Honey pots are used to attract computer attacks to a virtual operating system that is a virtual instantiation of a typical deployed operational system. Honey nets are a collection of these virtual systems assembled to create a virtual network. The subject system uses a forward deployed honey net combined with a parallel monitoring system collecting data into and from the honey net, leveraging the controlled environment to identify malicious behavior and new attacks. This honey net/monitoring pair is placed ahead of the real deployed operational network and the data it uncovers is used to reconfigure network protective devices in real time to prevent zero-day based attacks from entering the real network. The forward network protection system analyzes the data gathered by the honey pots and generates signatures and new rules for protection that are coupled to both advanced perimeter network security devices and to the real network itself so that these devices can be reconfigured with threat data and new rules to prevent infected packets from entering the real network and from propagating to other machines. Note the subject system applies to both zero-day exploit-based worms and also manual attacks conducted by an individual who is leveraging novel attack methods.

An integrated switch matrix for reconfiguring subelements of a mosaic sensor array to form elements. The configuration of the switch matrix is fully programmable. The switch matrix includes access switches that connect subelements to bus lines and matrix switches that connect subelements to subelements. Each subelement has a unit switch cell comprising at least one access switch, at least one matrix switch, a respective memory element for storing the future state of each switch, and a respective control circuit for each switch. The access and matrix switches are of a type having the ability to memorize control data representing the current switch state of the switch, which control data includes a data bit input to turn-on/off circuits incorporated in the control circuit. A system for communication between a plurality of functional elements in a cell arrangement and a higher-level unit is described. The system may include, for example, a configuration memory arranged between the functional elements and the higher-level unit; and a control unit configured to move at least one position pointer to a configuration memory location in response to at least one event reported by a functional element. At run time, a configuration word in the configuration memory pointed to by at least one of the position pointers is transferred to the functional element in order to perform reconfiguration without the configuration word being managed by a central logic.

A plasma treatment system (10) and related methods for rapidly treating a workpiece (56) with ions from a plasma having an ion density that is reproducibly uniform and symmetrical. The processing chamber (12) of the plasma treatment system (10) includes a chamber (14) lid having a symmetrical array of apertures (192) and further includes a vacuum distribution baffle (180), which are both configured to uniformly disperse a process gas adjacent the surface of the workpiece (56). The uniform dispersion of process gas and a symmetrical placement of the workpiece within the chamber (12) contribute to providing a uniformly dense plasma of ions adjacent the workpiece (56). A treatment system control (304) automates the operation of the system and controls the flow of process gas, evacuation of the chamber, and the application of the plasma excitation power to minimize the length of a treatment cycle and to optimize the uniformity of the plasma treatment.

A method for reconfiguring a packet-switched communication network using a network protocol for installing a logic topology of the network formed as a spanning tree is disclosed. The method includes detecting failure of a direct link to a root bridge of the spanning tree by a first bridge; detecting the failure of a direct link to the root bridge by a second bridge; transmitting a first configuration frame generated by the first bridge to other bridges; receiving the first configuration frame by a third bridge and transmitting a second configuration frame, generated by the third bridge, to the other bridges; detecting the first or second configuration frame by the second bridge and transmitting the third configuration frame generated by the second bridge to the other bridges; receiving the third configuration frame by the other bridges of the network and triggering a reconfiguration of the network with detection of a new spanning tree by the network protocol.

A system to control a dynamic system, comprising actuators, sensors, a control module and a plurality of observers to monitor the state of the actuators is disclosed. Certain embodiments of the invention comprise a global failure detection and identification module, a baseline controller, and a retrofit controller. Methods to control the dynamic system are disclosed. Some of the methods utilize a second-order mathematical model of the dynamics of the actuators. In some embodiments, this mathematical model is parameterized by a loss-of-effectiveness (LOE) parameter and a lock-in-place (LIP) parameter. The method may further comprise the step of detecting disturbance conditions and structural damage conditions.
