Tunable laser transmitter with internal wavelength grid generators

The present invention provides a continuously tunable external cavity laser (ECL) with a compact form factor and precise tuning to a selected center wavelength of a selected wavelength grid. The ECL may thus be utilized in telecom applications to generate the center wavelengths for any channel on the ITU or other optical grid. The ECL does not require a closed loop feedback. A novel tuning mechanism is disclosed which provides for electrical or mechanical tuning to a known position or electrical parameter, e.g., voltage, current or capacitance, with the required precision in the selected center wavelength arising as a result of a novel arrangement of a grid generator and a channel selector. The grid generator exhibits first pass bands which correspond to the spacing between individual channels of the selected wavelength grid and a finesse which suppresses side band modes of the laser. The channel selector exhibits second pass bands that are wider than the first pass bands. In an embodiment of the invention the second pass bands have a periodicity substantially corresponding with the separation between the shortest wavelength channel and the longest wavelength channel of the selected wavelength grid and a finesse which suppresses channels adjacent to the selected channel. The broad second pass bands of the channel selector reduce the sensitivity of the ECL to tuning variations about the selected channel, thus avoiding the requirement of a closed loop feedback system to control the channel selector.

The method includes the construction phase of a spatial transform layer and the construction and training phase of a deep convolutional neural network. The spatial transform layer consists of three parts: a positioning network receives a feature map as an input, enables the feature map to pass through a series of hidden layers, and then outputs a parameter of spatial transform, wherein the parameter is to be used for the feature map; a grid generator generates sampling grids by using the parameter generated in the first part; and a sampler takes the feature map and the sampling grids as inputs, samples the feature map at grid points, and finally obtains an output feature map result. The spatial transform layer can be differentiated. By the spatial transform layer, image data can be spatially processed in the network so that the network can learn the invariance of the space distortion and avoid the need for manually generating a large number of deformed samples in traditional convolutional network training. In addition, by building deeper volumes and neural networks, a better recognition effect is realized on a large variety of Chinese characters.

A method and system of automatically generating information in a grid structure on a display screen. In one embodiment, the present invention is directed to displaying and editing microcontroller chip configuration information. The method involves reading a data file describing a configurable sub-system of the microcontroller, identifying the configurable parameters of the sub-system and constructing a two dimensional display for displaying the values of variables associated with those parameters. The two dimensional display (“display grid”) may contain a row for each parameter, a column for the name of the parameter, and a cell in each row for each variable associated with that parameter. The cells associated with variables can be restricted to accept values chosen from a set enumerated in the data file describing the configurable sub-system. The data file contains all information necessary for generating the grid display, including its width, length, data label information, cell data and data values that can be assigned to cells. A grid generator reads the data file and automatically generates the display grid based on the embedded data definitions.
