Bio-mechanical sensor system

The bio mechanical sensor system is disclosed that uses conductive fabric sensors to detect, monitor and record one or more physiological parameters of a person wearing a garment that incorporates the fabric sensors such as a body harness or strap for example, that is attached to a person. The physiological parameters that can be detected include a wearer's heart rate and respiration rate plus ambient temperature and body temperature for example. The garment has a monitoring device that is attached to the garment and used to receive the detected physiological data. A processing circuit within the monitoring device then processes the data and outputs the person's physiological data to a display device in a format characteristic of the person's heart rate and respiratory rate and / or outputs the data to a third party system for review and analysis.

Method of fabricating cylindrical bonding structure

A cylindrical bonding structure and its method of manufacture. The cylindrical bonding structure is formed over the bonding pad of a silicon chip and the chip is flipped over to connect with a substrate board in the process of forming a flip-chip package. The cylindrical bonding structure mainly includes a conductive pillar and a solder cap. The conductive pillar is formed over the bonding pad of the silicon chip and the solder cap is attached to the upper end of the conductive pillar. The solder cap has a melting point lower than the conductive pillar. The solder cap can be configured into a cylindrical, spherical or hemispherical shape. To fabricate the cylindrical bonding structure, a patterned mask layer having a plurality of openings that correspond in position to the bonding pads on the wafer is formed over a silicon wafer. Conductive material is deposited into the openings to form conductive pillars and finally a solder cap is attached to the end of each conductive pillar.

Method and apparatus for quantification of optical properties of superficial volumes

InactiveUS20050226548A1Reduces source-detector separation distanceIncreases photon path lengthRadiation pyrometrySpectrum investigationDiffusionOptical property
A device and method for accurately performing quantitative diffuse optical spectroscopy on a sample includes a light source and a source optical fiber that is optically coupled to the light source. A diffuser material is interposed between the source optical fiber and the sample, the diffuser material comprising a high scattering, low absorption material. The diffuser material effectively increases the photon path length from the light source to the sample, which limits the depth of interrogation to superficial volumes despite the penetrating nature of the radiation typically used. A detector optical fiber is provided adjacent to or laterally disposed from the source optical fiber. The detector optical fiber is coupled to a detector which detects photons collected in the detector optical fiber. The detector optical fiber and the source optical fiber may be separated by a distance of less than 5 mm while still permitting the diffusion approximation to remain valid.

Compact Binocular Adaptive Optics Phoropter

A binocular vision apparatus allows a patient to view objects through the apparatus with polychromatic light and monochromatic aberration correction, such that the chromatic aberration of the eye can be combined with the monochromatic aberration correction, so as to provide a more accurate determination of vision quality. The binocular vision apparatus provides left and right viewing optics that can substantially maintain the line of sight of each eye, such that objects can be viewed in a room with 3D depth perception corresponding to the distance of the object from the patient. As both near and far objects can be viewed with binocular aberration correction, the patient can alternate binocular viewing between near and far vision with chromatic aberration so as to evaluate a proposed treatment such as a presbyopia correction.

InactiveUS20170170268A1Reduce distanceSmall channel lengthTransistorSolid-state devicesMOSFETNanowire
Nanowire metal-oxide semiconductor (MOS) Field-Effect Transistors (FETs) (MOSFETs) employing a nanowire channel structure having rounded nanowire structures is disclosed. To reduce the distance between adjacent nanowire structures to reduce parasitic capacitance while providing sufficient gate control of the channel, the nanowire channel structure employs rounded nanowire structures. For example, the rounded nanowire structures provide for a decreased height from a center area of the rounded nanowire structures to end areas of the rounded nanowire structures. Gate material is disposed around rounded ends of the rounded nanowire structures to extend into a portion of separation areas between adjacent nanowire structures. The gate material extends in the separation areas between adjacent nanowire structures sufficient to create a fringing field to the channel where gate material is not adjacently disposed, to provide strong gate control of the channel even though gate material does not completely surround the rounded nanowire structures.

Compliant touch sensor

A sensor that detects contact using compression of a compliant material sandwiched between an electromagnetic signal transmitter and a corresponding signal receiver. Potential applications include inexpensive, robust collision sensors integrated into mobile robot bumpers, and sensors on robot grippers to detect grasping of an object. Deformation of the compliant material in response to contact forces changes the distance between the transmitter and the receiver, affecting the electromagnetic field between them. Changes in this electromagnetic field provide information on the location and magnitude of the contact forces. A transmitter and receiver may form opposing surfaces of a capacitor; the measured capacitance changes as the distance between transmitter and receiver changes. Alternatively, the strength of a received signal may be monitored to detect changing distance between transmitter and receiver. Shielding and signal filtering may be used to mitigate the effects of electromagnetic noise.
