenugreek seeds; and (3) extracting a novel composition of bio-active compounds from the Fenugreek seeds, which include a preliminary extraction step and a secondary extraction step. The compositions of bio-active compounds have been found to be helpful in restoring healthy energy balance in humans and animals, aiding in weight management efforts, and for balancing blood sugar levels by way of assisting the body to make more efficient use of existing (i.e., endogenous) insulin.

Method for Evaluating Physical Conditions Using Head Hair or Body Hair

It is intended to provide a method of improving dietary life or screening cancer which comprises measuring the content of an element in head hair or body hair, paying attention to the fact that the content of the element remains constant in healthy humans (i.e., homeostasis) and thus evaluating the physical conditions based on changes in the homeostasis. Namely, a method of evaluating the physical conditions whereby the physical conditions can be evaluated by measuring the content of an element in an arbitrary part of head hair or body hair. Although one's physical conditions change everyday, these changes are scarcely self-noticeable. Therefore, it is required to objectively indicate such changes in the physical conditions in numerical terms. Because of being solid, head hair or body hair can be easily handled. Thus, they are most suitable for analyzing the content of an element and enable large-scaled diagnosis at fixed intervals. This method of evaluating the physical conditions using head hair or body hair, whereby the content of an element at present can be measured by analyzing the hair root while its content of the past can be measured by analyzing at an arbitrary part, is highly effective in evaluating the physical conditions.
